John1,
DrHug said to tell you he had lunch at a Greek restaurant in Portland yesterday and enjoyed it alot. He was working right in the heart of Portland the last 2 days at a county health clinic and our friend works only 5 blocks from there so they had lunch together both days. The friend has worked downtown for years and knows all the good restaurants in the area. He had a Greek salad, a spinich thing wrapped in phyllo (didn't recall the name of it) and a gyro. He said it was very tasty. They did not have any Uzo though since they both had to go back to work! ;) This restaurant has an upstairs section where you can pay a dollar and throw your plate. :lmao: Do you know what that tradition is about? Silly question, of course you know, can you explain it? He is back at that location next Thursday and they are going to a Mexican place that day. He enjoyed getting to visit and actually getting a lunch!

Spanokopita . . .

Anyway, I looked for the answer to your question online Angie (I had an idea, but wanted to see what they said). Lots of different answers . . .

I think my gut idea was the most plausible. You party, you drink, you get raucous, you start breaking plates! A mythology has grown up around the custom, and according to sources online it is now banned in Greece because too many people were getting hurt.

The restaurant that used to do it here locally had fake "plates" that were unglazed cheap plaster plates they would use for this. I have to admit, the one time I did it, it was fun, and seemed like the "right" thing to do!

The one time I broke plates it was fun and felt good!!!

DS's first communion went very well this morning. He has been so happy all day. :) I will get the pictures downloaded tomorrow. It is my turn to be sick. My throat burns and I have been coughing a lot. :( DH got me some dayquil & nightquil so I am about to take some & driff off to dream land. That stuff seems to get rid of some of the worse cold/throat problems.

Yeah, I still have this knot on my head . . .:scared:

(And I am the one who is Greek!)

Greek or not we know who the boss is!

(Annette told me I could say that)

Happy Mother's day to all of you Mom's out there.

Is anything about your Mom perfect?

1. Her teeth are perfect, but she bought them from the dentist.
2. Her casserole recipes. But we hate them.
3. Just her children

What would it take to make your Mom perfect?

1. On the inside she's already perfect. Outside, I think some kind of
plastic surgery.
2. Diet. You know, her hair. I'd dye-it, maybe blue.

If you could change one thing about your Mom, what would it be?

1. She has this weird thing about me keeping my room clean. I'd get rid
of that.
2. I'd make my Mom smarter. Then she would know it was my sister who
did it and not me.

THANKS CARLA!. I forgot to let you all know that for some reason this reminds me the the old sailing ships, pirates and such. A weird association betwen these underwear, brass monkeys, and balls. The brass monkey was the plate on the deck that held the stack of cannon balls, which were iron. When it got too cold the brass would shrink more than the iron and the balls would fall off of the brass monkey. Thus, these underwear. :lmao: :lmao: :lmao: :lmao: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

I think so :thumbsup2

It is really nice to see you posting again my friend. Remember all work and no play makes you dull!

Whoa! No wonder I can't cut it!. LOL. Good to 'see' everyone again. Thanks Brack! I do need to get out and take some pictures this month. It is my favorite Oregon month. It is soooo beautiful this time of year.

You can post the video to YouTube or Photobucket then link it to a post.

I must admit I haven't bought mine yet but I really do plan on it. I was sort of waiting to make sure that we were not moved again this year. We are staying here in Baltimore for at least one more year.

Okay.y later today to get the video posted. I have to install some software so I can take it off of the camera, then try the U-tube thing. Hmmmmmm ??///*** Uh oh! Angie just hovered over my shoulder asking if I took my CE tests yet, :lmao: I just hate homework. I have to finish 6 more hours of CE before next week, so I don't have to worry about it while we're at Disneyland. My license expires on 6/30/07, but the state changed the due date for payment to 5/31 so they have time to process payments and get the new certificates out.  :upsidedow
