I'm sure the price increase coming has been talked about, but it appears that if you don't buy annual passes, doing Disney for a day for the average family of 4 is going to be challenging.

Or you can wait until next year when they put out a Florida pass for three days at a park. I think this year it was about $140.00 or less. Also in available for a four day. If I have someone here who is interested in visiting WDW but not AP this is what I suggest for them.

But yeah if you just want to go for a day that's pricey. Add in food and parking.

I'm pretty sure that the price of the one day, one park pass is set to actively discourage anyone from actually buying it, forcing them instead to look for more economical options that put you in the parks for more than one day. It's not that Disney is trying to shut out the locals. Instead, they are trying to condition the locals to visit more often. Sort of the opposite goal. They just have a very "arm twisting" way of doing that.

Seriously, though? The normal local can afford an AP for the family? I would think that some people really do just want to take their family for the once a year (if that) event. I was talking to someone here who has children who are around 10 or so, and I asked him if they had APs for their family. He told me that they wanted to keep Disneyland 'special' and not just another thing to do. I also know people who really cannot afford the $500+ for an annual pass/person for their family, and save for that rare visit to go the one time. Growing up, my family would be in that same category.

I feel for that group of families who struggle to make that trip out to the parks.

Not always. Some people just want to the take their children or grandchildren for a day or two. Which is why I suggest to the Floridian pass they put out around January to my fellow Tallasseans.

Not every local who wants to go to disney wants an AP. A Disney AP ain't cheap even with a Floridian discount. That can be quite an investment and not everyone is willing or able to do that. Mary Jo said it better than I could. But I agree with her.

What they are shutting out are spur-of-the-moment day-trippers that aren't likely to return any time soon, not locals in general.

What they could _potentially_ do for the "grandparent" crowd, is offer special "add-on" tickets, with a limited number of park admissions that can be used by _anyone_, when accompanied by a person with a FL Resident Annual pass...but that's just me brainstorming...

As said, the locals have 3 or 4 day passes available for < $150. And that promotion happens every year for the past 2 or 3 years. What the price does is absolutely crowd control. If you want to go in for one day during the busy season, you're going to pay big money. But there's plenty of tickets and options out there to play much closer to half of that, regardless of AP status.

Not totally confirmed yet, but that was the rumor along with the price increase. They removed all mention of No Expiration options from all the signage a while ago.

Still not seeing increased buzz I'd expect if they are going up tomorrow though.

Disney may not be cheap for locals but it sure isn't cheap for those traveling either. There is a concert I want to see in my area in 2 months, tickets to a 2 hour concert are $75. Quality entertainment isn't cheap these days, but $100 for an entire day isn't horrible when you compare to other events.

Nope it's not. Not a cheap vacay for anybody. But a Disney day can cost more than that add the food and the parking. I went to see the Eagles once and the tickets were more than that much and I ended up in the rafters. I don't do that many concerts.
They charged an insane amount of money to go to concerts in South Florida so I just didn't go.

And that's going to be the choice of quite a few people whether local or not.

My brother is a cast member (sales) and gave us the heads up this weekend re: the end of non expiring tickets. It just stinks.

I'm FAR from being a local, however, the price rise is what? $5 per ticket on a MK ticket?
So for a family of 4, we are talking $20 for the day. Now as a lot of you have said, there are options for longer stays and the idea is basically to encourage longer stays, but you're saying that for the spur of the moment, or "want to keep it special" guests, its an expensive day... what's $20 for a "special" day out with the family?
I know there has to be a limit eventually, but people are up in arms about $5 per ticket for one day. that's a cup of coffee here is Australia, so for a family, just don't have that cup of daily coffee for a week and you're set!!

That's definitely going to affect how often I go. The only way it's vaguely "affordable" is by buying 10-day non-expiring tickets, and using them year after year until they're used up (over multiple trips). Between this and the whole plan-your-whole-trip-9-months-in-advance culture they're promoting, I don't see a whole lot of trips in my near future. Especially once the couple of 10-day passes I now have are used up.

Just a word of warning this ticket has blockout dates. I also saw this note if you don't want the block out dates here's our NON-Florida resident tickets. It's not that Disney doesn't want locals it's just they only want them during certain times of the year. Which I have really mixed feelings about.

WDW is lucky in that we have more ticket options pass wise than at Disneyland. Disneyland doesn't get many breaks on the cost.

No, it's just that they only want to give you discounts during certain times of the year, which is totally normal. You can pay for the full price MYW tickets like everyone else and go when you want. And you _still_ have a discounted annual pass with NO restrictions.
