11/7: Thursday

Animal Kingdom today. Got in just after opening and headed straight for safari. Got FP and wandered through the shops to kill time. The shop in Africa is one of the few anywhere on Disney property that actually has merchandise not available everywhere else. Safari was good. Saw tons of animals including the cheetahs and lion. Then over to Dinoland for our first look at the new section. ICH!! The whole carnival section is incredibly tacky! This is exactly what Walt Disney wanted to avoid when he built Disneyland. Since AK opened, some guests have complained that there wasn't enough to do and they weren't getting their money's worth from the price of admission. So in response to that, Disney added outrageously priced carnival games. How exactly does that make the ticket price a better value? Oh yeah, they threw in another Dumbo ride. That helps a lot.

Now I can't deny that Primeval Whirl is great fun. For those of you not familiar with it, it is a wild mouse type roller coaster with a twist. The car you ride in actually spins 360 degrees as the coaster travels along the track.

My daughter dug in Dinoland for a while, then we headed out of the park. If I saw one more french fry I was going to scream (my wife and I eat pretty healthy diets back home and the park fare was getting to me). We had lunch at Shoney's - soup and salad bar. Then we went back to the hotel to rest and shower for dinner at Boma.

Animal Kingdom Lodge is a simply gorgeous hotel. And looking out to the animals is a truly unique experience. No matter where you are staying, get over there and check the place out on your next visit. As for dinner, Boma was wonderful. A fine variety of well prepared dishes and a sassy waitress who was a lot of fun. After dinner, went upstairs to our friends' room since they were staying there. Room is nice, similar to other upper end Disney hotels I've seen. But this one has a balcony that overlooks the savannah. Must be neat to wake up in the morning, look out the window and see a giraffe or a zebra.

I guess that does it for Thursday. Day 7 coming shortly.
