1 Week Holidays?

Hey Everyone

We've only just come back from WDW but were already eager to go again. Although getting the time off is not a problem, it is for others in the family (School/College) so we were thinking about going for a 1 week instead of the usual 2. I'd like you thoughts on going for a week because its only around 5 full days and its still extremely exspensive, only around £50 difference each from 7nts to 14nts. Personally im not sure if its worth it or not, im pretty sure it isnt and we should just wait rather than being greedy. Have you ever been for a week?

Hi Shane,

We have never been for a week, like you say cost, we are going for 3 weeks now as we figure the flydrive prices are so expensive in the summer that we may as well make the most of it.

To be honest going for just 1 week doesn't appeal to me, just my opinion, the long flight means you effectively do not fully adjust to the time difference etc for a couple of days.
I just don't think it's worth it, even if you are a regular visitor and are staying on-site, too far to travel.

Sorry but it's a no for me.

First time we went to WDW it was for 1 week as this was all the time I had off. It was really exhausting as we tried to see too much! It can be expensive just for 1 week! Could you possibly go for 10 days?

We went for a week last year and it was absolutely knackering. I think, if you have been loads of times before and you really don't want to do too much, then going for a week could be OK. We tried to do too much and ended up exhausted and arguing DH has said he would never go for a week again (although I'm hoping he didn't really mean it as we're booked to go for a week next year ). We won't be doing Disney at all then, though, and plan to just spend some time relaxing and exploring the local area, something we have never done before as we never seem to venture further than I-Drive or WDW.

We are going for 10 days in December but staying onsite and just concentrating on Disney. However, this will be our 8th visit so we don't feel any pressure to try and cram anything else in this time (apart from some shopping )

Having been for two weeks and spending around ten days at Disney, I feel I need a couple more 'sessions' of two weeks before I even think about reducing the time I spend there. There's just so much to see and I would have to be satisfied myself that I had seen everything I wanted to see, and got out of the experience everything I had expected.

After that I guess I'd be happy to explore other parks *shock horror* and the orlando/kissimee area (hopefully by this time i shall be driving and old enough to hire a car in the US).

However, Disney aside, I just think it's a long way to go for a week....body clocks take a couple of days to regulate so by changing it 5 hours each way so quickly I get the feeling you'd be exhausted for a few days after you got back, and then you're left wishing you had another holiday to recover...might as well take the two weeks when you can (even if it means paying a bit more) and enjoy florida and indeed Disney at a pace to suit YOU....not your flight times

I took my two DDs for a week in October back in 2004 and we had a great time. We headed to the parks for opening knew what we really wanted to do/see, what we would like to do/see if we get time and finally what we were happy to miss. We also spent one day at a water park and managed to swim in the pool a few times as well.

We had a great week and I would definitely do it again if I had no other choice. A week is do-able if you go with the intention of not trying to do and see it all.

I went for a week the first year and it was great, admittedly we had to go commando style to cover everything we wanted to see but it was our first visit, if you've been before you already have an idea of things to miss out and repeat, personally now I could spend an entire week in epcot!
oh, we didn't have time for waterparks either but we did have 1 day spare to shop/laze by the pool.
I certainly wouldn't turn down a week there anyway

my cousins quite often go for the week but tend not to always do the parks on each trip so it is more relaxing. They also wait for a last minute deal. This year they got flight, car, premair upgrade and 4* hotel for a total of just under £900 with MY Travel. they booked ten days roughly before flying out.

on another thought don,t know how far you are from Glasgow but Globespan let you choose what duration you go for i.e. 4, 6, 8, 10 etc etc so you might be able to go for a couple of days longer and then say count your travelling days and stay there for the 7 days

We uaually go for 10 days and find for us that is plenty.

However I am going for one week with my mum in Fab. Personally I find no problem in tiredness getting there, so thats a bonus. Also cost, well its only costing us £1190 for flights, car hire, hotel and travel insurance. Not bad we thought.

I wouldn't have a problem if I could only go for a week. Having been quite a few times, we know which rides/parks we would visit. We never get tired on the outbound leg, just a bit jetlagged on our return, but that would happen if we went for a week or three.

If you really wanted to go for it, you could cram more into the holiday by getting as early and flight there - and going to the park your first evening and then getting the latest flight back (we always get the 8.40pm Virgin flight), then if you use DTD check-in, you've got pretty much most of the day in a park/whatever you want to do

I think I would consider an Annual Pass though, if you intend to go again within a year; this would make it seem more economical.

We have been for a week, but this was when DFIL was living there and we just had to get flights, it was also out 8th trip so we could afford to be picky about where we visited as we didn't need to go to every theme park etc.

I think if this is your second trip then I wouldn't recommend a one week trip I don't think you will see a lot and the cost is alot compared to the 14 night packages that you can get. JMO.

I used to work for BA, and got pretty good deals on standby flights on staff travel. One time, we went to Orlando very last minute, (decided 2 days before) and we went for 4 days! We were exhausted but really enjoyed it. Only did one park, and just pottered the other days. Wouldn't do it again as only did it cos we got the flights for less than £100, but am glad we did it

I took my dd for a week in 2004, whilst my dh had our twin boys at home. We all couldnt afford to go then.

We went for a week and stayed at ASMo and had a great time. I would definately do it again. We only went to Disney as it was Caseys first trip and she loved it.

If I had a choice 1 week or wait for a year I would go.

We went for a week at the beginning of May, it was lovely, mind you saying that we'd just come home from a 2 week holiday
Still it was nice and relaxing and just what we needed.

Would we do it again, yes without a doubt!

We went for a week last year (Sep 05)as we couldn't wait to go again. We went Jan 06 for 2 weeks and couldn't wait again, so we booked for a week and went in May!!!!!!

We have booked for next Jan already but can't wait, so looking to go again in September. Hopefully, for 2 weeks if I build enough flex time at work, if not, we will go for a week!!!!

We tend to concentrate on a particular area when we go for a week, i.e. all disney.

Unfortunately, the thought of going any where else does not appeal to me so it doesn't matter how long I am there for as long as I am!

We have had to cut our trip to 9 nights this year because of my college. We always go for 14 or 15 nights, so this will be hard for us as we always say we have run out of time on our 2 week trips. Our itinerary is very busy and I'm guessing we will be really tied by the end of it but its better than not going at all. We will be going again next year for at least 14 nights to make up for lost time lol.

I actually prefer going for a week because I like to have lots of different holidays in the year. We went for 2 weeks in April/May but I have to say I think I much prefer just going at a quiet time like late October or December and going at the parks commando style. Our next trip to Orlando we are flying out on Boxing Day and going for just the 6 nights as this is what I can fit in with work. I normally go away with work for short periods though so I think I've just got used to shorter breaks, I once went all the way to Australia for 9 days.

I've done a couple of one-week trips and one for six nights and I would do it again without a moment's hesitation

However, you will either need to go all out commando-style to fit everything in (or as much as possible) in a week, or relax and accept that you won't see/do as much as you might want.

The main 'problem' with a week-long trip is just what you've pointed out - it's much more than half the cost of two weeks
