1,000 Points Threshold

Hey Mike,

We are from North Carolina too and are looking into our first DVC purchase. Can you give me a general idea of how you allocate your points over the year? Do you do several long trips or multiple short ones? Do you ever take a spur of the moment long weekend trip? If so, is it hard to get DVC locations for short notice trips? We would probably drive most of the time, I imagine you do as well. About 8-9 hours for us.

That's awesome!!! We are at 200 pts and DH had addonitis BAD when we lived closer to the Mouse but now that we are in HI, we are in a holding pattern.

WOW! $1,000! Is there a limit DVC puts on the amount of points you can own? My DH has asked me if we could get a "kabillion" points and just stay almost as long as we wanted! It gets harder and harder to come home. As we got closer to the end of our vacation he constantly was asking "come on, we can stay another week". We just got home last Sunday night after a 10 day stay at BCV and I had already booked for May before I left home at VWL. While on the bus heading to MK I was on the phone with member services for the 7 month window to switch to BW (I was able to get in - YEA!) I have many times been tempted to add to my points -I have 380. Maybe on the next incentive I'll give in to temptation.

There are limits. I do not think DVC wants you in the same room for a full year, and they do not want rental corporations to permanently own blocks of rooms.

I think it is something like 2000 per resort, 5000 total per contract, but there are ways to have more, like one contract for each spouse plus one for the couple, and if you owned any companies...

How in the world do you get enough time off to use 1000 points? How do you pay for the transportation? Seriously, give me your secret.

Since we stay in a 1-BR and stay on the weekends, the points don't go as far as if we stayed in a Studio and only Sun-Thu. We got spoiled by the space in the 1-BR, the king-sized bed, whirlpool tub, etc. Even though it's just my DW and I, we rarely book a Studio.

As for transportation -- we drive.

We bought our first contract exactly 11 months ago (165 AKV) soon after we added another 160 (AKV) within 2 months of that we bought 200 BCV resale and most recently purchased 210 BLT points the day in went on sale (DH B-day). I suppose you can peg us for having serious addonitis. We are up to 735 pts and not stopping quite yet.

I have this feeling that you may be joining the 1,000 point club sooner than you think.

We never do a spur of the moment trip. Each trip is booked exactly 11 months in advance. We typically take 4 trips a year, with each trip being at least 8 nights, but our last trip was 10 nights and our next trip is 12 nights. We drive, as it's only 8.5 hours and we hate the hassle of airports. Plus, we can bring down everything we need without requiring an Owner's Locker.

I believe the limit is 2,500 for one resort and 5,000 total.

I'm surprized I don't see Old Key West (on your list)
The place that started it all!

As you can tell from the resorts I own at, I prefer the DVC resorts attached to the "deluxe" resorts rather than the "condo" style resorts (OKW, SSR). That's just my personal preference.

Now, THAT'S the way to make the most out of an AP!!! :lovestruc

I hope you enjoy each and every one of those 1000 points, as I am sure you will !! Congratulations on your latest purchase! :)

Congratulations!!! My husband and I just closed on our first DVC purchase (180 points AKV Kidani) on November 3rd.

I think I would feel the same way, even though the 1000 is only 100 points more than you already had there is something different about that
magic number --> 1,000!

Congratulations again!

1,000 sounds pretty good!
Except for in Jan when the dues come around.

If I had that many I would probably stay in GV a lot more at this point in my life -- more so than increase # of trips. And invite extended family to visit with us more often.

Then I would spend more time in 1BR with DW after the kids leave home. It would be hard for me to stay in studios. DVC really has me spoiled.

If and when we sell our condo -- which we will probably do some day down the road -- I plan on putting some of that money into DVC points.:wizard:

We're planning on booking a GV at AKV and inviting my parents. Just the four of us in a GV. :goodvibes

Congrats Mike! I own 320 pt at AKV, and can't wait to add more.

I am happy to see, I am not the only one looking to have 4 people (dh, dd 16, ds 15 and I) in a GV. Of course we are only able to do 5 nights during "Adventure Season", but it will definitely be worth it. :rotfl:

Congrats, Mike! I wish we were within driving range. Our yearly flight cost for 5 or so trips is almost as much as our dues! Enjoy that GV!

Hey one of these years, I just might book a GV for the 4 of us. That 2br gets a little too close for comfort with active boys(12 and 7). Plus I want a real dining table, especially if I want to use the kitchen for more than breakfast.

Definately a GV if we bring the boat anchor with us(aka my younger sister). :lmao:

We just added on to BLT which now has put us at 1089 points. We have made the 1000 point club. When we first purchased DVC back 5 years ago I never in my wildest dreams thought we would ever own 1000 points. Our dreams have really come true. I have the most wonderful DH there can be.

Congrats, wisbucky!

Congratulations DVC Mike!

Just for fun we should start a pool on what date you will pass the 1500 point mark. I'll start with a Sept 2010 prediction. The winner gets to buy you a beer at WDW, which should be easy to set up, because you are usually there!
