08 DEC 2007 - 7 Day Eastern Magic Part 4

I am disappointed with my cruise pictures. I guess I will have to join the rest of the world (and my husband) and go digital. I think x-rays, both at airports and re-entering the ship may be to blame. O'Hare gave us a hard time leaving Chicago with my film in the lead film bag and so did Orlando.
So, any recomendations on a nice and easy digital camera? My husband has a Nikon Cool Pix 775 and he likes it. I don't like it because it does not make any sound when a picture is taken so I am never sure. I want something that makes a click.

Congrats on the new computer...

Beth did you see this post?? http://www.disboards.com/showpost.php?p=22242649&postcount=17383

Tell Jim to try it and to come on in!! The water is fine :rotfl2:

Any Vista questions please feel free to pm or email me :)

Yup, saw that post and pointed it out to Jim. He says he will post as soon as Julie posts a picture of the "official DIS soup":rotfl:!

The new computer is running like a charm! All of my programs seem to function properly, which was a bit of a worry since some of my graphics software is a couple of years old. I don't have it hooked up to the internet yet because I still have to get the other one out of the cabinet and get the new one in there. That's a project for tomorrow when I'm slightly more wide awake. Vista seems a little odd, but once I figured out how to shut it down I was feeling much better about it;).

Now I have to go and take care of my granddaughter. She seems to be the first one (and hopefully the only one) in the family to get the norovirus. Of course, it's Christmas week, and it looks like we'll uphold the family tradition of all being sick for the holiday! And I just finally got over my cold:sad2:.

Have a good night, everybody, and by the time I post tomorrow I should be posting from the new computer if that whole hookup goes well. DS usually helps me with these things, but he's working the overnight shift this week and then going to his MIL's holiday party if the little one is feeling better, so I'll be on my own with the technical stuff!

That should be a setting with the camera.

I find it funny that some of you have me confused with someone else entirely. It makes no sense. Imagine that two people have a similar experience and also have four year old kids. Amazing they get labeled a troll because they have a bad experience and share it.

Another has a bad experience and just goes on like it is ok. No wonder I didn't join in on the reindeer games since it seems like such an exclusive club.

We all do have this same experience though and I will keep talking about it for as long as I can. There was a few gems.

On to the next Post cruise pirate.

:yay: Again..

As MANY of you may have noticed, there has been some clean up done.

Yes there is an ignore feature. You don't have to have a discussion of it to stir any pots. I think we can all agree this is happening...Please please please, just PM each other if you feel the need to discuss things like this. I am not saying anybody is wrong or right in their feelings, but when there is hostility involved it takes very little to get things going again.

You seem like a great bunch of people, and I don't want to shut this thread down, but it may happen. So please guys, just abide by the rules.:grouphug: :flower3:

So sorry, Mommasita. I do love this Board, but somehow on this thread I just keep getting sucked in. I don't know if this is something the Webmaster can fix, but the ignore feature does not work when someone quotes the ignored person. I will refrain from here on though. I do want to stay in touch with the wonderful folks on this thread, but I think we may as you said need to do that thru PMs. This is sad. Friends, feel free to PM me anytime, or drop in on other threads that I am active on and say howdy. I am going to sign off of this thread.

Beth

I didn't take a picture of the soup!! :lmao: I think Merryl did though! :thumbsup2

Hi everyone! I still haven't made it through but clicked on a few things to reply...

Emi,
I wanted to tell you I saw you running between the stores in your dress and you looked absolutely beatiful, I would have stopped to talk but you looked like you were in a hurry...:thumbsup2

First, Stefanie, I'm so sorry I didn't get to meet you and your boys! :( And Emi, we did the galley tour on Thursday and saw the chef doing your cake!! There were two that day apparently. It was so sweet with the bride and groom Mickey and Minnie, though from the photos you guys were even cuter!

She will be dealing with it today. We got home late Saturday night and she stayed at her brother's house. I have not talked with them since leaving the airport Sat. night, but I believe they stayed at my sister's last night. Today will be a rough one for her and her family, seeing the devastation is so hard. Thank you for keeping her in your thoughts and prayers.

Very sorry to hear about this Angie. Wishing them the best.

Also sorry to hear about your dh, Krisann, and hoping he's fully recovered. (Still have some reading to do, maybe you've posted about this.) Jennifer, I cringed and laughed about dd in the show...the year ds was...2 I think...he threw up over 3 rows of seats at Easter Sunday morning mass. What can you do?? We can laugh about it NOW...

Randy found out he got promoted today (his first day back) but I found out I have mandatory 6 day work weeks starting January  So we have to wait and see if we can get the time off. :guilty:

Congrats to Randy! He's having a good month! ;)

We got back around suppertime tonight. After the cruise we spent 4 nts on Sanibel Is. Fl, then a night in Orlando pre-flight, and then two nights at SIL's to do dh's Christmas family thing on the way home. No Christmas tree, few groceries, but I only have two bags left to unpack! :cool1: (Plus a million loads of laundry...ho ho ho, there's my Santa sack...) Kids are asleep in their own beds, and I'm for it soon.

The secret Santa was sooo much fun, thanks for those who organized it. My kids loved it, both "ends". Unfortunately they didn't love the clubs, and though we got a few good hours for ourselves, we always felt guilty leaving them. I think it was just so busy in there. The ratio may be good relative to other lines/resorts (which I don't doubt) but for the most part, that just didn't pan out for us. We did love the character things, the pirate thing, the Christmas stuff...The thing that would really get me to re-book was Castaway Cay, that was such a great day; everything you want from a beach with no effort. Jennifer, we loved having you join us too; dh was saying on the (long) drive home, "who was that nice couple from Texas again...?" :goodvibes

I've also said I'm not re-booking until I'm willing to pay for an outside cabin. I thought the cabin was super efficient, but for the first few days, I felt like I was in Las Vegas--you know how they try to keep you from ever seeing the sun? It was all dark interiors (none of the main restaurants are very bright, or the kids' clubs, lots of places) except when we were actually at the pool, and there was so much to do "inside"...our own choice, but it was a little weird! And I found it a really noisy place. We switched from early to late dining after 3 days, and found that much improved, but the noise in the dining rooms was stressing me out. Maybe I am insufficiently communal; I enjoyed the activities, loved having a "proper" dinner every night, but with 4 of us in that cat 11, I had no "down time". But it was our first cruise and I know I've learned lots--like how to get to the "secret deck" (thanks Angie).

Now, after we switched to late dining, there was a dis family behind us, part of a larger party I think, but not Angie's crowd. There was a little girl about 7 or 8 with beautiful thick brunette hair. I wish we'd met you! Dh told me she had been sitting with our ds at the club one day and they seemed well-suited. Oh well, opportunities missed. When we moved dining we got Toney and Elzbieta for servers and they were amazing. (Our first crew was...less so.) The second night with them, I couldn't believe it, the kids ordered steak and before I could think about letting my own food go cold:rolleyes: , they had taken over cutting up my kids' meat for them!!

Anyway, it's 1:30 here and it's been a long day, with more to follow as we try to catch the Christmas train before it pulls out of the station...just wanted to check in and say "HI!" to everybody! Will try to catch up for real over the next few days.

:wave2:

We're back! :thumbsup2

Just arrived home about an hour ago and do not have time to post much yet but I will soon.

I have read all of the posts since I left for the cruise and some made me :sad2:

Later.

Oh, I just wanted to post a little about our servers now that I see it's been discussed! Our original guys TOTALLY wanted to go with a script, would've loved us to be more predictable, but we are the opposite and don't like having "assumptions" made. (Even the kids don't always have the same thing, though milk for ds is a fairly safe bet.) The guy KEPT hovering with the ketchup bottle, wanted to do a Mickey for the kids I think but we told him over and over, they don't like ketchup!! :rotfl: OTOH, ds took a shine to burgers from the kids' menu and he likes them with mustard...two nights in a row it took 3 attempts to get PLAIN YELLOW MUSTARD. Dijon? NO. Honey mustard? NO. YELLOW. YELL-OW. (Of course by then ds's food was cold. And then we performed the exact same 3-act play the next night, same cast, different venue...) We learned on the galley tour that if it's not on the line they have to send someone elsewhere if there's time, but we very specifically asked for yellow, just bring it or tell us you can't! It ended up being funny. When we asked Toney on our first night with him it was kinda a test ;) ...he thought hard about how he could do it, explained why it might not be possible, but then managed it anyway. :yay: The first guys were trying, but it was just a really bad fit, and I think their hearts weren't really into serving kids. Dh and I dithered about changing, felt we were being too picky, but I am soooo glad we did. A lesson to me not to suffer in silence. Toney and Elzbieta totally turned around our dining room experience. It also helped to have the less crowded, less rushed, later seating. So. There's one of our biggest "learning experiences" from this cruise. :teacher:

Ok, really to bed now...

I agree I don't want our thread to end.. We need this thread.. I think I'd be lost without it.. :scared:

I know this is off the path of this board but had a quick question. If you buy a 3-day pass for the parks and then want to upgrade to a yearly pass is there a time limit? I thought it was 30 days but a friend was telling me different. I am a little tired of calling disney and going through the voice prompts and thought 1 of y'all could help. :confused3

If you booked a cruise while on board can you transfer that booking over to a travel agent to get a better rate? :confused3

Ok, really to bed now...

I too feel that the later seating is better for us:) . I find however the service is different. I don't mean worse or better just a bit different. We had done an early seating one cruise and then decided one night we wanted late so we were able to change. The atmosphere did seem more relaxed but the servers seemed a bit preoccupied. We had late on this last cruise and our servers were always up to something else (not just the other tables). :confused3

The other thing about late dinners especially after the 2nd-3rd day is to make sure you get snacks (pepperoni pizza was really good:woohoo: ) so that your tummy is always full as it should be at all times.

Thanks ...... though it be strange and trying sometimes; there's no place like home

We booked our next cruise onboard .... 1/3/09 :thumbsup2

LOL, no problem there! The kids were always wanting the "kid" food on deck 9, so the late seating worked better for us there too. We could have a snack during the afternoon without fear of "ruining" our dinners. And for us, the early shows seemed easy, too. Yes, it's a question of fit. I talked to a couple of parents of really little ones who were self-conscious about the noise their kids made, and were happy of the noise at 5:00.

My understanding is that you have to upgrade your ticket within 14 days of purchase. Check the back of the ticket, there might be some tiny, tiny print that explains it.

Yes, if you transfer a 2009 cruise to Dreams Unlimited before the end of the year, then they'll give you double the usual amount of shipboard credit!
