04/27/11 DCL's WONDERful LA-VANCOUVER REPO ON THE WAY TO ALAKSA

Hi Elaine

I just realized that Shari and I will be at WDW on my birthday. Can you give me any details about the gift card - like where you could use it and what you could use on?

Thanks
Ken P.

Hi Ken

You have to go here to register your birthday.....

http://disneyparks.disney.go.com/di...ouCelebrate/index?name=FreeOnYourBirthdayPage

...and if you already have a multi day ticket to WDW (I think you do)....you take your birthday certificate that you print from the web site along with proof of your birthday (passport, etc)....and your multi day ticket to the "birthday" guest relations window at one of the theme parks and you can select from a few different options - fastpasses, a one day ticket for future use or the gift card.

We got Mom's birthday fun card at Animal Kingdom and she used it on merchandise in the Animal Kingdom and at the AKL. I think you can use it anywhere that accepts the Disney Gift card. I know we got an instruction sheet with the gift card but I can't seem to locate it right now because everything is everywhere in our home because of the flood....I think once you register your birthday it will give you a FAQ about what's available.

Have fun at WDW on your birthday.....we are planning a trip to WDW in March 2010 to celebrate my birthday and since Disney won't be giving out the birthday fun cards....Mom said she will buy me a gift card worth $79 for me to "spend"...

He everyone!

We just got back from a birthday trip to Disneyland. Spent one night in a DVC studio at the Grand Californian - very nice. So everyone should look forward to the sleep over in Scotts Grand Villa!!! :lmao:

I will have the Grand Lobby Suite available and booked, just crash where ever so lang as you form a line outside of teh gift shop and say you are waiting for a pin release, :lmao::lmao::lmao:

My sister had her birthday on September 13 (the day we got on the Wonder), we went over to Epcot to the ticket window at 8 a.m. before we headed to the cruise. She had a multi day ticket and she didn't have the stuff printed out from the internet. We showed her driver's license and her multi day ticket and told them we wanted the $79 gift card. (You don't even have to enter the park if you don't want). The card can be used anywhere on WDW property that is Disney owned (so you can't use for ESPN Club, or Dolphin and Swan if you get my drift).

You can't use off property. No good on the cruise, we checked into it and they also told us at Epcot that you can't use at Disneyland either, only WDW. My sister used hers at Downtown Disney at the World of Disney store.

That's what I know.....

Good Morning Cruisers!

We did not get the snow forecast for last night, but it is cold and windy here so far today, hopefully it will warm up a bit so I can get the dogs out for their walk before they go to "puppy camp" (kennel) later today. We will be off tomorrow for WDW, Tower of Terror 13K Race, and Scott's extended birthday celebration! Scott will be sure to update everyone on the gift card after his birthday.

Have a great day all!

That's good to hear. We plan to fly out the Friday or Saturday before the cruise and stay at DL until time to board. It would be nice if Disney would offer some additional transportation options. I've only been to DL once, but quite enjoyed it. We've gone to DW so many times...it will be fun to try something a bit different.

Of course being a state away, we get to see DL almost every year. I think you'll enjoy it. It has a tendency to be a little "underwhelming" if you compare it to the vastness of WDW. You have to see DL for its own charm. We feel that most of the rides are better at DL. They have put virtually all the rides from all 4 parks at WDW into 2 parks at DL! By the time we cruise, there will also be lots of new features at CA. They have a DTD, which is conveniently in a plaza between the two parks. The best part is NO BUSES! You can walk between all 3 hotels, both parks and DTD - it's all connected. They have character meals at all 3 hotels and at Ariel's Grotto in CA.

Oh! this looks like a commercial for Disney - maybe they should send me a commission! :rotfl2:

HAPPY EXTENDED BIRTHDAY SCOTT!!!

I'm new, so a little confused as to when exactly this birthday is, but have fun celebrating!:banana::banana::banana:

Thanks Elaine, Linda and Scott for the birthday gift card info. We will be getting to one of the parks right before closing, so it's nice to know that the cards are good at other places.

We LOVE DL. :lovestruc It has a personal charm that WDW just can't have due to it's size. We too think the rides are better (Pirates... Indiana Jones...) We love it at Christmas time when they "redo" It's a Small World and The Haunted Mansion. It's just so magical. :wizard: Only one more year and some months to go before we can visit again!!! Sleeping Beauty is my favorite animated Disney film. I really want to go up in the castle. Do they still have the walk through with the scenes from the movie? :confused3

And... YES! You should get a commission!!! :thumbsup2

So, never having been to DL, I'm wondering how many days we should devote to the parks? We're coming to CA early (and it WILL be Easter weekend, so I'm imagining big crowds?)

Yes, they do have the movie scenes. The castle here is pretty much a facade. They haven't done the Cinderella suite or anything like that. The special suite they made last year is near POC in New Orleans square. I wonder who gets to stay there now? :confused3

Don't forget to go over to Pirate's Lair on Tom Sawyer Island!

We usually plan on 3 days in the parks. You can get a park hopper and walk back and forth between the parks. Hint about FP, the two systems are not connected, so you can get a FP in DL, then head over to CA and get a FP for Soarin' without the usual wait time. If you go on Sat or Sun, expect the crowds to be huge in the afternoon, so get there early. We like to do the same thing at DL as WDW - get there early and take an afternoon break.

There are lots of off-site hotels/motels very close with shuttles, too. Also, April can be rainy and chilly in the LA area, so think about dressing in layers. I guess you'll be prepared, because SF and Canada will be that way too!

There is a new plaza walking distance from CA, Gardenwalk, which is a shopping/restaurant area - really nice - with a Movie Theatre and I saw that there will be a Disney Store there, too. PF Changs, California Pizza Kitchen (this is not really like pizza YUMMY), Cheesecake Factory

Hope this helps.:3dglasses

I've been staying in Boise with my hubby who's stationed here temp in the Air Guard, but I'm off to Oregon today - heading to the coast this weekend. I'll check back in on Monday - have a great weekend, cruisers!

Plus at DL you can do the single rider on Soarin and basically just walk right on the ride, so that's what we always do. Head back to California Screamin', get fass passes and then head to Soarin to the single rider line. Then the fast pass time is usually perfect....
