10/4/08-Buccaneers Take the West! Cruiser List in Post #1

Gena,
I am also saying prayers for your friend's parents. I can't imagine having both of my parents be sick at the same time. Please let your friend know that her prayer circle extends all throughout the states.

On a lighter note, I went to Target last night and found some cute Mickey pencils that would be great for treats on our cruise. I also found some cheap $1 pirate hats for the boys to wear on Pirate Night.

Jan, I hope you enjoy your weekend. Make sure to stay warm! We actually got snow on Wed. night here in Chattanooga. My kids were SO excited. They were out in the yard playing at 8:30 at night. We were especially excited when they cancelled school for the next day.

Hey everyone! If you have kids who are interested in talking with other kids on our cruise, my oldest son started a meet thread for our Junior Buccaneers! It's listed under "10/4/08 Jr. Buccaneers" and is by Ben#1

He's so excited to talk to other young cruisers, so I hope your kids want to as well.

Lori P. :)

I just saw the new thread. My husband is helping my boys set up user names. They are excited about talking to other kid cruisers.

Thanks for your support for my friend. I am an only child and she is like my sister. Jayne's mother is more worried about her father than she is herself. I will definitely relay your messages to her.

We were suppose to have snow here today, but it missed us. It is very cold here tonight. We had a great day with basketball games. Both boys won and so did Auburn. This was the first game that DS 12 has won this year. I also ran into a parent of a former student and was able to catch up with how she is doing. She is not 23 and in college. It really makes me feel my age to think that kids I have taught are in college.

Hope everyone has a great night.

Hope everyone is doing well. I found us on page two and thought I would try to bump us up just a little. See everyone later got to find something to eat. Lois

Back on page two yet again. Everyone must be busy. I have to report for Jury duty tomorrow. Hope I don't get picked got too much to do at work. Lois

Lois, I'll keep my fingers crossed for you. I hope I don't get called again (First two times, I was a full time, stay ahome mom, and they let me off.) because I would be a horrible juror. I want to give everyone the benefit of the doubt. Unless I see someone with my very own eyes or they admit to it, I don't like to say they're guilty.

Alright, all you young sailors!!! My sons are discouraged and thinking they're the only kids on the ship, lol.

Have a great Tuesday everyone!
Lori P. :)

Good luck, Lois, on not being selected.

It has been a crazy day. Things were going great until this evening. I had the day off from school, went shopping, found some good bargains, and came home to make lasagna for dinner. I went and pre-heated my oven. Next thing I know, my oven is on fire from something that has overflowed in it. After throwing lots of flour on the fire, the smoke alarms going off, and the security company calling to see if things are okay, thankfully I got the fire out, with only lots of smoke in my house. Needless to say, I was a bundle of nerves when my DH got home. I've got most of the flour out of the oven, but I will not do anything else until I have someone come and check to make sure it is okay. We ended up going out to dinner. I feel very blessed that nothing further happened. Now, I have a lasagna in my refrigerator, ready to cook when I get my oven checked out and cleaned.

On an additional note, please remember my brother-in-law and his family in your prayers. His father passed away this afternoon. He had been sick with cancer, but no one ever is ready for this to happen. I've only seen my BIL cry once, and that was at our wedding almost 17 years ago.

Hope everyone has a peaceful night.

Gena

Wow Gena! What a day! I'm glad you were able to get the fire put out. That's a scary situation. Thanks for letting your son post under your name. My oldest has been checking the thread all day. He'll be so excited to see Patrick's post when he gets up in the morning.

I guess I'd better run. I have to have my lessons put on yourhomework.com by tomorrow morning. (For any teachers that haven't found this yet, it's a great resource)

Thanks, I will be sure to let everyone know how it goes when I get done. I really am hoping for tomorrow.

I don't think I would have thought to throw flour on an oven fire. Glad it was just the oven. Real scary. Lois

I am glad you were level headed and did the flour. I keep a liner in the bottom of my oven and went to pull it out the other day and it was stuck so instead of working on it I just shut the oven door - guess that will be my project for the evening. I had a fire once on an electric burner and once in a pan (that wasn't supposed to flame), lost my eyebrows and lashes but got the cover back on and the pan off the burner.

I said a prayer for your BIL and his family.

Good luck (or should we say bad luck) on the jury duty Lois.

Still cold here in Michigan - we got more snow but the worst is south of here as most of the schools seem to be closed. I think Drew was hoping for yet another snow day yesterday but no such luck. They have not had a full week since back from Christmas break with either 2 hour delays or full snow days - they best be careful or they will be tacking days on, it is after all only January.

Take care everyone and have a great day.

Hi everyone.

We've been really busy the last few days. Our 2nd car decided to stop working & the mechanic said it wasn't worth fixing  . So we had to go car shopping. We got to take one home for the weekend & try it out. On Monday we bought it. We have just had it alarmed & also our 1st car (which is now our 2nd one). Then we had a burst pipe under the house. Luckily no damage done there. My DH says we're now waiting for #3 problem!

The weather was great until Monday. We are getting the tail end of a tropical storm - lots of wind & a bit of rain. But it's still hot & humid.

Lori - I tried signing my kids up & we got a form to fax back. I tried it but the number doesn't seem to work. Did you have to do this? What number did you send the fax to?

Tania

Thanks for all the positive thoughts. They didn't have any trials so all of us were released by 10:30 AM. Yea!!!!!

Will write more later. Lois

Hello all! I haven't been able to read in a bit and just caught up on everything. I'm sorry to all who have had sickness, almost fires, etc. It has been a crazy few months it seems. We have had an endless parade of sickness and death in our community. I'm ready for spring!

We started our countdown because my daughter kept asking how many days we had left. :lmao: We took pics of the cruise and covered them with numbered Post-its. She takes one off each day.

I'm off to find the kids' thread. Maybe my son will post something. I really want him to connect.

Stay warm all you Northern Hemisphere people!!

Ginger

Wow! It is so hard to imagine all that snow. We did get out of school last Thursday since we had some snowfall Wed. night, but by morning everything in the valley had been rained away. The mountains around here still had some snow/ice, but it was nice to have a day off where I could run to the store if I needed to. We actually have 11 snow days built into our calendar, but we very seldom use them. I think in the last few years, we've used more flood days than snow days.

We only have 5 days built in but do a lot of 2 hour delays which are typically caused by fog. It is only the end of January and I think we only have 2 days left. Didn't get much more yesterday so we must be sitting at about a foot on the ground. Roads were fine this morning, just my drive and the mountain the plow leaves everyone that gets me caught up sometimes.

My county is jealous of the built in snow days. We were one of two (I think) counties in the area that had to go to school last Thursday. I think they will let the kids get by without making up one day, but the teachers have to make up any day missed. I would love a good two hour delay on occasion though! :rotfl2:

All this talk of cold and snow (and school) is really making me long for the Carribean. I'm sure I'm not alone!

I showed DS the kids' thread last night, but he didn't post. Maybe I can get him to do that this weekend. I loved reading the other kids' posts!

I'm off to work on a HUGE project that I'm doing to get my gifted certification. Say a prayer for me!

Well, I had a hair-brained idea yesterday and have booked another cabin for this cruise for my oldest and his DF (or whatever a fiancee would be). She just finished school and is job hunting but if they can secure the time off, they will be coming if for no other reason that to not listen to me harp on them. So Jan, if you could add Ben and Kristie to the list on the first post, their cabin is 6611 and while you are in an editing mode - David and I are in 6507.

Nothing much else is new here. Dark out and I am still at the office but the driveway is now plowed so I guess I can put my coat on and venture out. Have a good evening all!

Gail, glad your son is cruising with you. I think cruises are the ideal family vacations.

Ginger, good luck with your project. I want to get my masters at some point, but it'll have to be after the cruise, I guess. The boys are enjoying posting on their thread, especially Jake, my 10 year old. I'm not surprised though, he's quite a social butterfly (the male version, lol).

I know how you feel about not getting last Thursday off. I remember one small snowfall we had last year and they kept adding and adding to the cancelled school list. I told my husband that they should have just put one sentence on the screen.... "All schools systems EXCEPT Hamilton County are out of school tomorrow."

Well, I need to go. I want to be in bed by 11:00, and the hour is almost here. Talk to everyone later!

HEY! I forgot to ask, did anyone else read the post about passports not being required until 2009? That would save us around $600...hmmmm.

Lori P. :)

Just a quick post. We are off to the beach for a week. I need the break from all the spending we've done (new car, plumbing). I've also been to get the kids stationery for the start of the year. I figured now was better than when we get back with only a week to go before thay go back.

Lori - Sam is enjoying posting too, although I think she would like to have some girls to talk to as well. Jake seems really nice & she appreciates his posting even though he's a BOY :rotfl: . Let your boys know she's away if she doesn't post that info today. I will get my DS to start posting once we get back. He is the same age as Nathan.

Gotta go. Hope everyone has a great week next week.

Tania

Tania, my kids are funny. As soon as they get home from school, they run to the computer to see if anyone has posted. Sam did tell the boys she was going to her grandmother's. They think that it's funny that she's going to the beach in January. Nathan will be thrilled to have someone his age. He commented that noone wrote to him...you can tell he suffers from a serious middle child syndrome.

Lois, glad you got out of duty, but do you have to check in on a daily basis or are you released for good?

I'll talk to guys later!
