13 yrs old dd doesn't think Vegas is for kids!

As stated, Vegas is not for kids. There are a few diversions that will interest them, but not enough to fill an entire vacation. Most kids you do see look bored. If you do take someone underage - do not plan on gambling.

True story:

I was playing poker at TI and there was a kid (about 13) hanging around one of the walkways. Every once in awhile he would hang over the railling to watch the poker action. When he did this the poker staff would instruct him to move away as he was not allowed to get that close to the room even though he had not entered the room itself.

Eventually after a few warnings one of the managers went out to talk to him. She reminded him that he had to stay so many feet away. She then asked the kid where his mon or dad was. The kid then points out his dad sitting at one of the tables in the room.

If you want to go to Vegas you will have a better time if you leave your daughter at home.

Been to Vegas many times. In past years they did try to appeal to families to bring in revenue. Recently they have gone back to "What happens in Vegas stays in Vegas"! I have seen kids drug through casinos at 2 in the morning. The roaming xxx billboards and constant open attempts at solicitation is insane. It really is no place for children. It is an adult playground and no amount of themepark rides are not going to cover up the very much adult themeing of Las Vegas.

You can make Las Vegas a family vacation or an adult vacation, but trying to merge the two doesn't work very well.
For families however, hours at the incredible swimming pools, the rollercoaster, the thrill rides at Stratosphere, the funpark at Circus Circus, the Midway games at Circus Circus, more pool time, family buffets, a hike up in Red Rock Canyon, a drive to Lake Mead for a boat ride, or even the spectacular day trip (2.5hour drive) to ZION NATIONAL PARK. There's also a great Natural History Museum and the fun Lied Childrens Discovery Museum for older toddlers. Then, every kid's favorite....still more pool time!!!

Every time we went there is no pool time past 6PM. I noticed this at Sahara, Imperial Palace and Mandalay Bay. I think they want you out of the pool and out gambling in the evening. Next week Im going to Excalibure and Ill venture to guess their pools close at 6 too. Ill let you know.

I gotta go along with the crowd here and say I wouldn't take kids to Vegas. To me that defeats the purpose of going .. I don't want to go and not gamble and have grown up fun.

I agree also that even though there are activities for them.. there are lots more places with just as many activities and not the other mess that goes along with it. Porn slappers, drunks, etc

Wait and take a trip with your DH when you can leave the kiddies at home ;) . That will give you an excuse to take two vacations.. one to Vegas and another one for a family vacation.

I agree that Vegas is not a kid friendly destination. Heck, I am 45 and I feel I am not grown up enough for the atmosphere.
We did take my DD7 for a "day" trip for Circus de soliel..but we were there for a total of 8 hours. I felt I needed to give the whole family a delousing and a course of penicillin when we got back home!!!
DD7 was pretty horrified by even the crowd at the airport. Wanted to know what made people so angry that they talked like that!! (Lots of drunks with loud bad language in the waiting area!). Ugh.

Have to agree with "Vegas isnt for kids brigade". My DS is now 15 and to be honest, this is our second trip, we really only use Vegas as a base to fly into, stay in a nice hotel on the strip, have a day lounging by the pool, and then off to other pastures, theres so much to see within a few hours drive away.

I personally dont like vegas(although some of the shopping is great), and knowing what we experienced last time, I wont be walking down the strip, were visiting a restaurant we like which is off strip, but will be driving ourselves, and I wont be going out of my way to visit much else.
It nice to see the strip on an evening, but thats doable from a hotel window!

Sorry this isnt what you want to hear.

Jules
