10/15/2011 - Taking the West by Magic!

we have the late seating because it doesn't so much matter to us and we figured we'd leave the early seating to folks with kids :-)

oh and we've never had an issue with the water on board. We are used to Orlando water (which isn't ideal) and it's better on the ship i think

We have late seating, as well, because DH and I figured we'd give early seating to people with younger children. Plus, when we got out to dinner, we usually end up going around 7ish, so it just pushes us back an hour.:confused3

Btw, I can't remember if your Palo brunch reservation is fully booked? We would be interested if there is still room. We didn't decide we wanted to do the brunch, which I could have booked 90 days out, until recently. If you are full I will try for a reservation when we get on board. Thanks
The private room holds 12 to 14, and we are at 13 right now. We won't know if we have the room until at least September 15. If we don't get chosen, I will be joining you for the on board scramble for Palo ressies!

We are really excited too!! Can't wait to meet all of you. Can I ask if most of you have the early or late dinner seating? We chose the early seating but now I'm rethinking it. We had the late seating on our last cruise.
We are also late diners.

Anyone besides me suffer from motion sickness? I took Dramamine for the first four days of our last cruise and it helped. Any other recommendations? Thanks!:)

We have the late seating, and I have a 1 year old. However, both my DH and myself work late so we don't normally eat dinner till 8 or 9pm. I have the baby on our schedule so she stays up till about 10 and sleeps till 8:30-9am. So i chose the late seating based on our home schedule.

Gotta love kids that sleep in!!

OK Thanks. We will try for our res and if you get the room and anyone cancels, let us know!

We're early dining too, that's just what we've always had!

Water! Thanks for the tips. Looks like I'm bringing empty bottles to fill up on board. Thanks for all the help. P.S. Are we allowed to take water/snacks when we go off the ship...Mexico especially since we are walking a lot?

Yesterday I picked up something from Walmart and it was right next to the Dramamine. It is a liquid that you put behind you ear and it works in less than 5 mins. Also, it is safe and great for kids. Not sure if my kids have motion sickness, but thought I'd take something just in case. Hope this helps.:thumbsup2

We have early seating. I wanted to enjoy my food and not sleep through it. I'm afraid we will be running all day and I might be too sleepy to eat at 7:00.:rotfl2:

We chose the late one... We normally eat late anyways and are coming from the west coast. With the Kids we might use the new service were they pick the kids up an hour into the meal.

That's cool.. I'll look for some for us this weekend. I stocked up on dramamine and the kids version, but this sounds better.

New Questions for all you Repeats.

1) What one item did you wish you packed but didn't or can't live w/o.

2) For the boys who run around in thier gym shorts with no pockets.. what do you do for their key card? Lanyard?

3) How much to the kids normally spend at the arcade over the week. We were thinking about just placing a certain amount on their cards for smoothies and then buying them arcade game cards as needed.

Thanks..and boy it's getting close.. Time to start packing.

I get motion sick very badly:sick: I like Bonine, it doesn' t make me as sleepy as dramamine. I got the one for kids just in case-the children haven't had a problem before, but we have never cruised before. I also have sea bands. Figured it wouldn't hurt to try.

I really liked having an extension cord and blow dryer so I could do my hair at the vanity in the room rather than the bathroom.

1. I wish I had packed a clock. The clocks in the rooms aren't lighted (unless they've changed to the iPod docks) and are across the room on the desk. With the curtain closed the folks in the bed can't even see it.

Of course the converse of this, I didn't ever need my flat iron, with the sea air, there's no way my hair was going straight! :rotfl:

2. It was never an issue for us, the boy was only 7 on our last cruise so we didn't let him carry his own key. Jillian had her own key, but she usually had pockets too. If you've got a lanyard, I'd bring it for them, but only if they're old enough to do check in/check out on their own.

3. Honestly we've never spent a dime in the arcade. As for placing an amount on their cards, you can't actually do that. Each KTTW card is charged to the stateroom account, and you either have charging priviledges or you don't, you can't set a limit through Disney on a card. Now, given that, you can go to Guest Services and request your statement as much as you want, and the charges for each card are listed separately.

Haha. Funny you mention the flat iron. I've been debating that as well. Thinking I may go more natural on vacation and let the hair do what it wants! I wondered if I'd even use it. Helpful advice!

We don't spend money in the arcade either. It's expensive and adds up fast and there are free video games in the children's activity rooms. I also think my son plays video games too much and since we're on vacation, I'm thinking he can take a break from it! Since he is only 8, I might feel different if he was older.

So, what is your opinion of the hair dryers? Some people say they're fine, while others say they can't get their hair dry with them.

I have shoulder length, baby fine hair, and I can dry mine at home in about 5 minutes (if that). I'd rather not have to drag mine along if the one in the room works ok. Other than it's location in the bathroom, will it due?

OK, I'm starting to stress out about my luggage!

We will be gone a total of 12 days, so I will need at least 1 bag for each of us (small, checked at the gate) and probably 1 backpack each to keep things we'll need on the plane (snacks, books, games, cards, etc). Then there's the snorkel gear and FE stuff (which I am just starting to get and it is growing!), so I will probably need AT LEAST one bag to check for that. Is there going to be room for us in the cabin with all this luggage? It doesn't seem like that much but I've never cruised with all 4 of us and don't know how much space we have.

Am I overpacking and I haven't even started yet? :rotfl2:

I'm with you.. starting to think.. wow how much stuff do we pack on the backpacks for the plane since we'll need to pack that stuff on the cruise. How minimal can we get by with. Luckily my kids will be happy with snacks, ipods and a bood. I plan on doing laundry at least twice.. So will try to keep it to 1 small bag per person, plus one for FE and souveniours. We have 5.. so it can add up. I think we store bags under the beds and if you have different sized luggage you can place one in another one.

Packing is going to be no fun for us either lol! I think we're going to mail our FE stuff to the ship to at least get that out of the way. I think we'll have our luggage and backpacks for each of us.

I don't even use them, I've got super curly hair, so I just wash it and let it air dry. I only dry my hair if I'm going to flat iron it, which I can do in Colorado since it's so dry, but down on the ocean, no way!!!!!

We're going to be gone 2 weeks as well. We're packing all of our scuba gear in 1 bag, then we'll have to get all of our clothes, I'll be doing laundry that first day for me and Jillian (Scott and Ryan are going home after our first week). So we'll get Jillian and I into either a small carryon and have the checked bag for the scuba gear, or into a small checked bag (that's airline checked, not Disney checked, we're going to send pretty much everything with the porters when we get on board!).

You can store your bags either in the closet, or under the bed, if they don't fit, just lift the bed up and slide them under. If you've got one that's bigger than another, you can always put the smaller one inside the bigger one.
