Tonight is Sunday School Teachers and Officers Meeting at my church. I decided to run for the president of the SS. I am very nervous. The woman who has been our president for the past few years has seriously dropped the ball lately. I have been doing a lot of praying and have decided to try and get elected. One of my good friends is running for the VP. We will be partners. I really don't want to anger this woman...but I don't think I can stand another 2 years with her "running the show." I don't really feel like geting into it all...but I think tonight will be the first she realizes that someone is running against her.

Brandi,

If you win, they will probably think you are the best president they ever had. One of the things that I hate, hate, hate about being on the school board is running for office. I know some people who take great pleasure in that challenge, but not me. While I hate losing at anything, I do not enjoy the self-promotion you have to do to run for office.

Our school board is split on a lot of issues, and before this one person came on the board, we would rotate the presidency to give everyone an opportunity. Not with this person!

One of the hardest things I had to do was deny him that opportunity and serve two years in a row. I have now been President three out of the last five years.

I finally had an honest conversation with this person, and told him he needs to be President next year, and I will put my faith in the fact that he will now do a good job after several years on the board. Then he does something like telling me about his ideas for a new dress code - yup, the earring person!

I told them I will keep running until Sophia is out of school - then it is someone else's turn. I think sometimes I needed to have my head examined!

BTW - and FYI - school board in Ohio does not make you rich! You make about $1,000 for the year, and every year I donate my entire net salary to school organizations. I have heard that in Florida they make as much as teachers!

Sorry to ramble - good luck Brandi, and you will do great!

RECIPE

Sorry.....I am all out of bear!!! :rotfl2:

:woohoo: The new Starbucks just down from the house (and right on the way to work :woohoo: ) opened up today. Of course DW, the dog and I had to go visit and welcome them!

The bad thing is we started WW today so I will have to scale back some. I might even have to drink my lattes made with :furious: "skim milk". Oh well, at least they are open before Christmas and EggNog Latte time. :cloud9:

Sorry I am fresh out of pot and bear. None of the good recipes will work for me! :lmao:

For those of you who are gymboree fans, it is gymbucks redemption time in 3 days and the new stuff out today is really cute!!!!

We have a crock pot and a slow cooker. It isn't used much but I do like what is made in it. What is the oddest thing you have cooked in one of these ..... not counting "bear".

Question for John1 since he is in the grocery business: What evil person decided that next to the 100 calorie snacks and low-cal desserts was the best place to put the mint chocolate covered Oreos?

You guys have NO idea how hard it was for me to not only not pick up the Oreos but just to get myself two aisles away quickly.

I have heard that the food companies actually pay for the shelf space at the stores. The more desirable shelves at eye level are more than the ones on the bottom. :confused3 They plot what is going to be the best positioning to get you to buy their product.

Becka - pm me your email and I will send you a word doc I have that has TONS of WW crockpot recipes. They are awesome. I got it off a WW message board I belonged to a few years ago.

Still have never been to a Starbucks. But coffee is for grown ups remember? DH loves coffee though, maybe he's the only grown up here.

Becka,

I will let you in on a little grocery secret . . .

The reason we are in business is to sell more and more groceries!

There is suggestive selling going on all over the place in a grocery store (or any store for that matter). If there isn't, they are not a good gorcer, and they will go out of business.

What I really hate (and our stores do it too) is putting stuff that is tempting to kids within their reach and in their face throughout the store. Our local Bob Evans restaurant put in a kids toy section by the cash register - it used to be one of my favorite (and cheapest) places to go out to eat with the whole family - now I cannot get out the door without another stuffed something or other that Sophia has decided to start collecting!

And, it is also true that the healthy stuff is more expensive.

Thanks V - PM sent. :)

I have also never been to a Starbucks. The only one here is inside B&N and I am not about to get out of the car, walk into the mall to B&N for a cup of coffee when I don't even like coffee.

Oh I know about the suggestive selling but you would think with the healthier stuff costing more they would not tempt those of us trying to lose weight and be healthier with chocolate covered OREOS! :faint: I guess they figure those of us who are buying 100 calorie snacks probably love Oreos - that is why we now need the 100 calorie snacks! I am telling you they are EVIL!!!!! :furious:
