09/21/08 SSMC08 S.S. Member Cruise 2008 - Part 3!

WOW! I checked the boards the first few days back and there wasn't to much action. Then work got busy and I figured everyone had moved over to the SSMC09 board. Boy was I wrong! I was going to check in last Fri. night on chat but got sick and didn't get a chance too. Been sick most of this week too however I did get to peek my head in earlier tonight. After I got off and put Rheya to bed I went through the 30 or so pages I had missed. LOVE the pics! Ellen, I must say your camera does take wonderful pictures. I would add some to facebook IF I used facebook but since I don't I'll have to figure out how to post some here. I really wish I was going on the MC09 or BOB but at the moment we aren't planning to do either one. Really want to let my niece experience the cruise but her mom will only let her go during the summer so June it is. For now anyway. It's been a month and I miss it sooooo much already! So much is going on at work but that's a whole other story. Well I just wanted to post a quick hello and let you all know I'm still around!

I just got a call from Dave Hallam he and his wife Sue were on the Members with us.
Nancy and I were out for a walk so I will call him back after lunch. He was wondering what cruise Nancy and I were taking. He said on his message he and Sue were leaning towards the Members for next year. After lunch I will call him back and tell him what were doing. I will let them make up ther own mind Mary. I WON"T COERCE I Promise.
Mary I hope you have good luck with your new glasses. As Nancy says it's just the ravages of time.

Dan - Coerce, coerce!!! They would have a blast on the Members and the Bash!!!! You must talk them into both!!!!

My son has gotten his official acceptance into the Pacific program with his university - who can tell me things I need to know about contacting him in Australia and New Zealand? Cell phone usage? Anything and everything I need to know - it's so far though a great opportunity for him!

Good for him. A friend of my son was just there as an exchange student. He lived in Brisbane(sp?) Scott went for a month. He bought a phone card and called us from pay phones. He had a ball for a month.

Thanks Joanne - that is very helpful information. I hadn't thought of phone cards, and I didn't know anyone had pay phones still. He will be there for 4.5 months. When he gets home it will be for only a few days then he will go back to Maryland for his last co-op tour. I know he will have a blast there and take good courses; the co-op is a fantastic opportunity too. The two of them together just takes him away from home for a long time. Phone cards should help.

That is what we are supposed to do though, right - raise them to be independent, hard-working, honest, good men who live on their own and answer their calling.

At least his last two semesters will be on campus. I think he will look forward to having a normal year - he hasn't done that since freshman year. He misses out on a lot of campus life being gone every other semester.

Yes, he sent me one too! This makes 11 out of the 14 that were there this time. If Frank ends up coming, it'll be 12. I am so excited! I'm glad they're going. I had asked Dan in yesterday's PM if he gave them the URL for the Bash site. I hope he did. DVCers are taking over the Bash! Cool! It will be so much fun to see so many again!

He didn't give Dan an E-mail - said he's not an E-mail or message board person! Told us that when we ran into him at BCV after the cruise. Only exchanged phone #. So I guess we'll just have to wait til Oct. to chat.

We survived babysitting the little kids & the other guy's team won their hockey game 4-2.

Good morning everyone! Sorry I haven't been around much. Lots going on at work. Spent from 11 am - 8 pm at a trade show yesterday. I'm feeling it today in my ankle.

Sounds like you have quite the group for the BOB cruise. I know you are all going to have a blast.

While we would love to as far as all the people going, we just can't. We already have two vacations commited for next year and that is our limit time and money wise. A week at WDW and the '09 Member Cruise. I understand you all wanting to go for a longer cruise and that's great (we've done it as well). I just don't want to give up the guests that DVC brings on for us. We are both Disney history nuts and to us that is what makes the cruise. I also love the CC, sea, CC itinerary. We get enough of CC to really enjoy ourselves each day but we also get time on the ship and the guests to make it special as well.

I understand your reasons completely! We loved the guests - amazing people we wouldn't have met elsewhere - and 2 days at CC. In thinking about this longer cruise we cited both of those member cruise features as reasons not to do it. I have always wanted to go to the Virgin Islands, and a 7 day is appealing, but we are lamenting losing the 2 days at CC, the guests, and the special gifts. It is a trade-off, and since we haven't done the itinerary, that won out. The bonus is all the folks from the member cruise who are going, so we don't feel like we're missing out completely. I do understand - selfishly, I wish you were going with us! Just know you are wanted and your company is appreciated and enjoyed!
