10/4/08-Buccaneers Take the West! Cruiser List in Post #1

Thank you everyone for your prayers. It was very difficult to go to the funeral home. I just hope that other students will wake up and see that perscription drugs aren't something you play around with.

Another student from the school (senior) committed suicide this week. Apparently he was the same student who had made a gun threat a couple of months ago and caused a lock-down. It is just so sad. I live in a small, rural community. It's just unfathomable that all this is happening.

On a much brighter note, it is so exciting to come here and think of much happier days! I can barely sew on a button, but my kids would absolutely love the FE. If someone decides to get crafty and make them I will be glad to buy one.

I love the idea of an activities list. I don't want to spend a great deal on excursions, but I love seeing what everyone else is doing so that we can get ideas.

I just think every Saturday morning that we are one Saturday closer to being back on our beautiful ship!!

Have a great day everyone!
Ginger

Hi Everyone! So good to get back here and post with my cruise buddies.

Washington DC was great. I got to do some things I've never done before...tour the White House, go into the Supreme Court building, visit the Holocaust Museum, tour of the capitol by one of our state representatives, and lots more.

Weather was perfect...windy, but the high temps ranged from 58 to almost 70. The day we left it started raining and the temps dropped, so we had good timing with that. The kids were complaining enough about all the walking they had to do, I can't imagine if we had added being wet and cold into the mix, lol.

Most of the kids did well. A few behavior problems, but nothing to big. I think I did more counselling in a week than I have in my entire life. I have never dealt with so many friend problems and boyfriend/girlfriend problems in my life. Everytime I heard, "Mrs. Powell, can I talk to you for a minute.." I put on my Dr. Phil hat. Actually, I guess it's a compliment that they come to me, especially since I'm not even their teacher anymore and some of them I didn't even teach last year because they were on the other team.

Ginger, I am so sorry for all the tragedies that your community has been through. I'm sure your town is in shock. I will certainly be praying for everyone involved. I haven't had anything like that happen to any of my former students, but I'm sure it's bound to happen at some point, and I don't know how I'll handle that. I'm sure you're like me and once you have someone in your class, they're always yours.

Well, I'm going to help a friend pack up to move, so I guess I'll go for now.

Love the idea of a spreadsheet and thanks to all who are willing to head up organizing these things.

Lori P. :)

Hi All. Hope everyone is having a good & safe weekend. Hope none of you are snow bound.

Lori, glad you had a good trip. Sounds like fun. Did you feel exhausted when you got back? I spent a week on a school trip and felt like I needed to sleep the whole weekend when I got back. I found it quite draining looking after other peoples kids (oh & 1 of mine), even though I knew them pretty well.

We are officially into Autumn now. Temperatures during the day are in the 70s but last night it dropped to 44. Lots of colds going around because of the change. Mornings are now cold but the days are still hot. Our drought is still going. We have had some rain but not enough.

The kids had school swimming sports on Friday and on Tuesday they are both going to the inter school swimming. It will be Blake's first time so he is really excited. Anything to have a day off school :rotfl: .

I think the spreadsheet is a good idea. We probably won't be doing any excursions unless they're cheap. Spent enough getting over there and really should save some money to give to Disney at the parks :rotfl2: .

DH and I have decided to cancel our October cruise to save some money and find a better time to go. So, you'll have to take us off the list. Hope everyone has a great time though!

I am so sorry you will not be joining us. I hope that yoiu find a time that will work for you. Lois

Tania, funny that you should say that. I was just thinking how sleepy and tired I feel. The hardest part was Sunday night when we left at 9 pm and drove all night until we reached Williamsburg VA at 7 the next morning.

I think I slept about 1 1/2 to 2 hours the whole night. That was the longest night. I perked up once the sun rose and we started walking around, but I slept SOOOO good Monday night.

I don't think we'll be doing too many excursions. For six people it can get a little pricy. The boys do want to do something with snorkeling so we may do that on Castaway Cay. I may change my mind once I start seeing what you guys are doing and book something else.

Gotta go do some laundry,
Lori P. :)

I have not posted much because we may be canceling also.:sad1:
I am having second thoughts about leaving our 19 & 17 year olds home alone. My father-in-law lived with us and he would have been here for the kids, but he passed away last September.
I can't take them with us since my daughter will be in her senior year of high school. And my son is training for the fire department. I don't know what to do.

Do you have a neighbor who can check in on them? At 19 and 17 they should be fine. They both will be on their own very soon. This might be a good trial for adulthood. It is only one week. However, each parent lets go in their own way and their own time. I hope you will still travel with us but if you don't here is to hoping you find just that right vacation for your family.

I was messing around with making magnets for our stateroom and came up with two graphic ideas that could represent our group. Being new, I can't yet post images (at least I don't think I can!) so I posted them at flickr.com and I posted the links below. I would appreciate honest feedback. I don't want to hoist something on the group that doesn't fit. I promise I can handle the truth! ;)

Option 1 - Buccaneers Take the West!

Option 2 - The Buccaneers be takin the West!

What do you think?

Hey Lauren! I really like the first one. Thank you so much for working on these. I think they would be awesome! :thumbsup2

Ginger

Lori, Welcome home.

Mr. & Mrs. Smith, sorry you won't be joining us.

Lauren, thanks for working on the graphics. I like the first one as well.:thumbsup2

Kerri,

If you are going to be worried, then trust your heart and wait to go another time.

Lori,

I've always wanted to out DC. I have a couple of best girl friends that the three of us try to plan a trip each summer that the girls can just act silly and have fun. My friends are teachers so we travel June - August. Next year, we're going to travel the historic Route 66. That should be fun!

Now, to clue my DH in on the plans!

Denise and Ginger: Again, my sympathy goes out to both of you regarding these tragic deaths.

Ok - I will start working on the spreadsheet this week. I'll email the spreadsheet to everyone so you can give me info, changes, and corrections. Just send me a PM with your email address.

Fish extenders - there is a thread on the DCL main board. I need help! I am clueless, lack creativity, etc. I may just put a DCL plastic bag on my FE!!!!!

Have a great weekend everyone. My DH Dave just went outside and said some of our daffodils are up! Yeah -- maybe spring is coming soon.

Jan

Lauren,

I vote for option one as well.

Looks as if our group is already smaller. Austin, our DS 21, just told me that he isn't going to be able to make it. I may see if my best friend and travel buddy, Rita would want to go in his place.

Rita travels with me and Steve and she, her sister Tammy and I take girl trips guite often, too. With her being single, she doesn't feel comfortable traveling by herself. In fact, she's going with us when we fly to Vegas next month to celebrate Steve's 50th birthday.

This is something Steve's always wanted to do, so he's excited about it.

Sorry to all those who are having to cancel their cruise. I did the same thing last year. I got so excited and then ended up having to cancel. It's a tough decision, but one that's necessary sometimes.

I like the first magnet idea too! Good job!

Hope everyone's having a great Sunday. Time for lunch, so I'm going to run,
Lori P. :)

Hello Fellow Disney-ians!
:cloud9:
My family and I will be joiningyou for our 2nd cruise on the Magic. Our first one was Oct 2004. It wil be myself, DH, DD(14) and DD(11). I was on he boards with our last cruise and it was great. The girls met up with kids with their same interest and ages and thay had a ball!

Last time we went we did not go to Cozumel due to hurricane damage so I can't help with shore trips there. We went to Costa Maya instead and went horsebakc riding, it was really cool! In Key West we just hung out then took the "Tales of Margaritaville" tour. It's for Jimmy Buffet fans and was a lot f fun, just be sure to wear walking shoes. :woohoo: In Cayman we did stingray city with Red Sail Sports. It was a great time and not too crowded. We just had rough waters that day, the stingray are awesome! :goodvibes At Castaway Cay we snorkled then DH and I went for a couples massage in a cabana at Castaway Cay. It was verrrrryyyyyy relaxing!:upsidedow

Can't wait to meet everyone!

Welcome to you & your family.

I noticed that you have found the kids forum. I will get Sam to check it after school today or tomorrow. I did try & get her her own username but had some problems with it.

Tania

Thanks to everyone for there support with us cancelling our cruise and all. I hope you all have a great trip without us. Knowing Disney, that shouldn't be a problem.

Hey JanDave! I don't think I ever confirmed for sure that my parents and sister's family are coming with us. They are:

Carol (DMom)
Curtis (DDad)
Jeanna (DSis)
David (DBIL)
Emily (DN - 5)
Natalie (DN - 1)

Thanks!
Ginger (206 days, but who's counting? )
