If you would use it primarily for cruising I don't think it's worth it. The best value is using it for the DVC resort stays.
From the 2013 point charts a 7 day on the Fantasy in Sept/Oct is 190 points per person for the first two in a category 7 balcony, additional guest in the room 13 and over is 127 points, plus a $95 fee. When booking with points it virtually impossible to switch cruises if something comes up. Only a certain number of cabins can be booked by DVC. Prior to 2013 opening all available 2012 cruises had been booked for months. I booked this cruise back in Feb 2010 and there was a lot of availability so I'm not sure if booking cruises with DVC has become more popular or if they have restricted the number of available rooms more.
I agree with TwinsFan. DVC makes sense if you like to vacation at DVC resorts and sometimes do something different. We booked this cruise back in the summer of 2010, and when my dad decided he wanted to join us in early 2011, he had a hard time getting a cabin on points (after many calls, he did). I do think the cruise is a decent value for my points (in an Ocean View), but there is a lot of debate about that. It's also been frustrating not to be able to deal with DCL directly (I have to go through DVC member services).
