10-Oct-2009 - Eastern Magic St. Croix

The "I'm too excited to sleep" situation. It has started. DD couldnt' go to sleep last night and I'm having a hard time sleeping. :dance3::cool1::rotfl2::cheer2:

Ugh I am never gonna get everything done by Saturday. Probably I will be throwing stuff in the suitcases Friday night if I get any further behind it will be Saturday morning.

DCL called this a.m. and asked what night we wanted Palo dinner (we are platinum so get a freebie). Was worried we wouldn't get a ressie cause we booked last minute and everything online is full. They gave us pick of any night and time so anyone who still doesn't have Palo and needs to get it on board bet you will not have any trouble.

We picked Sunday evening. Anyone else there then?

Still no St. Croix plans for us but we would also like to know if you can taxi to any of the resorts there or if we have to do the Disney excursion thing (not my first choice).

Well, finished most of our packing yesterday. Our pirate "gear" took up one whole suitcase! But with us attending MNSSHP, we'll get good use out of it this year.

I decided not to pack our FE as I never got on the list for that part of the planning. I'm just excited to be going at all considering the monumental medical "emergencies" over the last 6 weeks!

Since our aunt had to cancel, and this trip was to show her The Magic (and her first cruise), we've decided not to rush to the port on Saturday. We're staying at AKL and want to enjoy the resort. So we've arranged for the van service to pick us up at 11 a.m. Hey, maybe this time when we get onboard we'll be able to dump our stuff in our stateroom BEFORE we go to lunch :thumbsup2

Let's hope this development stays away. We went though OMAR last year and we ended up in Nassau instead of St Thomas

Hey everyone! Glad to see I am not the only one that feels stressed about getting everything together before we leave. I have to have it all done by Thursday night as we fly out early (6:00am) Friday. I will probably be up until 2:00am still packing and worried if I have everything. I also still need to come up with Halloween costumes for the kids. It is great they are celebrating on the ship but just adds to the preparation.

That is good to hear about Palo. We are hoping to get Brunch reservations. Right now I have reservations on Thursday night for my husband and I as our 14 year anniversary is on Oct. 21 so I thought we would celebrate. I may cancel them though because I do not want to miss the show that night and I do not want to go to the earlier show because the kids will be in dinner at that time. Palo reservations are for 8:30pm.

I do have some other questions I hope someone can help me with. First, what does everyone plan to wear for semi-formal night (for the adults and kids)? I have been on other cruises but it was always 2 formal nights. Second, what are the picture sizes from Shutters?

Thanks,

Meredith

Meredith: for this cruise we decided not to bring the formal formal stuff. I packed a black skirt with a dressy sparkly blouse for formal, and a little less dressy blouse for semi. Casual nights I am wearing capris or linen slacks with tropical blouses.

I checked on weather.com and the forecast for St. Thomas is rain every day next week! St. Croix is showing sunny for Tuesday.

i plan to wear a suit no tie on semi formal night

off to work i go...again....day 11 in a row...i think?

No FE for us for the first time ever and the kids are gonna miss it but we booked so late. And in the same boat with all the medical stuff, we truly are very lucky to be getting on the ship so unless I can recycle some old magnets we will be going plain this trip :)

AKL is our favorite resort and we would probably be doing the same thing, wouldn't want to miss a minute of it, the whole environment there is so relaxing :)

I have to be packed by Thursday too, as we leave early Friday. Actually, DH has to be packed on Wednesday as he's out Thursday evening. Wednesday is my big packing/cleaning/finish things up day.

Formal & semi formal night - I am wearing knee length black and white dresses in an easy to pack fabric. My girls will be more dressed up than I am as they each have a taffeta dress to wear (with summer sandals, no dressy shoes). DH says he is packing his suit, however we no longer have a garment bag, so I do not know how he plans to complete this feat.

Thanks for the info on Palo, we have no reservations and would like to have a dinner or brunch there.

Thanks also for the rain info on St. Thomas, silly me I had assumed that it would be sunny and we'd do a beach day. I haven't read anything about what to do on St. Thomas if the weather is poor.

Congrats on the anniversary. Oh good you just reminded me about Palo brunch, it's our favorite and I had forgotten we need try and get that one once onboard :)

I am taking two cocktail dresses, one for formal, one for semi. Dh doing suit and my son always wears a tux he loves it (little crazy I know). My girls wear a variety of dresses from prom, homecoming dressy to princess to sundress types for formal/semi formal. You will see EVERYTHING. Dh used to always rent a tux, was much easier than bringing the suit, but we see less and less tuxes on each cruise. Dh and I will be wearing jeans with pirate Ts on pirate night because I am not packing pirate stuff for me and him this time. Need room for the kids Halloween costumes and I am not taking any more stuff than I have to.

Shutters pix are 6 x 8, 8 x 10, post card sized and you can get a family package reprint with 5 x 7s and wallets too. Just about anything really but the standards are 6 x 8 and 8 x 10. Plenty of packages and options and plenty of opportunities to get photos taken. If you don't like the picture they will crop it for you, reprint it and add or remove a border if you don't like it.

Make sure bring sweater or something for everyone as it can be quite cold in the Walt Disney Theater at night during shows.

Sorry for just getting back to you...but yes....Mercedes and Porsche are both my daughters. Thanks for asking. Looking forward to getting to know y'all.

Just finishing up the FE today. I am the late one getting on board. Can anyone tell me if Mercedes and Porsche are both girls? My kids are fixing some goody bags and the boys and girls are different. Just wanted to make sure I had it right. THANKS!

Look for our girls too......they have "I'm on a Boat" t-shirts as well.

so as i sit on the couch and eat my extremely late dinner, (nearly midnight here) since i just got off work after my ninth day straihgt i feel good knowing that we are SIX DAYS AWAY(at least it will be six by the time anyone reads this hehe)

oh oh oh....

guess the DW and DS were out shopping today and they found DS and "Im on a boat" t-shirt to wear on the first day as well!!!!!!! so look for the two goofballs running around wearing the im on a boat shirts!!!!!

Thanks for the replies about semi-formal night. My dress is not as dressy for that night but my daughter's dress is more like a formal dress. Also, my son wants to wear a coat and tie.

We are looking forward to getting a nice picture the night of formal. I bought a frame that is matted and has a 5X7 opening so I am glad to hear we can get reprints on some of them.

They sell nice frames on board too and most arent very expensive. When we have gotten the family pack or whatever they call it that had wallets and 4x6 or 5x7 often they have made us buy it in the 8x10 first. This really varies on who is there and who you talk to. One thing we have found lacking on the cruise is consistency in Shutters as to what you can and cannot get so if you don't get the answer you want, go ask someone else later. Don't wait til the last night to get your pictures, it can be quite busy. When you get 8x10s you can also buy the folio thing (fancy looking picture holder) that it goes in but I forgot how much these are.

My husband is wearing a sport coat both nights. I am wearing a black cocktail dress on semi-formal and I totally went out of the box with formal. Kind of a floor length tropical satin dress thingy. It sounds tacky but actually looks nice!:rotfl: My girls LOVE to dress up and have long dresses for formal night as well.

I have no I'm on the boat t-shirts but we will look for the kids at the Goofy pool.

Has anyone ever done the Bon Voyage packages through Disney? I would not normally do something like this but this is the kids first cruise and thought it might be fun to have something special for them in the cabin. I was thinking either the decorations w/cake or the chocolate covered strawberries, petit fours and sparkling cider package. Or, possibly both. If you did the the one with the strawberries and petit fours, how many do you get with an order?

Thanks,

Meredith

I made my own homemade gift bag that I am gonna sneak into the room before my son gets there, but just reading your post is SOOOO putting me in the mood for chocolate covered strawberries!! :lovestruc
