Too Funny! :lmao:

We were on the cruise that the Magic actually did have a fire in the smoke stack and we were called to our muster station at 4AM.

Did anyone show up in the buff?!?! :scared1:

Which part?

I sleep in my "tighty - whities", and will be coming aboard with some rented lenses for my camera. I'm excited about that ;)

I know what drawers are!! It was the lense talk that lost me!!

Brack, Dennis bought his Canon 40D. :rolleyes1

Cool :thumbsup2

I actually held a Canon EOS1d when a news photographer came to the Kettle Kickoff. We talked a bit about cameras and he let me hold his EOS1d

The really sad thing about that night is that I had food poisoning from eating ashore the day before so I remember very little .... except the inside of the wine bucket in Animator's Palate.

Thanks everyone about the jeans. We will be wearing them on the plane as we are leaving a colder climate with silky long johns under them and long sleeve tops so we do not have to bring heavy coats - only a light coat or sweater. We will be at the parks several 2 days before the cruise and everything I have heard says that weather in Orlando in December can be warm one day and cold the next! The jeans I will be bringing are nicer jeans - which are light weight jeans - not heavy regular jeans so they should not take up so much room.

Thanks again!

So, Jason...YOU do the Thanksgiving cooking at your house??? Gravy, whipped potatoes and all?

Yup. My 2 BIL's help me out, but I have to get everything started. For example I'll save the cheese and sausage platter for them, and when the potatoes are ready, I'll have one of them whip them up while I'm checking or carving the birds. This year was great, I used the food mill my wife bought me for my birthday to mash the potatoes. They turned out soooooooo good, not at all like paste that one gets with a mixer or stand mixer.

The deep fried turkey was delicious, and all 19 lbs of it was gone faster than I could get back up for seconds. I like to cook and so do both my BIL's. Last year my DW's Sister's hubby and I did the cooking for our annual Jimmy Buffet concert. We grilled kabobs' and I grilled some plantains and wonton wrappers basted in butter and coconut. We had more fun than ever just setting up two grills and going to town. We're already planning for next year. Talking about Banana's Foster and Deep Fried Ice Cream :)

Thankfully my DW and her sister and even their mother came in and did dishes for us men :)

Brack, Dennis bought his Canon 40D. :rolleyes1

Oh nice. I'm going to ask to see it during the cruise! I'm getting close to 10k worth of pictures out of my Rebel XT... it's about time to upgrade :)

Well, I am impressed. The grilling I can see my guys doing, but not whipped potatoes, yams, etc, etc.

DrHug really, really, really wanted the 5D, but because his wife does not love him quite that much :rolleyes1 he had to settle. :lmao: He does have the EOS10D and the "old" EOS1, AE1 and T50 as well. I am not sure how many he plans on bringing, but I do know that I could not lift his camera backpack! :sad2: I have told him I am NOT hauling that big bag around for him! His famous line is "Hon, can you hold this a minute while I shoot this photo?" An hour later I realize I am still "holding" this! :lmao: Thus our big bag jokes! ;)

We wear our jeans and a sweatshirt both ways on the plane also. Pack them away once we head out of Port Canaveral and put on the summer clothes! :woohoo: :woohoo:

I sleep in my "drawers" year round. I'll do the same on the cruise. :lmao:

I just got an email from the lens rental place, I should be receiving my reserved lenses on Thursday or Friday. I can't wait to play with the new glass. I've got a 10-22mm and a 300 f/4 prime for my Rebel XT. I plan on spending a couple of days learning them both.

hey maybe my hubby will have some people to talk to! he just bought a Nikon D40 DSLR that he now needs (wants) the zoom lens for - he actually bought it for me for Christmas but has decided to keep it for himself (I told him to - he deserves it) but he is still learning so maybe some of you that are into these can help him some with some "tips"

I think I am really having a problem with packing clothes that will be cool/summery on a Christmas cruise! The other time we cruised it was in April and I took all spring clothes. I am trying . . . unpacking things . . . and I am trying really really hard not to overpack this time - we will send clothes out.

I am determined to pack light this time also. I am going to try to get everything for me into one duffle. :thumbsup2

I just checked the Hyatt online and the price had gone down for our date. :woohoo:

Not by bunches, but hey... $27 is $27... and that's more drinks of the day! :thumbsup2

Anyone else booked at the Hyatt may want to recheck rates. I've been checking every week or so. I just canceled the old reservation and rebooked for the new rate. :)

Have previously had no interest in DLP but it sounds so...do-able, and less overwhelming that WDW.

Yes, its much less overwhelming than WDW or even DLP. There's a train station right at the entrance to Disney Village, so you can easily take the train to and from downtown. We passed Charles De Gaulle airport on the way home, and it's not too far away. I'm not sure if you could take the train straight from the airport or if you'd need to change trains. But once you get there you are definitely in Disney. Some of the rides have names in French, and the shows are in French and English. Hearing Mickey speak French was hilarious. "Oh Don-NALL!"

DLRP is on my list of places to see when I finally make it to Europe!
Beth

Oh definitely! And it can even be less expensive to stay at Disney and take the train into town to sightsee, than to stay downtown!

Same with us, if you have an extra we will gladly buy it.

Okay, you and Brack are at the top of the list! :thumbsup2

Maybe we should look into Disneyland Paris for next year instead of Disneyland California.

It might be around the same price. The new attractions at the Studios should both be open by March '08.

So will I ask here do you all think we will feel totally out of place wearing nice jeans and Christmas sweaters to one of the casual night dinners?

Krisann, I've been cruising for over 25 years now. And this will be my 20th cruise - only 4th on DCL. I think your outfits sound wonderful! A family cruise in today's world is much different than say a Royal Viking Cruise Line sailing 20 years ago.

IMHO jeans are always okay and embarkation evening and the last night - due to the logistics of packing and unpacking. Kids can wear jeans anytime - formal night might be pushing it, but I sure wouldn't someone to stress over paying for formal attire for their kids if it would be a hardship. In my book, tasteful is much more important than the fabric the clothes happen to be made of.

On our first Disney cruise, there was a Mom who showed up at the character breakfast wearing a white jogbra and short nylon shorts - yup backfat and cellulite everywhere. :scared1: And to make matters worse, she was running all over the dining room taking pictures of the characters - instead of just waiting for them to come to her table. :sad2:

I have a question too. I'm wondering how cosy the staterooms are...I'm guessing they might be stuffy so we'd want to carry summer-weight jammies. OTOH, maye it's a situation where the AC makes it cool? :confused3

You can control your stateroom temperature. We usually bring summer jammies, because they take up less space. Just remember there's a Goofy PJ party for the 5-7 year olds, so you'll want to plan ahead so you're not doing laundry one afternoon to make sure the kids have their favorite PJs for the party. :laundy:

DH and I wear jeans to dinner on casual nights. We don't feel out of place at all. I don't understand why people on the main board get so uptight about this.:confused3 DCL says that jeans are acceptable so wear them and don't worry about what others think.:goodvibes

Exactly! ::yes::

Sure, I'm still learning a lot myself, but I'd be glad to talk "shop". I'm sure Brack and Mr Hug would as well.

Hello everyone,

I can't believe I have been away for over 24 hours.:scared1:

The days leading up to our cruise are really scaring me. Before we leave I am helping my mom buy a new house and move. She is coming on the cruise as well and wants everything moved by the time we leave. We have the final walk through this morining. Then more packing tonight. Then the two hour drive home, kids in shcool tomorrow while I do the last cleaning at the big house. Then back to my mom's house (2 hour drive) for more packing. We also have a scout activity (4 hours), a Christmas parade, employee Christmas party, and the actual move. I still have to pack and make door signs. :sad2: OH, I haven't purchased any Christmas presents.

It will all be fine. I may be doing a lot of laundry on the ship. I do not plan on packing much this year. I already told everyone...ONE BAG!

Now to finish cleaning up last nights mess. My DH invited 20 people up for dinner at the last minute yesterday.

I need this vacation!

The Nikon D40's a great camera! :thumbsup2 I recently was buying my first DSLR and I had to decide between that one and the Pentax K100D. I ended up going with the Pentax because of price difference and I heard such great reviews from some over on the DISPhoto board. I ended up getting the K100D with the 18-55mm lens, the 50mm f/1.4 prime, and the tamron 75-300mm zoom lens. Add to that a tripod, 6Gb worth of memory, a camera case, and a case for my tripod, and Photoshop Elements 5.0 and I'm just about ready I think!! :lmao:
