I'm actually a Civil War buff. In fact a few years ago we found out that my grandfather's great great uncle was the vice president of the confederacy, and that person's father was apart of the American revolution. So technically I can be apart of the Daughters of the Confederacy and the Daughters of the American Revolution, don't think I will though.

Woody is related to Grant on his mothers side. And my great great great? grandfather was a bugler for the south.

Wicked is a really interesting read. A little graphic at times. I hade to put it down and pick it up a few times.

Too cool! So Alexander Stephens is on your family tree? That's wicked - couldn't resist! ;)

On my father's side we were able to trace back to our arrival pre-Revolution, so I could join DAR, too, if I wanted. But I'm with you - I don't really have any desire to join.

Again ... on my dad's side we can include John Breckenridge (former VP of the US ... Kentucky senator ... Confederate General).

Jay's got several relatives who fought for the Union (that's what good Missouri Germans did) and one of them was captured at the Battle of Chickamauga and sent to Andersonville, where he later died. Once on a driving trip down to WDW we stopped at Andersonville to find his burial plot - what a terrible and depressing place.

I find most Civil War sites to be awe inspiring and beautiful despite the carnage that took place on them, but Andersonville ... :scared: Just an oppressive place no matter how you spin it.

Night Robin. :goodvibes

I'm probably not too far behind ... back to work tomorrow and I still need to wash the dishes before I hit the sack. Been on the computer too much today. ;)

Well it must be a night of headaches for both of us Andy. Devin just announced that he is thinking of quitting school and joining the Army. I have nothing against the military, but as a mother and the way the world is right now I'm freaking out a little, well a lot. In fact I am crying while posting this. OK Paige where are you, I need you to tell me it isn't as bad as I am thinking.

Oh, Becky, this is the first I read of this. I have read on though, and see that he has decided against it. I'm glad, since it seems that is what y'all want. I understand how you feel as a mother. I applaud him for his feelings of patriotism, but I say again, I understand how you feel as a mother. It is a rough life for our young enlisted folks. I'll say a prayer that y'all can have some peace, since I guess he may be fighting in a different type of war moving in with a girl--haha:rotfl: :rotfl:

  to y'all Becky.

Good frosty morning everybody. I was up at 7am this morning - the first thing I did was put on the radio to hear the list of school closures:rotfl: - he's back in school:banana:  - I know that sounds awful:rolleyes1 , but I dont care:rotfl2:

Its snowing here this morning and it was -8 overnight - still -4 now at 9.14am.

I'm meant to be going to a kiddie playgroup today... a friend of mine volunteers there, they need someone qualified to run it as the other lady is leaving and asked if I was interested. Its only two mornings a week, so I'm going to scrape myt car and head off in a minute to see what its like. It would be my first little job in 4 years! - only 7 hours a week - I think I could just about cope:lmao:

I'm definately re-painting...I let it dry - it's too blue:rolleyes: - I'm going for a real dark olive colour this time...I'll be moaning next that its too dark:rotfl2:

Karen it sounds like you are having oh so much fun! ;) I hate to paint. Woody hates it more so I get stuck with it..

I enjoy painting when it looks nice at the end:rolleyes:

I change my mind all the time Karen. I swear my living room is 3 inches smaller than it was when we bought it 7 years ago. :lmao:

:rotfl2:

anyone else get the feeling that our miss mouse is addicted to paint fumes.

Dont...sniff...know...sniff...what...sniff...you...mean...sniff;)

I'm tempted to see if she'll trade lives for a week or so and she can come paint my house and I will take care of Ellis.

Its a deal!

maybe i can get her to finish my parents ceiling. i started the project after they left for florida for the winter, but then i had that vertigo and havnt been back. they usually dont come home till early april so i've got a little time yet.
:rolleyes1 :rolleyes1
(maybe i should do a little less DISing and a little more time painting.):rolleyes1

I dont like ceilings - I get neck ache:sad2:

And I'll gladly trade her ironing for my painting projects. Sounds even steven to me. :rotfl:

:woohoo: Double deal!

So Nancy between me, you and dog we could have her over here for a months holiday!

:cool1: - my case is packed girls!

I know Karen is reading this and saying "Geeez, that's some 'holiday' you guys are planning for me. Do I have any say in this"?:

I like the sound of it actually!

Thanks everyone....We sat and talked today. We told him that we would support him with whatever decision he made but we need to sit and weigh the pros and cons. He thought this would be a good way to be on his own. He also thought that he would be able to continue to go to school and be in the military. We told him that would highly be unlikely. We also told him that there would be a good chance that he wouldn't be able to pick what he wanted to do. Then we went over the pros of serving his country, and the ability to travel, etc. Sean then went to tell him that if he sprung on us that he just went and enlisted without one of us to be there as support, he would be on his own, all the while I am thinking no way are you throwing him to the wolves. I then asked him if he still wanted to be a police officer, and he said yes. I told him that he needed to realize that he can start applying in as little as 2.5 years from now, which seems like a lifetime to a teenager. We then went over what he could do until then, classes in foreign language, working on a degree, which means more money.
So he went out with his girlfriend and talked to her about it, and guess what he isn't going in (for now), but he is planning on moving in with the girlfriend sometime at the end of the year! Ok I am laughing now, but could someone please pass the clairol, I am going to go completely gray!

Glad its sorted:hug:

pop tart and i are going to battle today.:lmao:
she gets up at 4;45 for her sully excersize date. i couldnt fall back to sleep,
so i lost 45 min of sleep today.:headache:

I'm agreeing with the other moms. While I admire his dedication to his country, I would much rather see any son or daughter of mine move in with with a friend instead. Me no likey that Iraq place either.:headache:

That's so interesting Becky. :) My dad fought in WWII but on the German side. (Hungarian actually). Then I just found out that my uncle was forced to work WITH Hitler. Not a good story there. :sad2:

Yea, but what do you do with a 71 year old mother/grandmother who is ripping your heart and your daughter's heart out, that's what I would like to know.............:confused3 :confused3 :confused3

I'll stick with the North Pole option Andy. :santa:

gotta date with some daisies that need pushing up.
(underdog has a bad ticker):rolleyes1

Stop talking like that Dawg. Do you really want me to come over there and open up a can of whoop a$$ on ya? :rotfl2:
