10/4/08-Buccaneers Take the West! Cruiser List in Post #1

Hello all,

Please say a little prayer for my community and me. It's been a stressful week. One of my former fourth graders (15 now) accidentally overdosed on Oxycontin Saturday. He was such a precious child when I knew him. It has really been hard to imagine that his life ended this way. The child that took the meds from his grandfather (with cancer) and gave them to the other boys has been charged with manslaughter (which is sad on its own).

This comes two weeks after another student (14) that I taught one class a day to died under similar circumstances. I found out tonight at church that another student (senior) killed himself over his girlfriend last night.

To say that this is too much for the students at this high school to take in is an understatement. It's just too much tragedy for anyone at any age.

I hate to dump all of this on you guys, but we just need your prayers.

How sad - our high school went through a similar string of incidents two years ago and it was tough for a long time. I will keep you all in my prayers.

Just enjoying the first day of my three day weekend. I'm still not quite used to having a four day work week, but I am enjoying it.

Just doing some thinking about doing a spreadsheet next week with all our info - cruiser info, excursions, Palo ressies, fish extenders, etc. What does everyone think of this idea?

Jan! I love this idea! As a newbie, seeing what other people have planned would be a great way to learn about my fellow cruisers. Also would you mind explaining a little bit about the fish-extender thing? I have been searching the boards to try to figure it out, but had little success.

Hope you don't mind, Jan but since we have so many newbies, I thought I'd post a picture of my FE.

What people do is drop token gifts into the FE which is called "Fish Extender" because it hangs from the fish that Disney uses to put mail or welcome notes. Everyone has a fish outside of their door.

It's a lot of fun to "come home" and find a gift in your FE!

Just found out from my son that an 18 YO friend of his took a muscle relaxant, drew a bath, and drown herself. So sad....

While I was in my photobucket, I thought I would download the magnetic Mickey heads I made for our doors when we cruise.

This is just some of them and I hung a Home Depot paint chip to show the difference in size.

Thanks for explaing the fish extender! So will there be a list of rooms so we know who to gift? Are there guidelines (maybe something that will be drawn up as the trip gets closer?) or is the gifting willy-nilly?

My son is upset and can't understand why something bad has to happen to sweet people. They really aren't sure whether is was intentinal (sp?) or accidental. They feel as if she meant to do it but may never know.

How heartbreaking for her family!


About the FE,
What we did on the 11 night Southern last year was one person was in charge of keeping a list and we would each PM her as to what we were bringing and she would assign us a delivery day so that everything wasn't delivered all on one day.

We got a diverse list of things: playing cards
candy bars
post cards from our UK visitors
pirate pencils
small tooth paste
So, as you see, cute token gifts, nothing elaborate but certainly fun.

It was also a lot of fun to come in each evening and a gfit was waiting for us.

I don't mind being the list keeper if everyone wants me too.

Jan, maybe we could put each person's delivery day on the spreadsheet if you decide to make one, what do you think?

That is a very generous offer to keep the list. I am SO EXCITED about this! Clearly I need to start making a FE!

As a side note, has anyone talked about making a graphic to represent our trip? I started futzing around with graphics for magnets and I might have something worth offering up to the group.
