09/28/2002 Cruise

:bounce: I just got to hear Baby Katie "talk" on the phone .... it was soooooo nice to hear such a little baby. Keep up the healing Mike.

Ave --- Then there is plan C ... We just take over all of Palo's for ourselves. Seriously, a bunch of tables close together or 2 brunches or whatever it takes.

Last night Art caught me waist deep in my "cruise box" and said "hey don't forget the ..." I guess you could say we are starting to get really into cruise prep mode.

Barb & George - Art & I are going to try and get passports in addition to our Drivers License and Birth Certificates. Only cause of something I heard about someone that took a Carnival Cruise.
And hey what the heck ... if Disney ever expands elsewhere, then we have them.

Well heading out of work ... check on you from home later!

@GoofyNut: No, I'm not involved in the horrible aircraft-crash over Germany, nor is any German. The airspace it happened in is controlled by the the Swiss Air Traffic Control Service. But it happened over German soil, and that's also where all the debris and the 71!!! dead came down. It seems to be caused by bad luck and gross negligence by the Air Traffic Controllers. I did my apprenticeship as an ATC controller in that sector in the training simulator and I can image what it must be like for the controlle who caused the crash.
In my company everybody is shocked, because we "live aviation" as we are a Boeing subsidiary and the largest provider globally for aeronautical information.
The most tragic element of the crash is, that 47 of the 71 fatalities were kids from Russia around age 15, who were awarded the trip for good marks in school. Fortunately the second aircraft was a cargo-carrier with a crew of two only. Just imagine it would have been a fully loaded 747 with 440 souls on board !!
And another miracle was that there weren't any casualties on the ground, even though a whole wing and undercarriage fell in a garden just 20 feet from a house and so did many more parts of the two involved planes.

Cathy, Dusted off the iron today and plugged it in. It worked!!! I followed all the directions and the shirts came out great. Just one wrinkle, (get it:rolleyes: ) I could not find shirts in all our sizes the same color light blue. Never realized just how many blues there are. I am way too a### retentive to have less then exact matching shirts, so I got white ones. :p Thanks again!

Whew! Just caught up with all the posts. The "package" arrived safe and sound. They are great. Thank you! I think I will be putting them on pillowcases also.

DH and I are interested in Palos Brunch. We are also interested in Captain Marvins for the 4 of us. Kids are 10 & 8. Should I contact Capt. Marvin? We snubaed (not sure that's a word) in St. John and loved it.

I need to pay more attention to the posts, it's getting closer and closer and I don't want to miss anything.

Vonda

Twinave,

How can yuo reserve a room? Perhaps my Halloween cruisers would be interested in this.

Papa, get better soon! Also tell Kathy HI!

Viking-I got the CD, I couldn't find your email address. Still in the planning stages, but would love to see you all again too!

Dan

Hi Gang! Lastest DIS cruise List in now in your mailboxes. If anyone has not gotten one, please e-mail me!

VondaP...e-mail Capt. Marvin and book your trip. We are on the 1/2 day 10am-1pm trip. If you book that one also, mention the DIS group.

Advice on the brunch...figure out how many people want to go, then book as many "large" tables as needed. Last year many of us dinned at the same time and it worked out fine. My only regret was that DH and I boooked a table for 2 and were not close to the other DIS'ers. The larger tables seemed to be having the most FUN! SO...3 tables for 6 might be the way to go!

George...no you do NOT need to have a passport. A DL and a birth cert. will work fine.

RE: Key West. TwinAve and her DH spent a week there a few years ago. We are going to let them be our guides! The "must see" (I am told) is the performers at Malloy Square at Sunset Celebration. I am thinking that we will just do some walking around, and shopping. I saw something on the Travel Channel about swimming with Sea Lions on Key Islamador (Sp) but have been unable to find any more information on it.

Dan, I'm not sure about how booking the romm at Palo's is done. But I e-mailed my travel agent (we booked thruogh Dreams Unlimited) with the request and she responded about an hour later saying she talked with the Disney people and she could take care of it for me. Of course as it stands right now we have gotten too big for our britches.:D
The count is now up to 20, includeing VondaP. And will probably continue climbing. I like the idea of booking several large tables. That way no one gets left out.
Just got back from MIB II. Very funny! Just Love Tommy Lee Jones.
Key West is...well Key West. Kind of dumpy, tacky, and well more tacky. There is NO beach there that I would want to set foot on. Mallory Square at sunset is fun. We also did the Counch Train Tour. My SIL and I went to the old cemetary and walked around for about an hour. One headstone reads "At least I know where he is sleeping tonight." LOTS of T-shirt shops, and bars. We were there in Oct 98, right after a big hurricane came through. But we spent most of our time diving and snorkling. My advise is not to expect too much, and enjoy it for what it is.
OK I am now passed 70 posts, when do I get my Dis Vet ?title??? :p

Welcome DIS Veteran AVE:bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce:
The several large tables sounds like the way to go. Great talking to you on the phone last night Cathy and thanks for calling.

When I get mended I need to get a new blazer or something for the trip and the law of gravity has me firmly in its grasp. I think that someone has moved the buttons when I wasn't looking. They don't close like they should;) (too heavy)

Mary I am glad that you enjoyed your trip to NY and met with Tulirose and the family again. Come on September!!!!!!!!!! Mike

All space shuttle launches have been delayed at least two months due to cracks in fuel lines. Doesn't look good for 10/06/02 viewing of a launch. :(

I'm so excited! Last night we booked our flights! So now it is official!!!

Hello all--

Just checking in. I see some people have already done their T-shirt transfers. I guess I had better get on the ball and go find some light blue T-shirts. Where has everyone found them? Walmart?

TwinAve-Large tables at Palo's would be fine with us. We enjoyed MIB II also
:smooth: My kids loved "Frank"

Getting back to the T-shirts--is everyone suppose to wear them when we are boarding or just for the dis-meet?

RellingTwin- You will have to tell DD that we got another golden retriever puppy. Shadow now has another canine playmate, Buddy. He was named after the Air Bud movies where the golden retriever plays basketball, football etc... Maybe your dog Shadow also needs a new playmate...

All for now,

Kimber

Kimber we wear ours when we board that way people in the terminal know who we are. 77 days can you believe it:bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce:
We bought our tee shirts at Walmart. They are not the exact same shade, but they will look great especially with Cathy's designed logo on them.

Received our permanent handicapped placard so that gets us great parking spots at the end of the rows at the parks. We don't park in the handicapped lot as that is too far to walk. If I had applied for it when we first had kids I could have gotten it on mental conditions:p Wouldn't trade our children for anything, but they can drive us just a little nuts at times
;)

Tiiiigergirl just hang with this carzy bunch and you will have a great time. This is shaping up to be one great cruise. Mike

Hi guys .... Hope everyone is fine and healing (Did you hear me Mike!).

From the sounds of it everyone is getting excited. Stopped at Walmart today and got a few more things for the Cruise box. Next thing you know I'll have the suitcases out and be filling them with the designated "cruise only" stuff.

I've made one set of shirts up and am thinking about a second set. I got the shirts at WalMart, but any place that sells t-shirts usually has the colored ones out this time of year. I even picked up a nice sleeveless one for myself to do up. If anyone that got the package didn't have enough iron-ons, and you have a scanner, you can scan the plain paper one I sent out ... WalMart and any stationary store has the iron-on paper to make more.

We'll be wearing our shirts at boarding ... as Mary said, that way you can pick us out of the crowd. For the first timers ... I do mean crowd!!!!

:bounce: Regarding Key West ... I have a map SIL gave me. There is a place that you can swim with dolphins, sealions or sting-rays or Eco tours or bottomless boat rides. It's called Theater of the Sea. If I can find their web-site, I'll let you all know.

Eric, nice to hear from you and so glad you weren't directly involved in the air accident .... I as worried about you. I may have a friend coming your way later this year ... military call-up. If he does go to germany, I'm going to try and get you two to meet ause you are soooooo much alike ;)

Well gotta make dinner and get ready to sit down and watch Big Brother!

Palo's Brunch: I'm really leaning towards just having a few large tables. There are now a total of 22 people who are interested. And I'm sure more will want to join-in on the fun. I am going to contact my travel agent again to see if there are any limits on how many tables I can reserve when we board. I could get a final count before leaving home, then take care of it while I'm making my reservations for dinner.
Our T-shirts came out great. DH has small logo on the front with large logo on the back. DS has a sleeveless t-shirt, DD and mine are just regular t-shirts, and all these have the logo on the front. My iron is EXHAUSTED. ;)
Mike : Thanks I didn't think I would Ever make it to Dis Vet status. :bounce: :bounce: :bounce:

We are healing Cathy. I received my shore excursion info from Disney in the mail today along with the request for final payment. Boy they are slow on that one, I have already paid it yesterday.

Going to have to clean a spot out in the sewing room to set up the ironing board. Kathy has been working on some projects and there is baby stuff everywhere.

Good to hear from Eric, Anja and the rest of our cruisears cruisers that haven't posted in a while. Oh and by the way Eric were you in the German Love parade today? Mike

I finally finished packing DD stuff for camp tomorrow. She will be at Girl Scout camp( Jr Horse Women) for a week! I miss her already and we don't take her until tomorrow! She is VERY excited! She will be learning the basics of horsemanship and they will be riding twice a day!
TwinAve...if you are unable to book the brunch ahead of time we need to be FIRST in line when they begin taking Palo reservations! Also you need to be sure to have everyone cabin number and be sure everyone who understands if you are a no-show you are charged! Someone correct me if I am wrong on this!

Mike I am glad you are feeling better!

Kimber..your new puppy is TOO CUTE!TwinAve had a Golden named Bud! I however ,do NOT need another pet! A dog,cat and turtle are prenty for this household!LOL!

@GoofyNut...let me know if you find a web site about the swim with sealion thingy. It looked like a blast!I would consider renting a car to go to it if I can make advance reservations. I do not wish to go to the truoble and expense of renting a car only to find out we can't do it that day.

I hope everyone got the updated list. Any lurkers who want to get in on the good stuff....post a message, and send me your info!

Mary give DD a hug from us and hope that she has a good week at camp. Since your DD Mary is a girl scout I am sure that she sells those delicious thin mint cookies. There are ususally several troops outside the door at the local Krogers and I get some then. I tell Kathy those evil;) little brownies and scouts twist my arm to make me buy them. Gives my cardiologist a fit when he is trying to get my cholosterol down:o

I spoke with my TA yesterday via e-mail. She said she would check into reservations at Paol's for Brunch, but would not be able to give me an answer till Monday.
Mike, glad the gorillacillin is working. Sorry to break it to you, but Girl Scout Cookies have NO calories, No cholesterol, and No fat. I read about that on the internet.:p Hey, maybe we could get Eric to invite us all to his house for next year's Love Parade. I have a new thong I'm just dying to show off. :jester:
Gotta run, laundry to do. Ave'

Ave .. Congrats on being a "Vet". bet most of the posts were on this thread;) Glad the shirts come out OK.

Mary ... the website for the sea-life swim and boatrides in key West is WWW.theaterofthesea.com Seems there is one price for admission that includes the shows and possibly the boat rides. You might want to check it out.

Horsemanship at Scout Camp ... how cool. I used to show and had my own horse (Beauty, a paint quarterhorse) That was a lot of fun.

Mike ... glad to hear you are healing. Monday I'm calling DU and making my final payment too.

Just got the snail-mail for Dennis & Chrystina .... I'll be sending them the package Monday.

Anyone else that wants to make shirts and needs a package ... remember I need a snail-mail address to do so. PM me!

All the name tags are done, laminated and hole punched for those on the current DIS Cruisears List that RellingTwin-Mary is keeping. It'll cut down on the stress of trying to remember each others names that way!

Well back to some chores....

Alaska Golf anyone? Today, there were Bears on the Tee Box, Porcupines in the fairway and Moose on the Greens!!! Was just too much fun. Bears were just playing thru, in the wrong direction, but I wasn't going to argue with a mother w/cub. Nor would I argue with the porcupine or the moose. Although the porucpine had the courtesy to move along at a reasonable pace. The moose just didn't seem to grasp the idea of slow play!!!

Weather here is a nice & comfortable 70-72 but the days are already getting noticeably shorter. Down to about 17hrs 30mns in Anchorage. Makes nights a bit longer and easier to get sleep.

Had Chrystina here from Alabama for a couple of weeks which was nice, but alas, she has returned to the Deep South now.
SERIOUS fishing this next weekend now!!! "Cats away .... Play"
Headed for Silver Salmon this weekend in Prince Williams Sound.

FISH-ON!!!
