That sounds really cool ---now exactly how do we go about booking that group rasul?????? :rotfl2:

So that I have time to obtain good ones---how does the ornament exchange go---one per cabin or per person? Do kids get in on things or just us Winos or is that whinos.

Wine and group Rasul! You sound like my kinda gal! :rotfl2:

I am excited to hear about so many divers on this thread. I am trying to find time to get certified this spring or summer so that I can dive on the cruise. I have made a few shallow dives before, but never certified. I am just having a hard time finding the weekends to give to the training. Our Little Dribblers basketball league begins Feb 18 and runs thru the spring. I coach, referee, and serve as Girls League V.P. so my Saturdays are busy. I tried to get certified last year with an instructor that works from his home, but he was not very reliable, and it did not work out. So this year I will be going with a local dive shop.

For all you scuba folks, I have some questions....

DH was looking into some of the equipment he is going to need. He needs a 2XL buoyancy compensating vest and the store here is listing it at $600!! Is that normal??

What about wetsuits? He is looking at about $1400 for total for the equipment and that doesn't include a tank and he already has mask and fins. Help! That really eats into the budget for what we had to spend for vacations.....
Hello there! gaRry suggested I poke my head in here and talk about scuba equipment. Bummer...... :rotfl2:

Scuba is an "equipment intensive sport". You don't have to buy everything to participate, but having your own regulator, wetsuit and maybe a dive computer will help out. It will cost about what you have already mentioned to get some decent gear.

I don't know how much experience DH has underwater or what his plans are for the future. However, owning your own equipment can and will add a layer of confidence underwater due to the fact that you know how it works, you know that it has been serviced and you are comfortable in it. Also owning gear will make it easier to dive more often and that is a good thing. Experience is required to make a better diver.

You're in Indiana and that will mean that he will be diving some colder water as well as trips to warmer locations. I would suggest that he get equipment that will work in both situations, if that's what he wants to do. For travel and warmer waters I like the lighter weight gear if possible. 3mm full wetsuit will work for all of the spots cruises go to usually.

As far as the BC (buoyancy compensator) I dive and would recommend a backplate and wings. These are infinitely adjustable and are extremely streamline in the water. Plus, the backplate can take a few pounds off the weight belt, and that's a good thing. They also make the divers horizontal trim easier to achieve. Check out Covci for a nice combo at $470 or Deep Sea Supply for $499 These are talked about as Tech gear, but are very nice for recreational divers too. My 14yo daughter dives one and LOVES it!!

As far as regulators go. Scuba Pro makes terrific equipment as does Apeks, Atomic and Zeagle. I would definitely recommend a balanced regulator system as these breath very nicely at all depths and tank pressures. Stay away from the titanium regs, they cost more and don't breath any different than a standard model (just weight a little less).

Dive computers are very helpful because they will track the divers profile underwater and track the nitrogen loading, depth, dive time and no decompression limit time remaining. If he goes that route, get one that will do Nitrox too.

However, if I were to choose what to leave behind it would be the BC. Take mask, fins, regulator and dive computer. He can always rent a BC that will work.

Hope that helped some, if you need more PM me. Be happy to help.

Now back to the standard fluff!!

The group rasul was Lyndas idea. I was following her lead. :rotfl:

Santa is going to have to think small for presents this year. Things that easily fit into luggage. I have 2 out of 3 believers so they must not be seen.

Anybody else ridden Expedition Everest at AK? It was awesome!!!!A must ride. Worth the wait.

Me too! My DD still believes. But we have already told her that we aren't doing a lot of gifts this year because of the cruise. I have picked up some cute Disney pens to tuck in stockings for everyone (I am going to hang stockings in the room on those 3M Command hooks to hold gifts) and I found a beautiful pair of earrings for her that I have tucked away too. Now to find something small and cool for Santa to leave for her. And to find something small but nice for DH too!

Hey Garry, thanks!! Hopefully I can talk some sense into DH but I don't know, Just have to wait and see, I guess.

When it gets warmer he could meet us in BOWLING GREEN OH at the quarry and we could get in some time. Or a weekend trip down to sunny warm fl. even a 3 day trip. I use a 3 bedroom house so no hotel rates. scubadiver might be off then and show us some good diving areas, Ft lauderdale has great shore diving from what I've heared. Also me and ds could us our AP. If hes got one or just get him one :teeth: :confused3 :lmao:
Kevin is very good with his diving I myself will follow his advise just DON'T start a SHORT conversation with him on diving NO SUCH THING :teeth:

all our dive regs, are scuba pro love there warrenty.

Don't forget the "ship to the ship" option...You could ship your wrapped packages to the ship any time before the cruise and they'll be awaiting you when you get there... early Santa surprises!

Lynda, do they still let you do that? I thought I had read somewhere that they had stopped doing that.

We are going easy on presents this year anyway. Between the cruise, going to Hawaii next month and now DH wanting to get scuba gear we won't have much left to buy presents!!! If we could only sell that rental unit we own! So just a few small things that can also be brought home, though I am sure I will also find an item or two in the shops on the boat and in the ports.

Wow, this is going to be a super cool trip! Since this is our first cruise and new to the thread thing. I may have a lot of questions. We would love to participate. Just keep that in mind. Also, if anyone needs any help planning or organizing, let me know. We have a santa believer too! DS would be so excited if Santa stopped by.

fabulusk, welcome welcome!!!

We are a fun group here. I have been on three previous DCL cruises but this will be our longest one (I have done two 3 day cruises and a 7 day). I am really excited about this one as we have never travelled with a group before. I don't think we have planned much yet as it is still almost 11 months away but we will definitely be looking at stuff as we get closer!

And if you have questions, please feel free to ask away. How many of you are in your party? Any kids??

HAY ALL

looks like I might get to the list much faster than thought.
I will see how the nexted 2 months goes and if not alot of improving then they will work me into the list.

Not sure if all this is good news or not.

Have a good evening all

Garry, that's cool.

DH (Dave) says Ohio and Florida sound good, too bad he won't have room to carry his gear and travel stuff on his motorcycle! :moped:

That information came from another board when I, strangely enough, let the members there bully me. What happened is I offered the shipping information to the board and one of the other contributors said he'd have his wife check with DCL...Well, I thought, this should be interesting. Sure enough, the next day the contributor offered the information that his wife had called DCL and the CM she spoke to had said it couldn't be done. I decided to drop it and bite my tongue. However, as we all know, DCL is not involved in the warehouse that handles delivery to the ship. I posted this sad tale on one of the DIS meets boards and things grew from there. It is true that DCL does not accept shipments to the ship...It is the warehouse, IDS that does. So, ship away. If someone posts that DCL does not handle shipped items just smile and nod your head wisely...They're probably from that other board and wouldn't know helpful information if it dropped on their head...

i am making a little "fun page" for the website. i am going to make a diagram of the places you might find ______ <--fill in blank] on the ship. What I need you all to do is PM or email me with the top 3 places we might find you on the ship. I already have Willie and Lampy at every place serving beer. :rotfl2: :lmao:
