Depending on what beach you want, St. Maartin has a nice small beach area by the pier at the shopping area too. That is easy to do on your own. It is small but nice sandy beach, chairs and umbrellas for rent, cheap!! Drinks and restrooms available, food too. Just take the water taxi at the end of the pier, on the left. costs $5 for all day round trips to the shopping area.
when you get off the water taxi walk a few feet until you meet up with the sidwalk that runs along the beach. You can go right or left just 25 feet to a nice beach area and someone will approach you about chairs and such.
shopping is right behind you if one of you wants to zip out for a quick shopping event.
also the ride is only 5 or 6 minutes, so it is easy to go back to the ship for lunch and then back to the beach if you want. You have a great view of the ship from the beach. It is NOT crowded there either so nice for little kids to toddle around without getting run over by people . It is just a thought unless you have a specicific beach in mind. Theyhave several that are beautiful, this isnt spectacualr but it is nice, close and EASY to do with kids. Cheap too.
Our grandkids loved it!!!

I've read about this beach before I think.
Maybe we could do the close-by beach for St. Maarten and then do a paid-for tour excursion for St. Thomas...
Which island has the trolley that goes up to the nice view? Is that St. Maarten? It sounds like you could just walk to that according to what someone else said.
I am leaning towards bringing our youngest DS(18 mos.) but DH now isn't so sure as his Mom has offered to watch him. But right now I'm going under the assumption he'll be along. I want to decide tho before booking day so I can book him some Flounders time in conjunction with a Palo res. for us.
What day do you recommend for Palo?
