Hello! I promised excursion reviews over on the FB page...so I thought I would share what I wrote up here too. I just sailed the Fantasy 10/12 and can't wait to go back!! Loved it!! Anyway, if you are on FB, this is the same review...so please ignore, but I know there are some who don't like FB, so this is for you if you are interested.
Well, I promised excursion reviews after I returned but life has been crazy since we got home! So here goes my first review! In Grand Cayman, we did the Dolphin Encounter and Turtle Farm through
DCL. We met up in D Lounge, where we got instructions and character stickers. They told us here that if we wanted to wear sunscreen, to put it on now, or not until after the dolphin adventure. They had towels for you to take with you. Then we took the tender boats to the pier and went to the meet point. Here we got armbands, indicating which adventure we had, and one for the turtle farm. Then we took a bus to Dolphin Discovery and they showed us where the bathrooms and lockers were. The lockers are free and you have to leave everything, including cameras and jewelry, while you are in with the dolphins. You get a lifejacket and then get divided into groups. There were 6 in my family and 2 other people in the group for a total of 8. I think we had a smaller than normal group. My kids are 6 and 10, and my 6 year old is a little short. She did ok, but I had to keep ahold of her, because with the life jacket on, she couldn't keep her feet on the platform...she kept floating off. We got in the water with one dolphin and a trainer. There is a photographer there, snapping photos of the dolphin leaping into the air, as well as all the tricks he or she does with you. The trainer will go down the line and let each person do each trick with the dolphin, and get pictures. You get many opportunities to pet the dolphin, and the trainer spends the whole time talking about dolphins, teaching you about them. It was very interesting, and such an amazing experience! After you are done with the dolphin, you can go into the shop to see your pictures. I was a sucker, and bought the CD with all the pictures, for $300. I think the price is based on how many are in your party. I had intended to haggle with them, as I've heard they will accept less, but DH wasn't helping me...just said, "oh, you've got to get them!". I also got a print out of 1 picture of each of us. There were 169 pictures of us and the dolphin...so, high, but for an experience my parents will never get again, probably still worth it. Now we are starving, and also running out of time, so we run out to the little café, grab some hot dogs and sandwiches, eat quickly, and run across the street to see the turtles. There are a few areas, the big breeding pond, some smaller tanks with large turtles, and then the tanks with the small turtles that you can hold. This was probably my favorite. They are fast though...so very hard to catch! But a guy standing next to me caught one and after he held it, he handed it over to me so I could have a turn. I let me son hold it, then let him go since I didn't want to keep him out of the water too long. Then I caught another for my daughter to hold. Then we went over to the wading tank for the kids. They could go in with the turtles, and catch them on their own. It was so cool! Time was running out, so we headed back to catch the bus. My husband, dad and kids all headed back to the ship, but my mom and I checked out a couple little stores. Grand Cayman is the only place you can legally buy anything made with black coral, so we bought a few nice souvenirs to bring home. Sorry this ended up so long! Feel free to let me know...is this too many details? Ask any questions you have. Maybe I should take up writing trip reports! LOL!
