09/08/07 Early Check in September 8, 2007 Western

:welcome: S.S.Oceanlover...

Glad you booked this one, you'll have alot of fun on this cruise.
Have you looked at all the excurtions as of yet? How about picking a night at Palo's? Please dont hesitate in asking questions... we'll all be happy to answer all your concerns.
So ... how many in your party? Kids included?
Do you have early or late dining?

Anyway... welcome again S.S.Oceanlover

Ann

Didn't get my confirmation yet but we usually do early dinner.

No excursions for us. In Key West we will probably go to Mel Fishers Museum and the Blonde Giraffe for some Key Lime pie.

Cozumel will be hopping into a taxi and going to Mr. Sanchos for the day.

Grand Cayman we will probably be staying on the ship and Castaway Cay will head over to Serenity Bay.

No kiddies coming on this trip. Son will just be starting college so it will be our first cruise alone since 1993.

Taking wife for her birthday. As mentioned earlier we were booked on the Liberty of the Seas but after she watched the Disney ships on the travel channel on Sunday she wanted to switch.

Just had to be a total pest and shout out that my wedding is 150 days away! (Obviously we're taking the "official" honeymoon a week later)

Congrats McDuck, the wedding day will be here before you know it! And while you are spending your honeymoon on the cruise (which is totally awesome may I add) We are celebrating our 10 years on the cruise. We are all gonna have so much fun. I can hardly wait! Congrats to you!!!!

Here is the list of ideas of things from the entire thread. For those of you on the cruise on the 15th I am working on compiling that as well, there is a lot more there for that, than for this cruise.

Hi Bill...

We've done alot of cruising and none have involved our chldren!:lmao:
I do have to add that our DD and DSIL will be joinging us on our middle cruise, of the 15th. We'll give them the grand tour the first day and off we go to hide! They're big kids they can fend for themselves. He better... he's a ::cop:

Ann

we are going on another cruise in june on Carnival with my son and his girlfriend. We'll be going to Grnd cayman on that one too so that's why we are just going to stay on the ship in September.

This will be our 14th cruise and have been to the Caymans many times so not much left to see. If we weren't tendering we'd probably get off but too much of a hassle.

Thanks for posting this information. I know the folks on the 15th have more planned. If you are going to make a list for them maybe you could post it for us. We might want to steal an idea or two. Why waste time coming up with new ideas if there are good ones all ready to go. It is just a thought I don't think they would have an issue with it. Lois

I am sure that Tulum is what I am going to do on Coz. We went to Nashville for the weekend. That is were I had some tours through some historical sights that spiked some hairs.. Tulum may do the same.
OH.. I also relized that being the wife of a pairite head I have to take her to Margarita Ville on Grand Cam.

Sorry if I missed anyone who is cruising. I just cut and pasted someone else's list from one of the post's. So if you weren't there it wasn't in that initial list. You will be added if I know you are missing.

Here is the list of things which have been mentioned on the other cruise, they may or may not be happening. We don't have to do these, they are just possibilities depending on the interests of the group.

Fish Extender
The purpose of the fish extender is to hold all the goodies that your fellow DIS cruisers may deliver to your stateroom. There is also a contest for decorating your fish extender. It is all voluntary of course. You can participate as much or as little as you want. The 11 day southern group is really large. I would guess that at least 20 of the staterooms have been on multiple cruises together over several years. There are about 90 - 100 staterooms on the roster, both newbies and veterans. Even though Lamar and I have been on seven other DCL cruises, this is the first time we have chosen to participate in most of the festivities. We are even going diving at Epcot after the cruise as one of the post cruise activities. You can visit post #5 of the 11 night thread to see all the pre, during and post festivities that my fellow DIS cruisers and I are lining up. All kinds of great info there about the 11 night trip if you're curious

No problem on the measurements. The overall hanging length is 32'' . The finished fabric length is approx. 26" . It is 8" wide. The dowel is a 1/2" dowel 10'' long. There is a rod pocket at the top for the dowel to slide through. The hanging cord is aprox. 13'' long and there are holes drilled through the dowel for the cord to be threaded and knotted. Use a wire tie or something else to tie the Fish extender to the fish in order to keep it attached.

I have seen alot of variations on the fish extender. One looked like a baseball bat and glove. One had fabric handprints for pockets. All were really cute. Mine was made by Carol and Doug Screenname "Parhumpgirl". They made over 100 of them. Each fish extender was personalized and decorated by the owner. (I did ours with scrapbook supplies mostly.) This was their generous gift to all of us. If you have more questions about how to make one they are the experts. Debbie Screenname "Epcotkilterfan" is the one who came up with the whole fish extender idea. I think it was on the Panama Canal cruise? She bought them at a chain store. You can purchase them on e-bay from what I have been told. This is about the extent of my knowledge on fish extenders.

As for the fish extender gifts, we sailed with a DISclaimer, we know that for some families this may be a once in a lifetime trip. And finances could be really tight. No one kept track of who was leaving gifts and who was not. It just sort of happened. We didn't want anyone left out. Most of the gifts were signed with a greeting i.e. happy sailing from the xxxxx family. Some of the gifts were not signed. Low cost trinkets galore. The costs seemed to range from under a dollar to several. Mostly, they were fun! Some were downright practical. ( a rigid clear plastic expandable folder to keep your navigators and other save papers in.)

How many cruisers will we have? I guess that depends somewhat on us! How much fun we want to have and how many people feel comfortable joining in. Our 11 day group was large due to the "Special Cruise" aspect. Many of the people had cruised together before and booked the 11 together. They will also be doing the Med cruises together. Some have known each other for years.

Secret Mickey Gift Exchange

Here is how it works:

There are adult and children catagories. Adult to adult. Child to child. Female to female. Male to male.

There is a dollar limit set. Total amount spent should not exceed set limit.
On a seven night cruise I think 3 or 4 gifts is a good number.

Participation is completely voluntary. Secret Mickey is randomly selected from participants. You cannot request a particular person. Two weeks before sailing you are assigned your Secret Mickey so you can start shopping.

When we get closer to the sailing date I will ask for PM's from those people that want to participate and ask a series of questions that will help your Secret Mickey select gifts for you.

We will decide on a time and place for the Secret Mickey reveal where you can find out who your Secret Mickey is and thank them personally. Lot's of fun.

Celebration Party
I am thinking we may need to keep a list of what everyone is celebrating and have a party. One that would honor each person and or couple. What does everyone else think? We have several anniversaries already. I bet that there would be at least a few birthdays on or around this cruise. There could be other reasons to celebrate as well. Let me know.

Ann... You'll love Tulum ! It was so breath taking. Are you going to swimming there too? We didnt... I didnt want to sit in a salty wet suit for a few hours!:scared:
I have on my wish list.. the jeep expedition for the first trip to Cozumel and we have on the second the speed boat/beach thingy.

Man... this cruise is going to be GREAT!

I believe I was the one who listed the list of cruiser first. I got the list from the thread. It will show all who have posted and gives a post count. For those who were not on the list it was because you joined us after I posted the list. I will go back and see if I can find the thread and get a current list. Lois

I know I have pulled the list before but I couldn't do it tonight. May just be too early in the morning. I will try later so that no one is forgotten. I also started a data base that I need to add some of the new folk too and once I get that up dated I can post that list as well. Maybe it is near time to add dining times and state room numbers (For those who care to) to the list and post those in the first post? Is there any other information folks would feel comfortable aboput sharing to help us get to know each other. Like first names, anniveracry date, birthdates, kids names and ages at time of cruise. Let me know I will add it to the data base and find a way to post it. I have found that posting e-mail addresses can be riskey and it is better to PM each other and share e-mail that way if you should desire. I will get to this ASAP Possible but it won't be this week-end as I have my DFIL and Step MIL coming for the week-end. Lois

Anyone else interested in doing the linked dining. Not sure how to set it up but we could put all of us in the same dining room. Well at least all that have early together and all who have late together. Not sure how to set it up but I do know that it can be done. I already have three of us set up for the early. That is my sister and our two friends from KC. I can't think of anything more and I really need to try to go back to sleep. If you know what I mean. Lois

Unfortunately, we had to postpone and will probably go in 2010... but, by then DS will be 3 and we will have more options avaliable to us.
