Hi all,
We were up and out early today; DD13 is taking an entrance exam for a private high school... not sure yet if she's going to switch out of public school, but you have to take the tests and apply if you're going to have a choice to make. DD8 has soccer at 11, so a neighbor will have to pick up the test-taker (her daughter is at the same test; I drove them both there). Sometime today laundry must get to the top of the list (soccer uniform for sure; there is a game tomorrow too!)

Oh, and sometime I may have to see how Notre Dame will crush my Heels on the football field. It will not be pretty.

I must admit. I was a GS for 6 years. I honestly dread being a GS leader. I already told my DH that if our Ds wants to be a boyscout...that is all father/son!!!! I will have enough dealing with the GS ladies!!!!

We loved our GS leader years. Of course, it was a family affair with DrHug being my co-leader, along with another mom so there were 3 of us. We learned very early on not to count on ALL the parents to participate, but we did develop a core group of parents that helped us with every event. Having a man involved really encouraged other dads to join in also. One set of parents, both mom and dad, did not camp, but were there to help set up and take down camp every single campout - we did 2 major campouts each year. Another set of parents, both mom and dad went to all the weekend events (campouts, snow trip to a mountain cabin each year, Los Angeles on the train, Disneyland, etc) but were not able to do weekday/night events. We had a couple of SAHMs who helped on weekday things. Many parents did nothing (one year we had 28 girls in our troup, the least was 14), but we accepted that this is just the way it is dealing with that many people. One of our most treasured things is a note written to us by one girl whose step-mom and dad had no time for her and her sister and did not even buy them uniforms (I found free ones and took the girls myself to pick the uniforms upsince stepmom and dad did not have time to do that- and money was NOT an issue with this family) or pay their 50 cents per week dues :sad2: . Anyway Cheri wrote this note when step-mom and dad were shipping the girls back to AZ because they had enough (they came and went a couple of times in our 6 years GSing when step-dad in AZ did not want them around anymore :sad2: ). Anyway, the note said how much she loved us and appreciated all we did for her and her sister and that we were family to them. DrHug said :confused3 "we didn't do anything more for them than the other girls", and I told him that getting a smile and a "we are SO glad to see you" each week obviously meant alot to them. :grouphug: We still have the note and I still cry when I read it. Those two girls whose lives we touched make all the frustration with unhelpful parents worth it. You just never know who is watching you, needing you, and what a difference you can make. So, all of that to say....You can and will enjoy being a leader of whatever group your kids get involved in if you set your expectations for the kids very high and for the parents very low. :thumbsup2

Did anyone here experience a change in your time for your spa treatment? I was just reading on the main board that people have experienced a cut (rasul for example) however the price was not decreased. I did not book the rasul but I'll take a look at what I booked to see whether my time changed.

If they did cut the time but did not decrease the price I will cancel. There should have at least been notification of the change.
It seems to me that the times listed originally were wrong. The times given now are what they have been for the last 7 years. 50 min for well being massage, 50 min for couples massage. We have not done the Rasul, but I think the length of time is the same as it has always been. :confused3

Anyway, Every Saturday Morning my DH makes breakfast for me and the kids....I lost my chef for the morning! Boo Hoo.
Well, that is just WRONG!! ;) :lmao: :rotfl2:

Is it just me or is anyone else severely disappointed in Becka? Between that beautiful Minnie pumpkin and this great bulletin board idea - I have lost all faith in the notion of an anti-crafter. Is there really a Santa Clause?

I think she may have been holding out on us! ;) :lmao:

I cleaned out the coat closet yesterday and this morning. Wow. I cannot believe how much stuff we had STUFFED in there. 18 years worth of coats that no longer fit. Junk on the floor we haven't seen in years! :sad2: Packrats, we are packrats! So now I have a huge pile of coats to give away, a huge bag of trash and a closet we can actually hang a coat in. :)

We will be heading out to the baby shower in a couple of hours. It is a 2 hour drive each way, :drive: on a good day, and it is pouring rain today :umbrella: so we need to allow a little extra time. :hourglass

Didn't you know Becka that most men CAN't listen to a woman? They are physically and mentally unable to comprehend when someone else is right. ;)

Nice Carolnie,

Right after I helped you get to that pirate post, I get to read this!

Oh well, guess I'll just go and crawl back to my safehouse.

I booked a massage for DH and it was cut to 50 minutes. I'm just wondering if they cut out the time they try selling you products maybe? :confused3 Because I'd assumed that extra time was for it. The massage was always listed as 50 minutes but the time they blocked for him was something like 65 minutes.

Good morning, John1. I really did not understand Caroline's post you just quoted because DrHug is always right. :confused3 :lmao: :lmao: (and I have to admit that he usually is.)

They had always been 50 min before. I think it was an error on the times that has been corrected.

Thinking about this spa time thing, you do need to allow more than 50 min for a 50 min treatment. You get there 5-10 min early to get the paperwork filled out (medical info they need etc), then the treatment, then they give you water to drink and you need to allow time to get dressed, another 5-10 min. You can't jump right up, dress quickly and run out after a massage. So, 10 min plus 50 min plus 5 min. :confused3 Becka, I need some math done here please. Don't give me the details though, just the answer. :teeth:

I didn't mean I dread it in the way you are taking it. I had 2 very involved parents. My mom and dad were also my GS leaders with 2 other women. We had a really big troop. Anyway, I was always jealous of my brothers boy scout troop. They did REALLY cool stuff. They camped out ever month. They did a week long trip to Canada on 2 occasions (fishing and stuff). They did week long scout camps. Maybe as a young kid I wanted to be around boys instead of girls :confused3 :rotfl: . Anyway, I just never personally really liked GS...I think that is where the dread comes in. It has nothing to do with volunteering or work...it is more of a I didn't really like it and I don't want to think about doing it again. KWIM?

Have fun at the shower! Is it a women's or a couples shower? I have been to a few that were for men and women...they are always fun.

Tomorrow morning is Sunday School Election of Officers!!!! I am nervous. Strange feeling!!!! I may need some pixie dust!!!
