I just said NO!!!

The secretary called and someone who I called every day last week to come pick up their order showed up. I told her to have the cafeteria manager get the box out of the freezer for her. Another person called to find out when someone would be there so she can pick it up. She will have to call me to set up a time when it is convenient for me. :thumbsup2
A BREAKTHROUGH!! WAY TO GO, LISA! :cheer2: :cheer2:

I called DCL the other day to make sure we were credited for our Repo cruise. There was a reduction in port charges I believe. Got $224 knocked off. Rebooking onboard can save us another $1250, tips included another $761.50 (plus free us up to tip better if the service is excellent!). Plus we can get about $900 in ship board credit between DCL and DU. All in all it will cost less than 2 - 7 night cruises for us! :woohoo:

A girl can still have her dream...
Fantastic! :Pinkbounc :wizard:

We loved our GS leader years. Of course, it was a family affair with DrHug being my co-leader, along with another mom so there were 3 of us. We learned very early on not to count on ALL the parents to participate, but we did develop a core group of parents that helped us with every event. Having a man involved really encouraged other dads to join in also. Anyway, the note said how much she loved us and appreciated all we did for her and her sister and that we were family to them. DrHug said :confused3 "we didn't do anything more for them than the other girls", and I told him that getting a smile and a "we are SO glad to see you" each week obviously meant alot to them. :grouphug: We still have the note and I still cry when I read it. Those two girls whose lives we touched make all the frustration with unhelpful parents worth it. You just never know who is watching you, needing you, and what a difference you can make. So, all of that to say....You can and will enjoy being a leader of whatever group your kids get involved in if you set your expectations for the kids very high and for the parents very low. :thumbsup2
I've been the GS leader for DD's troop for 9 years. there are four girls left in the troop including DD. I cannot imagine not being involved in it. I have been the service unit manager for 40 troops, the cookie service unit manager for 40 troops for 8 years, the day camp business manager for 5 years, and the day camp manager for 1 year. I don't expect help from my parents. I have had up to 18 girls in the troop. At first most of the parents considered GS a type of babysitting. That changed when they saw how much the girls did. when the girls were younger, I had several moms that would always be willing to help and several that I was glad never offered. the girls that were in my troop previously still converse with me at school events--that's more than most of them do with their moms & dads. It has been one of the most fulfilling volunteer jobs I have ever done. BTW--DD has sold over 500 boxes of cookies for all 9 years. We have a cookie shop in a very rough part of town. DH is a registered scout and the two of us go sell cookies their with DD & DDBF. there are no troops in the area and the people really are glad to see us. some have come back year after year just to see how the girls have grown.

I know what you mean Becka. If I wasn't such a perfectionist I would be perfect. Flaws taste just as good, and it all goes to the same place.

LOL. When I took my parenting class they also emphasized this. Kids want it to be about them - being perfect is about ourselves. The kids want to feel the love and will never really remember that mom did it perfectly only that you all laughed together while you were doing it. Luckily our kids love us even with all our imperfections. It's really us who find it hard to overlook the flaws but we don't want our kids to take on this pressure of perfection. It kind of squashes the joy.

but that Elmo cake looked awful good.

DH and I were in the addition today trying to figure out lighting. I used to want to design and build my own house, but there is no way we would ever finish! I have learned though that after I give DH an opinion on something, if his first reaction is negative, to just give him time to think about it and he eventually sees my point! :thumbsup2

it must be a male gene at birth. My hubby does the same thing. By then I have moved on though. LOL.

wow that's some commitment!!! the girls are lucky to have you. But I think that if your child is participating that you should be expected to contribute on some level - time or money.

With DH? It's not that he will stop bringing in things for himself. He really doesn't have much anyway. It is that he finally realised the girls don't NEED so much. He used to get them a lot of "just because" things, but now he wants to limit gifts to 2 each on major holidays. :rotfl:

with the twins - we just never had the time to really unload stuff before now.
We did get rid of the baby stuff. I always give the clothes away - but somehow the gigantic pile of toy stuff just never really got shoveled out.

It's going now. That's why the dumps are so full - we just buy too much of this plastic stuff that no one else really wants either. The trick is just to keep it from coming in in the first place.

I wish grandma was an option but she is always bugging hubby about a few stray things he still has in her attic that she doesn't even see. LOL.

OMG!!!

This is breaking news...this mom is from our school....she lived (as of 6 months ago) right next door to me.

A parent verbally and physically attacked opposing team members at a football championship game for 10-and 11-year-olds, according to police.

Police in Lower Paxton Township arrested Marianne Jackson after she allegedly kicked, pushed and swore at players and coaching staff of the opposing team at Landis Field Sunday afternoon.

According to witnesses, Jackson became mad when her son was injured as the result of a tackle.

The woman's son suffered a concussion as a result of the hit.

An off-duty police officer at the game attempted to defuse the situation by escorting Jackson off the field.

But according to police, Jackson shoved and kicked the officer as well as others in attendance as she left the field.

Beautiful bride!

Did she ever find anything out?? :confused3
She said they don't know what caused the cat to have that condition. She said that at this point they probably won't ever know.

Let's see . . .

If I buy them now, then DW will say I only bought them because I listen to my internet friends more than I listen to her . . .

If I don't buy them, she will say, why don't you listen when everyone tells you this is what you should do - you don't listen to anyone.

This is defined as a "can't win" situation. :confused3
(that should be in parenteses)
For those of you without spouses on the Boards - you are much smarter than me!

:sad2:

My husband would agree with you again!!! He said he hates when I put him in those situations.

Morning!

Anyone interested in a Disney Store Captain Jack Sparrow costume, size XXL, new with tags? DH decided he wasn't going to do the costume thing.... I don't think I can return it...
That is a bummer. Sorry to hear that he won't be wearing the costume. My DH has the exact same costume in that size.

We piled all the PS toys into a box and sent them to Grandmas. I told DD she could visit them when she went over there. You see, Santa is on the way and Birthday is on the way, and we will need room at home for new toys.

I did let her choose which ones went. One for GM and two for home.

Good thing Grandma just moved into a new house with a big empty playroom! Lucky me!
Lucky lucky lucky Grandma!!!! :rotfl:
