My first trip report.
This summer we always wanted to plan a big family vacation because this was my 7th year at my job. At 7 years, they reward you with a sabbatical of 8 weeks off with full pay. I added 2 weeks of vacation to make my sabbatical a total of 10 weeks off!
So around March, DW and I start looking for a special vacation. WDW was always in the back of our mind, but wanted to keep looking.
We saw a great special for a 7 night Hawaiian cruise with air for $500. We felt like making it a mommy-daddy 2nd honeymoon cruise and just buying our twins Disneyland APs for the summer since they would be spending the summer in SoCal with family. We live in Oregon, but are from LA.
Sounded good. Cruise for the parents and our kids can go to DL all summer with their cousins who have APs. Weve never been on a cruise. We started pricing all the excursions, alcohol, and other OOP add-ons. We were looking at 2 grand easy. So we scratched the cruise idea. Our twins are 10 and pretty soon they will be too old and cool to hang with their parents at WDW. Then, we remembered the WDW commercials advertising $1600 for a family of 4. So we made the decision, WE WILL GO TO DISNEY WORLD!
Heres the family (DL vets, WDW first-timers):
Me! 29 years-old, celebrating my sabbatical. I love the movie Aladdin. Back in high school I used to draw Disney artwork (I love to draw) for the all the hotties and I started signing them, Meladdin. Hence my username.
DW- I love this woman. She is the backbone of this family. She doesnt like cutesy nicknames. So lets leave it at DW for now until I think of a nickname she will find cutesy and cheesey.
Then there are my DTs (Disney twins). 10 years old:
DS10- He is more of a computer/video game freak. And is glued to Virtual Magic Kingdom. So well call him VMK.
DS10- He is more athletic and into sports. I mean he watches ESPN almost as much as I do! Since he loves sports and we are originally from SoCal, Ill give him a nickname of a sports team Disney used to own and just won the Stanley cup. Ill call him Mighty Duck.
So, in March we decided to plan a weeklong trip to WDW in August. Next, when, where, what kind of tickets, DDP, and how do you plan a 10 week vacation? And Am I crazy enough to get TGM, UG, Mini-UG, Passporter, and ridemax? Crazy like a fox.
