12/09/06 Geeks.... Lost, but not forgotten

Because of everything that was going on in our lives, we were probably very ill prepared for this cruise vs the others we have been on. But, you know what, how much planning do you really have to do to sit by the pool and watch kids swim? The FE gifts did drive me a bit crazy, but I let most of the rest of it slide.

I know it is hard for you Lisa, but your family will have a great time no matter how much you plan. Take it easy, just get the essentials in place, and chill. Not sure what airport you are flying into, but I did not need a reservation for Super Shuttle when I went to LA. I just went to the booth, bought a ticket, and got on the next bus. This was at SNA - John Wayne.

You said it!!! I am a planning nut....but if some things slide...you will still have a great time!!!!

The only thing I would worry about would be those passports. I hope they come soon for you!

That Universal tour sounds really cool . . .

My brother is improving. He still cannot walk, but has taken a few steps on parallel bars. His big accomplishment this week was getting himself in and out of bed to his wheelchair. He seems totally OK except for his legs (and the surgery issues), and we have not even talked about the cancer lately.

It is absolutely dumbfounding what effect 3 months in a hospital bed and major surgery does to your body.

I am glad he is improving. I hope he continues to improve and gets stronger every day.

That is good to hear. :) Well, tonight has been busy but successful. :) I have booked Super Shuttle from LAX to our hotel, got a minivan for $58 at Avis to use in FL after the cruise :cool1:, booked a hotel in FL near Sea World and emailed about the last excursion I know I want to book.

Yes, the Universal tour is Todd's idea. Most of the people for the cruise are coming in Friday or Saturday and will be hitting DL Saturday. That's what we want to avoid. The tour is great for us because I doubt we will be going back to CA, and probably not Universal, for a very long time. I had to just not think about the cost and consider how much better a visit we will have with a personal guide and VIP access for everything, even after the tour is over with. We are doing one day each of CAA and DL then an open day for DTD, the pool and just relaxing. Who am I kidding? I will be doing laundry. I really want to avoid the dryer derby onboard. :scared:

That sounds awesome Lisa!!!!

Lisa, I don't know the experiences of others on the WB, but I was able to do laundry twice with only a short wait one of those times for a washer to open up. I did one load the first time and 2 the second (which is the time I had to wait for one of the washers). We were just down the hall from the laundry room so that helped. When I would walk by I would "check it out" and the mornings when there was no line I just jogged (too old to run! :rotfl: ) back to the room and grabbed the laundry. I started the laundry around 8 or so I believe.

We sent out only what we absolutely had to have. No way was I going near that laundry room with all the stories I heard. I figured it was good use of the OBC we had, and less stress for me or Amy.

I am thinking that we will send the dinner clothes to be ironed only the first night so they will be ready for the rest of the cruise. I am going to pack enough clothes so that we shouldn't NEED to do laundry for daytime and I will wash the swimsuits in the sink or tub as we go along. The only thing that concerns me are the guys' khaki pants. They aren't much to wash so if Mike doesn't feel like running laundry when he gets up around 5, I will just send them out. Of course, I might just get a couple extra pairs of pants for DS...would about break even on laundry costs...if we have enough room in the suitcases. :)

We read in reports that some people found their clothes in the trash can when they came back to check on them and they were not even dry yet. :( That is just RUDE! I was glad to find out that you can put in money for 2 dryer cycles at one time so that it doesn't stop. ;)

That isn't RUDE....that is something several levels more severe than RUDE....I think calling someone who does that RUDE is being way too nice!!!!!! I am seriously appalled! :sad2:

I thought it was bad when people took stuff out that was still wet....but put it in the trash....OMG!!!!

Lisa, that really was not my experience on deck 6. People waited until the washers and dryers finished, then another 5 min or so before moving the laundry onto the folding table. I am one that believes that leaving your clothes in very busy machines after your time runs out is much ruder than moving them to the table. And, yep, I'll move your clothes out of the dryer even if they are not dry if you don't put enough money in to dry them and if you don't come back within a few min of the dryer stopping. But, really, my experience was that folks were very patient and everyone waited their turn. And I did walk past the deck 6 laundry several times a day. Sometimes there was a line up and sometimes there were empty machines just calling for quarters.

Brack,
Howdy! Our nephew just sent us a bunch of Disneyland Paris pins. He was there and thought of us. How cool, both the pins and to be thought of! :lovestruc

Cool! :thumbsup2 I still have some extra DLP pins that I need to trade xometime.

I would take the laundry out of the dryer if the person did not come back....but I would put it on the table...the trash can....that still just floors me!!!!!

I used the laundry room several times on our last trip....Jake was sick....I never had a problem...but my room was close and I was there when my loads finished.

Hey all,
Lisa, your trip sounds like it will be so exciting! Enjoy!
John, thanks for the update on your brother.
Hannah and I were watching America's Got Talent (I know, bad TV, I know) and a ventriloquist was on, and I recognized him, couldn't place why for a few seconds before realizing it was Michael Harrison from the cruise (and I'm sure you frequent cruisers have seen his act more than once!) Just a little DIS Geek moment for me!
