I have always loved listening to movie themes - I can listen to them for hours. John Williams is my most absolute favorite composer and his music never fails to make smile and sometimes shed a tear. I hear the music from Superman and instantly think about how my Grandma took me to see this at the movie theater that had rocking chairs (that was a big deal back then). I hear the music from E.T. and get chocked up and emotional - hearing E.T. point to Elliot’s heart and say, ā€œI’ll be right here.ā€ along with the music makes cry every single time. I hear the music from Jurassic Park and think about how I took my brother to see it and how we could hardly wait to return to the theater to see it again. I can go on and on about the wonderful memories I have from movies that have John Williams music - he has been a huge part of my life.

Last night I watched Music By John Williams on Disney+ and it was a wonderful documentary - I was sad when it was over. This was made by Ron Howard and Stephen Spielberg, so it is very well done. If you enjoy music and movies like I do, please take the time to watch it. If you don’t give music in movies much thought, please watch it - you’ll probably enjoy it too.

I started this the other night. It looks like it's going to be really good.

There are many great movie composers, but John Williams has always been my #1 favorite.

One of my favorite Christmas gifts when I was 13 years old was the "Spielberg-Williams Collaboration" album (which I had specifically asked for)

I haven't watched this documentary yet, but definitely will soon.

I love throwing "John Williams radio" on Amazon music. It plays various movie scores & is great background music.

Thanks for posting, I hadn't heard of this documentary but now will definitely watch it.

Thanks for posting. I plan to watch very soon. it's hard to put into words how much his music meant to me growing up, and still does. Genius. Brilliant. My first J Williams album was The Empire Strikes Back, double album, had this insert with pictures and explanations on how he composed each track. I played that album all day, every day, knew every scratch/skip. It's still my favorite album ever (even more than Thriller!) and favorite SW collectible. Then I got the Raiders album, so awesome, backtracked to Superman, then found cassette of his greatest hits, later Harry Potter, plus all the other Star Wars soundtracks, and so on. So, so, so much extraordinary music and themes over these decades.

My husband really wants to watch it. He says John WIlliams is "the soundtrack to [his] childhood."

Although I'm sure I'll watch with him, I wasn't that interested... but I'm glad to hear your positive review. Hopefully I'll like it too.

I’m going to look for this - I’m sure I’d love it. Thanks for posting about it šŸ™‚

I didn’t know about this - I know I’ll definitely love this. I had a huge movie themes play list on my iPod Nano (that’s really dating me - LOL) and I lost it due to a computer issue back then . I’m definitely going to listen to this. Thank you for posting about it.šŸ™‚

This is so perfectly said, and I most absolutely agree with him. I never thought about John Williams music like that. I just may steal your DH’s quote, because it describes me too šŸ™‚

I mean, just go down the list:

Star Wars
E.T.
Indiana Jones
Jurassic Park
Harry Potter
Jaws
Close Encounters of the Third Kind
Superman
Always (not a well known movie but it's one of the theme songs that plays in the Soarin' queue and it's really great)
Empire of the Sun
Home Alone
Hook
Schindler's List
....etc. etc.

In addition to actual John Williams, the Amazon radio station plays a lot of good stuff:
Pirates of the Caribbean
Lord of the Rings
Batman
Mandalorian
How to Train Your Dragon

I did watch it today - fantastic stuff. What a lifetime of accomplishment. I love how everyone just gushed about him and his work and said they never had any notes - except for George Lucas of course, who sometimes did. Genius meeting genius I suppose. They are all right about oen thing though - all of those films, those enduring franchises, THE single greatest franchise - they would never have been much of anything without Johnny William's music.

I saw the first 3 minutes and I was surrounded by memories. I can't wait to finish it, and I already know I will be sad when it's over, too.

In movies you cannot watch a single movie without hearing John Williams's iconic movie scores and from Indiana Jones to Jurassic Park and Star Wars it's easy to see why John Williams is such an iconic composer and there is simply no doubt about it. One of his excellent and best movie scores is Somewhere In My Memory from Home Alone and if you have a copy of Home Alone's soundtrack listen to Somewhere In My Memory from start to finish and you'll see what a wonderful score it is that brings Home Alone to life so well. Is Always that movie about a guy that was a pilot but dies in a plane crash but his spirit returns to guide a woman who's a pilot too and Always was a remake of a movie called A Guy Named Joe? I never knew that John Williams composed the music for that movie as well

This has been bumped right up my to-watch list. I strongly believe his music is one of the most important factors on which pop culture has endured, and how that intense nostalgia gets triggered. I always say that even though I read the Harry Potter books years before the films came out, it feels as his music wafted out of the pages the first time I opened the Philosopher's Stone. It's so deeply engrained in that story to me.

This is crazy timing! Yesterday my husband and I went to a performance of the Music of John Williams at the College of DuPage. It was absolutely wonderful and the theater was jam packed.I play his CD's in my car-just have such an affinity for his music. For anyone who would like to branch out, look up Voctave on YouTube-they're an acapella singing group and they do a John Williams tribute.
