10/4/08-Buccaneers Take the West! Cruiser List in Post #1

Tania, my kids are funny. As soon as they get home from school, they run to the computer to see if anyone has posted. Sam did tell the boys she was going to her grandmother's. They think that it's funny that she's going to the beach in January. Nathan will be thrilled to have someone his age. He commented that noone wrote to him...you can tell he suffers from a serious middle child syndrome.

Lois, glad you got out of duty, but do you have to check in on a daily basis or are you released for good?

I'll talk to guys later!
Lori P. :)

I was released for good and shouldn't be called again for three years. Thanks for asking. It's getting late will write more later. Lois

Found us on page two again. We either need more cruisers or need to get a little more takative. Hope everyone is doing well. Happy day, Lois

Back on page two. Hope this means everyone is just having a wonderfully exciting weekend. Well that's enough for now. Lois

Don't I wish Lois!!! I'm trying to make myself go to bed. I have a HUGE project I am doing for a class to get my certification to teach gifted students. I'm sweating bullets! :headache:

It sure does help to see that little countdown going at the bottom of my computer screen! Come October this will be a distant memory.

Say a little prayer for my brother-in-law tomorrow (who will be on the cruise with us). We are heading to the funeral home for his last surviving grandparent. My mom's (who is also going to be cruising with us) aunt, to whom she was the major caregiver, was buried last Sunday. It's been a very strange week.

I hope that all of you have a MUCH better weekend!!

You have my prayers for the work you are doing for the certificate. I will also remember your brother in law. It is hard to lose family or anyone for that matter. I pray that your week begins to look up. Lois

Happy Sunday everyone! Ginger, how much longer will it take for you to get your certification? I feel for you, having to teach and work on school at the same time, not to mention throw being a parent in there.

I am going to go and pick out tile for my floor today if it kills me. I know what I want and I am just going to bite the bullet and buy it. Who knows, I may even pick out a paint color for the room.

This should be a fun experience, but it's turning into a drudgery for me. It really doesn't help that my DH and I are the world's worst procrastinators.

Oh well, I'm just grateful we can afford to do this, so I'll quit whining. One of my best friends step-sister is laying in a hospital with a collapsed lung, hooked up to all kinds of things, trying to breast pump for her 5 week premature baby who is still in NICU (who also has health issues), and recovering from a C-section. The day she went into labor, she and her DH found out that she lost her job and their house (doctors she was working for moved their practice to a different state and she was living in an apartment they provided for employees.)

I think that's a pretty big reality check for me.

Talk to you all later!
Lori P. :)

Prayers to all that requested and some for those that didn't as well. We all need to be thankful for what we have and remember how lucky we are.

Drew and I spent yesterday at Alma College - I got the prospective parents speel (or speal, or schpeel :confused3 ) while he was being interviewed for a leadership scholarship. We also had a chat with the soccer coach. I don't think he has totally made up his mind but with the $$'s he has already been given and all they have to offer, I think it is a good fit. Then again, I am not the one going so he needs to make that decision for himself. Funny how this one applied to more colleges than the first two put together (helps that #2 only applied one place). Time will tell - as will the $$ offers recieved from each one.

Our weather is a balmy 23 degrees - which is so much better than the sub-zero stuff we had most of the week. Just not necessary IMHO. I get to go to Spartanburg, SC two weeks from today for work - maybe it will be warm there. Also heading to Orlando for a conference in March but sad to say no visits to the mouse house planned (as yet anyway).

Well, enjoy your Sunday everyone. Ben is making ribs on the grill (takes forever in the winter) for dinner and they are already on - low and slow as the saying goes. I will try to post more often so we don't end up on page two and Lois won't have to rescue us quite as often.

Gail, not meaning to rub it in or anything, but it got to around 60 degrees here today. Beautiful day!

I read the funniest trip report today about the Glutton family. If you haven't read it, check it out. Very entertaining. :rotfl2:

I'm in snack mode. I think I'll go make some Muddy Buddies (or Puppy Chow or White Trash) if I have enough powdered sugar. That is one of my favorite snacks and probably the most fattening.

Lori P. :)

Well Lori, let's not add any salt to the rubbing :lmao: ! Supposed to rain today and tomorrow and then get back down in the teens by Wednesday with more snow. I would prefer just one season at a time but not looking that way for this week.

I LOVE puppy chow but I hear you about the calories - I am trying to be good, I really am but must be I need to try harder. I did ride the bike yesterday for a little over two miles but I need to do that daily and get up to 5 miles or so. Maybe I should figure out how far it is from here to PC and ride there.

Hello Fellow Cruisers!!

Lori, I should be finished the second week of summer break. This class is supposedly the hardest of the four though. I have a HUGE American Revolution unit (with cause and effect as the concept) that I have to have finished by Thursday. I hate when I get involved in something like this that I doubt everything I've ever done. I mean, I've been teaching for 14 years! I should be able to handle this. :lmao: I guess I'm too used to being the teacher instead of the student.

I'm just praying that it is worth it. There SHOULD be a gifted opening at my school next year. I should know by March or so if I get it. Prayers appreciated!

Off to get ready for tomorrow!
Ginger

Just checking in before I turn in. Hope you all had a good first couple of days of the week. Tomorrow is Wednesday! Halfway to the weekend people!

Say a little prayer for my little Faith. We will both be having some pretty significant dental work done next Tuesday. :scared1: I'm also pretty bummed that the dentist wants $1000 of my cruise money! :rotfl2:

Off to bed!

Ginger

Ginger - best of luck to you and Faith at the dentist next week. I am a HUGE chicken when it comes to going to the dentist but I have found the best one, once the shot goes in I feel nothing, even for root canals. Now getting them cleaned is another story.

Blizzarding here (yeah, I make words up if needed) and the wind chill is like 20 below zero. Really fun ride into work this morning.

Well, best get cracking.

Hey everyone I'm Nicole, we are also travelling on the Magic in October, sailing on my birthday in fact! We are super excited! There will be 9 of us travelling, FIL, MIL, Mom, Dad, DH, DD - 5, DS - 3, DS - 18mths. Can't wait to get to chat with you all!

Nicole

Welcome, Nicole!

Hope everyone is having a great week. We had strong winds and rain here yesterday. More rain is suppose to come tomorrow.

Just an update on my friend's mother: She is now at home. She still is in pain and lots of discomfort, but at home. It was the same type of cancer she had 5 years ago. They think they got all of it. They should know more in the next day or two. Thanks again for your prayers.

Gena

Welcome Nicole and Family!!! I've added you to post #1. You'll have to read our posts - we're planning a DIS meet or two, activities for kids, and fish extender thingies and gifts. Three weeks before this cruise, I am cruising on the Wonder with my two daughters and families -- 4 kids under the age of 5!

Gena: Hope your friend's mom is doing well. My prayers are with her.

Ginger: I'll be thinking of you and Faith next week. My dear goddaughter who has Down syndrome, Alyssa, went to the dentist today just for a cleaning. Her anxiety level was high, and to get her to lay back in the chair, she laid on top of her mom while she got her teeth cleaned. And, she had to go potty 3 times during the cleaning. But, my Lyssa is a trooper and thanked the hygenist and dentist as she was leaving.

I am heading to Kalamazoo tomorrow afternoon and staying 2 days. My DD and family are all sick and need my help. Since we're expecting 6+ inches of snow starting Thursday night, I will not return home until Saturday. It's been more than a blustery day here.

Take care all. Have a great weekend.

Jan

Welcome Welcome. Glad you have decided to join us. Lois

Thanks for all your warm welcomes! I'm very interested in the meetups you are talking about! This is not my first cruise but first with Disney, for all the rest in my party it will be their first voyage on a cruise ship so it should be interesting! I've been reading up on the tips forums and getting some super ideas especially for travelling with small kids and of course my minds already working on some door signs! I can't wait, one thing I'm regretting about the whole trip is telling my kids so early, I'm sure I'll be crazy by the time we set sail! They ask everyday if it's the day we go on the Disney cruise! LOL

:welcome: to you Nicole as well as to your family. We are happy to have you join us. :welcome: to the DIS as well - I feel this is the best place to play and talk Disney and in our case, DCL.

I have something in common with your children - I also ask daily if today is the day we leave for Disney so I don't think it is really age related. I am growing older but pledge to never grow-up.

Shall I share with everyone - it is way to early to be bragging but I am riding DH's bike to Florida (or I am going to try anyway). While I only have 2 days under my belt and lots to go, it will be good for me. I calculated the miles from our house to Orlando, divided it by the number of days until we sail and there you have it. I need to do 5-1/2 miles a day! I have yet to figure out what I will do when I travel but most hotels have work-out facilities. Wish me luck.
