09/28/2002 Cruise

Nancy, It's hard to see anything of the race if you sit!!! Everyone STANDS the whole time!LOL!Also impossiable to HEAR anything once the " start their engines". Silly as it sounds, it's VERY exciting!

Hope you can join us for the sail away.
Lauren and Elaine, thanks for helping with the Palo's line. I will have everyone's assignment, with maps, 8x10 color glossys, with circles and arrows, and a paragraph at the bottom of each one, explaining what each one is, and how it will be used to attain our goal. (Apologies to Alice's Resturant).
Mary: Got nothing with List 16.2. Is it my puter? Or yours?
Papa: Glad you are both doing better.
I ordered some Starfish pins from the website Elaine talked about. They arrived yesterday. I'm going to give them to all my team members. They are great! Later, Ave'

Mary--I e-mailed Captain Marvin's yesterday, and I sort of expected a reply today. Did it take a while for them to get back to you?

Welcome, Gil & Vickie. Seems to me that we all picked the best possible week to sail--our cruise will have the nicest people.

Rae--Obviously, there are no Star Trek fans in your family. Tell Tom that my Riker was named after Commander William Riker of the Starship Enterprise. FYI, Will had a beard and a mustache--not unlike my Schnauzer. Our second choice for a name was, of course, Spock--of the pointed ears. My son Kevin thought that was TOO obvious. We will definitely have some interesting dinner conversations.

Hope everyone is feeling healthy. The countdown is getting more believeable every day.

Karen

Karen, I had a cat named "Tribble" Do you remember "The Trouble with Tribbles"? Ave

Hello all!

Very stormy here tonight--tornado warnings out for neighboring counties.

Elaine-We will be at the Magic Kingdom on the Friday before we leave. Let me know if you are going to be there also.

Mary-You make Charleston sound wonderful. I think you should plan a post 9/28 cruise dismeet there. I'm sure you've got the hostess thing down now. What do you think everyone--should we meet at Mary's after the cruise to compare and swap pictures? (Just kidding, Mary)

35 days until we leave for Orlando:bounce: :bounce: :bounce: --anybody need anything from SeaWorld, Wilderness Lodge or MK?

My little boy started kindergarten today--I was a little teary this morning. Then his teacher sends home this beautiful poem about sharing our child with her and the tears started up again. Oh well, I'm sure I'll survive. At least we don't have daycare payments anymore
:D

The storm is getting closer--better sign off.
Take care.

Kimber

Ave, glad the pins are nice. Your team deserves them!

Karen...it seems it took a few days for Capt. Marvin to e-mail me. I would say to e-mail again if you don't hear from them by Friday.

Kimber....I would LOVE to host a post-cruise get together! As long as you all do what my brothers and sisters did...rent a condo at Kiawah Island Resort!!!LOL!I did host one at Disney Hilton Head Island Resort last Feb. and had a bunch of folks make reservations. Unfortunetly, most wound up canceling due to different things. We had fun with those that came!
All kidding aside if anyone comes to the Charleston area, please let me know! I can point you to the best, hotels, bed&breakfast, resturants, tours, ect. I LOVE to show off my home town!

Patty....:( wish you were coming!

Rikersmom - Twinave - you aren't alone in the name game!

Michael named our cat "Mr. Bumpy" after the TV show "Bump in the Night"! I named our dog "Kira" after Kira from Deep Space Nine! My favorite Star Trek character was Tasha Yar. I was very much into Babylon Five - "Zathras" being my favorite!

Haven't watched TV in a long time and forgot about poor Will Riker!!!! Right now I'm doing matathon book readings - First everything written by Ann Rule, then all of Sidney Sheldon's, now Clive Cussler. Don't know where I am going after that, but all the talk about Charleston, SC had me go out and get a book about it. You just never know where my travels will take me next!

Kimber1963 - tornado warnings? Wow! Scary but fascinating!
My Michael wants to be a storm chaser - ever since he was about 2 and could verbalize. His room is all covered in posters and pictures of tornados and storms, his favorite show is the Weather Channel - turns off the sound and pretends he is the meteorologist!

I know it's hard now for you to let your son go, but just think of the adventures he will tell you about when he comes home!

Also, Karen, I am feeling a lot better - thanks - must have been Mom's tapioca pudding. I'm going to milk this a little more and get potato salad tomorrow! Ohhh, I'm soooooo bad!

Rae

Rae,

Have you read any of the Janet Evanovich series "One for the Money" is the first one? I read all eight of them over the summer. She has a web site www.evanovich.com. Stephanie Plum is the main character and they are fast reading and very addictive. There was a thread this summer about what book are you taking on the cruise and it was amazing how many Stephanie Plum fans are out there. I sent all mine to someone I meet on that thread ad then she sent me a whole bunch of books. So I have several to take with me on the cruise.

Kimber---Hope you are safe. How well I remember sending the children off to kindergarten with mixed emotion.

Mary---A reunion at Hilton Head sounds great. Is Charlestown where rainbow row is?

Nancy

Hello to Vickie and Gil! and hope everyone is feeling well! Mary I wa waiting and sure enough you delivered with the :bounce: guys I love to see their # reduced every time you do it. When are you going to do single digets. I would love to do a Charlestown /Savanna trip saw both on a travel show and they both knocked my socks off also want to do a New England fall trip some year. NASCAR ????? I just don't get it. I really love cars, love the paint jobs and hats don't get the sitting watching cars go around and around for hours. I know it has spread like wild fire but I just don't get it. Now is anybody a country western fan and have you ever been to Fan Fair? Raised a rocker converted to country, actually love all types of music classical to jazz all but X rated hip hop. OK gang got to run still waiting for Doc's maybe they will not get here for a couple of weeks I can stand the excitment! See YA!

Nancy, YES! Rainbow Row is in Charleston. A very pretty (and VERY pricey) section of the historic district.

George, glad you like the :bounce:
I will start a daily countdown at 19 days

I really did not get the Nascar stuff either at first. It takes a while to learn the different "personalities" of the different drivers. It helps to watch it with a fan who can give some insight.

NOW...I have been looking over the list and I see several Dis'ers who we have not heard much from lately.
CALLING VondaP, MikeJ,#1EeyoreFan,Kidnus,Bonitad,TiiigerGirl,KellyR.

To those who have not joined up (BetteMom, Lexsup, and tcjp4me) if you wish to be added to the list, and get your own personal copy;) e-mail me RellingTwin@aol.com with your info (DisName, real name(first names only)/age/occupation/kids names/ages, Main or late dinning, hometown, where you will be the night before we sail, and any special occasion you may be celebrating during the cruise. )
I will add you to the list and send you a copy, as well as updates as others join up.
tcjp4me...I do not think I said hello when you posted:eek: Sorry, I was sort of busy with my family reunion at the time. I think we have DDs the same age. I think the 8-11age group children number about 14!!!

We are currently at 44 Adults/30 children (that's 22 Dis'ers with families) I would be great to get to 100 before we sail!

I would be happy to help out with the Paolos reservations for Brunch. Will see you all at the Radison on Friday night.
Welcome Gil and Vicki!
I called Disney Castaway # to ask when our docs were coming and the woman who answered was somewhat rude and more or less said they will come 2 weeks to a month before the cruise and I should call my travel agent with questions. I tried to access my reservation with the reserv # on their website, and could not. Disney folks are usually wonderful but this lady could not be bothered with me since I had a travel agent who was going to get a commission.
My agent says they sent excursion info to her for me but no docs; I told her to hold them until the docs come.
The ship should be close to full since my travel agent buddy can not get a discount for our cruise date but could for all the other Sept and most of the Oct dates. She really wanted to join us so is disappointed.

Mike ... :bounce: We wish you a Happy Birthday, :bounce: We wish you a Happy Birthday, :bounce: We wish you a Happy Birthday, :bounce: and Many More TOO!!!

Still waiting for the documents ... Art said he's going to have a "little chat" with the Fed Ex Guy when he delivers to the school!

Check back later .....

Thanks to everyone for the warm welcome to the Forum.

We have two sons (29 & 20). they will not be on the Cruise. Just the two old folks on a well deserved vacation from everything.

We will be at the Sail Away Party and look forward to meeting everyone.

We have not received our documents yet either.

Gil & Vickie

:smooth:

Lexsup - Welcome Gil and Vickie!
Glad to know you are getting away - just the two of you! I'm traveling with my Mom (73) and my son (7) this time around - and we all look forward to getting together!

Delta dropped the price of the tickets we have, so we are getting back nearly $95.00 in vouchers EACH! I can't believe that one at all! It will help pay for the May air fare.

Also, I haven't heard a word - not a breathe about the American Express "priority seating at Palo" - different answers each time I call DCL and AM Ex says it's something Disney takes care of. I'll give them a few more days then I'll call again.

I did read on another board that Disney is doing with a VISA next time around and some people are getting on line inquiries from Disney regarding the credit card - a few perks with the inquiry also. That would be nice!

If we can just get the days to pass quicker!

Rae

Welcome Gil and Vickie!

Question for the whole gang: Who has gotten docs already and who hasn't?

I'm in the hasn't yet bunch.

Thanks for the birthday wishes Cathy. I am going to put Katie in her stroller and go to opry mills mall and do a little trolling;)

Beth put us in the gotten docs column. Also on the outside of the document holder is a big orange notice about the new requirements as far as birth certificates and photo id's. It has to be an official birth certificate not a copy and the photo id has to be issued by a state or government agency for US citizens.

Haven't decided on what to have for dinner tonight. Kathy took me to cracker barrel for birthday breakfast along with DD1. Mike

Papa - now you are scaring me. Does it say that a copy is ok as long as it has the raised seal? That's the impression I was under from reading Webmaster Michelle's post on documentation. DH's is an official copy. I don't want him to not be able to get on the ship.

Here is the information from Michelle's post:
IMPORTANT DOCUMENTATION REMINDER: We would like to clarify our position regarding acceptable documentation necessary to travel aboard our cruise ships.

All U.S.citizens must travel with proof of citizenship. These include one of the following:

• Valid U.S. Passport

• Certified birth certificate with acceptable picture identification. Copies of birth certificates without a raised seal are not acceptable.

• Certified Naturalization certificate with acceptable picture identification.

Acceptable forms of picture identification are state driver’s license, or federal, state or local government photo ID card. Guests age 17 and under who are U.S. citizens are only required to have proof of citizenship, excluding picture identification.

Hey thanks rae for the heads up. I called Delta and since I purchased my ticket I get a voucher for $49 back. Bill and William are using free tickets so no vouchers there. Just booked our air tickets for disneyworld in December. We are going Dec. 15th-21st. We will miss the Chritstmas rush but still get to see all the gorgeous decorations. It will be my mom and the two boys going. My father is retired military so when she and I go we stay at Shades of Green. IT is a great place and only $69 a night. We booked that for Christmas then got a note from then saying they were closing for renovation so they moved us to the Contemporary. Still for $69/night. I was pretty excited. That is one resort we haven't stayed in. Never particularly cared for it but for $69 a night and having the monorail right there It will be great!. Dixie Landings (port orleans) was our favorite. I think we have styed in just about all the others.

Beth, we are in the "gotten" list. We got ours a couple of weeks ago. Right after the first person. NO upgrade though. We are in a category 6. Love that verandah!

OUr weather has cooled a little bit. Still warm in the day but it does cool off at night. And it is nice and cool in the morning. Kids are back at school now and I have plenty of time to plan the packing, My "hidey Hole" with cruise stuff is getting full.
Bye have a great day. Elaine

Eshannon - Glad you got the voucher! Hey, every little bit helps. Delta is also very good at giving vouchers if you have problems on the flight (seating/weather related, etc). I mean, a legitimate complaint is handled very well.
I have never stayed at Shades of Green - we are retired military but it seems like such a long walk for us with our mobility challenges. I know that sounds funny but there are times when just that little bit of a walk is too much for us.
I am sorry we are going to miss you in December - we will be there Dec 12-14 (Poly) then on the Wonder for a 4 nighter. Yes, I totally agree after seeing Disney once at Christmas with my other children - I wanted to go back and let Michael see it while he is still young.

I got my documents on Monday from the TA. He mailed them on Saturday. Since my last name begins with "R" - I don't know the rhyme or reason for all of us not getting them at once or them doing it alphabetically. No upgrade for us either. Just a Cat 6 - verandah on Deck 5. But it is my FAVORITE room so....what the heck!

For Karen (Rikersmom) - the potato salad is very good. Maybe I should give you my Mom's number and you can see what you get. ; )
