Hello everyone. I am home today with DS while he is recuperating. The doctor diagnosed his with pneumonia  after looking at his chest x-rays. I am thankful that he did not have to go to the hospital. It was just a little spot. He is on antibiotics. He seems to be doing much better :goodvibes because he no longer wants to cuddle with me. I miss the cuddling. :sad1:

pixiedust: Oh the poor boy!

Love the AK safari. However, I thoroughly enjoy our own little "safari" trips here in Utah. Took a drive on Sunday up the mountain 20 minutes from our house to Silver Lake at Brighton for a little walk and guess what we saw?

Wow, I'm so glad to hear that little DS is doing so much better - especially now that the doctors know why he was so sick! Sick little ones is a scary thing. But I know what you mean about missing the cuddling - that's the best part of the whole thing - besides the fact that they are getting better, of course! :thumbsup2

Since the party bus didn't work out, I'm wondering if someone else would like to share a ride. There is only DH and myself but not sure if this will work. If not, I'll just find out about taking Disney transportation. Annmarie

WOW, I was told on my tour outside of SLC that there are a lot of moose...we went to the Olympic venue and into another mountain area, but never saw any...probably good, as I have never seen a moose and I would have been terrified that it would attack me or something....are they docile animals like deer? We have lots of BIG deer around here and an occasional tiny red fox, and small black bears...no moose!
Wow, that's a loaded question.....

I would definitely say my most favorite cruise of all time was the very first Panama Canal Cruise in May, 2005. We had been on the disboards the whole year before we went and felt like we knew everyone before we cruised and the disboard groups always make our trips even more memorable. There were so many "firsts" on that cruise that DCL had never experienced before and it was 14 nights! At first we didn't know what we would do on a ship for 14 nights, but through the disboards we planned so many activities, we didn't have time for everything.

But, I love all the LONG cruises. Being on the ship for 3 or 4 or 7 nights is just way too short. The longer cruises are just more relaxing and enjoyable.

Our first long cruise (the 10 day Christmas Cruise in 2004) is when we met Mark and Mary and many others who we have now become cruise buddies with. It ends up like you are having "family reunions" when you cruise together again.

The thing I like most about cruising is getting on the ship, relaxing or doing as much as I want, reading a good book and reuniting with old friends, cast members (who are like family to me now) and meeting new friends. The disboards have definitely been that link for new friendships that will last a lifetime.

If you want to do a longer cruise, I would definitely recommend on going on the ship that repositions to Southern California once the new ships start coming out in 2011. The transatlantic cruise was wonderful (6 days at sea), the Med cruises were great (but no downtime for relaxing, different ports every day) but the Panama Canal cruise was just right in terms of ports and sea days. And the historical aspect of the canal and experiencing the ship doing the transit through the canal is an awesome experience. I would recommend it to anyone who hasn't gone through the canal. And, who can beat a deck 9 BBQ all day while transiting through the canal.

Okay, I'll get off my soap box now. Can you tell I love to cruise?

You have had some great trips. It gives me something to plan for...hoping to retire 2012...I will be 62...unless the economy continues to plummet and then maybe I will work until 2015...It would be great to go on one of those special cruises as a retirement gift to DH and me...our birthdays are 25 days apart.
Maybe I will like it so much I will want to cruise like you!

I am anxious to meet all of the Dis folks...you are right, it is fun to meet people and see them on your next trips. I met a family on the boards who rented some of my vacation points and we are such good friends, meet in WDW and it is like having another family!

I have to go on the members page and try to remember who goes with which dis name...I also have to email a picture to Mary!

I am up for that if it is going to save me money from the Disney Cruise bus!
Just DH and me....

Loved the 2002 Olympics. Our daughter danced in the Opening Ceremonies and was one of the 7 youngest girls to be in the Pioneer portion. Since then she has been in the movie High School Musical (they filmed all 3 in Utah) and is currently one of the leads in Beauty and the Beast. She will be a senior in high school this coming year. Okay, I'm done bragging now.

On the Panama Canal Cruise, we took my parents for their 50th wedding anniversary. They loved it.

WOW...that is fabulous..your daughter must be a very talented girl. I'll bet she was thrilled. Where is she performing Beauty and the Beast? Hey, brag away. I love to hear about kids doing well. I admire you!

My husband keeps saying, "Remember when we were young and parents were sent on trips by their kids? Well, when are our kids going to send us someplace? " Well, good luck with that one!

Tell me more about your daughter. Any pictures you can post?

Let me explain to everyone about my photo...my dear darling son in law added a caption to it...it is of me and DH in the ride at chocolate world, and he snapped a picture of us unknowingly...and added a caption...
"Now remember Bob, this isn't the tunnel of love"....it was hilarious and I thought you would enjoy it...it is typical me and Bob..:lmao:

Wow, I forgot how beautiful it can be in the mountains around SLC. The Moose are amazing. Thanks for the reminder :)

My oh my, I really agree with the Panama Canal Cruise. It was one of my favorite cruises. I took the book "The Path Between the Seas" and read it on the cruise, fascinating. We have done this cruise 3 times, and yes, I agree, longer is better (21 days for our longest).

Hi all.

Marsha - glad your son is feeling better. Hope he continues on the path to recovery.

Linda - loved the pictures of the moose. How cool would that be to see them. No moose here in Iowa, only deer.

We would love to cruise for longer than a 7 day, but I'm afraid that our bar bill would be a little high. :lmao: I think going through the panama canal would be soooooo cool. Also, do you think Disney will ever go to Alaska? That would be awesome.

We are staying at BVC also, I have already made arrangement for DCL transportation

Just wanted to say, sad day today, :sad1: cuz it was my grandpa's funeral. I will miss him very much, as will we all. But I just want to give a shout out to my DH because I am very proud of him. My Grandpa served in WWII, and was a retiree of the Iowa National Guard of 30 years. My DH also served with the Guard for 26 years, retiring in 2006, and in grandpa's honor he wore his dress blues today while serving as one of the pall bearer's on my behalf, because it was grandsons and grandsons-in-law. He not only honored Grandpa, but made my uncles cry, and my mom very proud because they knew Grandpa would have been so happy to see my DH that way. Which, my DH is very private about his military career. And to have him share that with my family, it meant so much to me.

So, thank you to DH so very much. Grandpa would be proud!

This brought tears to my eyes. I know what you mean about your DH being very private about his military career...my DH is always asked to march in parades to represent the Air Force/Air National Guard...he was in 32 years...and he never does...he is very very private about this and doesn't feel the need to boast...but he did wear his dress blues to two weddings, one his sister and the other to walk DD down the aisle, at her request.

I can imagine your family's pride at seeing your DH in his uniform. And so wonderful that he represented you. What a lasting tribute to your grandpa.

That would be great Susan. I'll check into the cost of transportation for the four of us. If anyone else would like to join us, just let me know and we can increase the size of the vehicle and hopefully everyone saves money $$$$

That sounds like Tom and I. One of our many trips to WDW, Tom and I went into It's Tough to be a Bug! If anyone has never done this at the Animal Kingdom, I won't spoil the fun. When DH and I left, we both said we needed to our Dson in there for the surprise! lol

He was probably 16 or 17 and he usually went to the parks with the many friends we brought to WDW. That's one of the reasons why we bought DVC. It"s great to enjoy it with "family" and friends. Any way back to our "trickery". Of course we couldn't wait to see his reactions. I wish we had a camera with us because it was priceless. :rotfl2:

Now when we bring up AK & It's Tough to be a Bug, he will call us JERKS (and some times he will call us something else). I'm still glad we did it. lol

Thanks Flo - and again, I can't wait to meet you. And yes, that is just a wonderful thing DH did for me. I just love him to pieces.

Susan - sorry to bring tears to your eyes but the patriotic thing is something I don't think anyone can really understand unless you are in it. And many thanks to your DH for his service to this country. And to any other out there, THANK YOU. If it weren't for them, where would we be. Thank you again for such kind words. And I can't wait to meet you, either.

:grouphug:Oh my gosh! That was a great tribute to do. I too had tears in my eyes. It is very difficult to deal with sometimes but I'm sure you have a group here that will listen as well as your family, friends, etc. :grouphug:

I'm going to contact Disney transportation as well as a few other places that were recommended by other DISmembers. If in the end, it is cheaper to use Disney we will but will call tomorrow any way. Annmarie

Chris,
That was a wonderful tribute that your DH paid to your grandpa! I can only image how proud you must have been. Those who have experienced a funeral for a veteran can appreciate how overwhelming the feelings can be. When they played taps and folded the flag over my dad's casket (also a WWII vet) it was a moment I will never forget.

And kudos to you for giving your DH a shout out. We sometimes overlook the great things our spouses do for us, so it was really nice that you shared that moment with all of us! Thanks. :)

PS - yes, I hope DCL does Alaskan cruises when the new ships come in!
