~ºoº November 27, 2010- Western Magic! ºoº~

Gotcha - I will just have to dream about having to do laundry since I don't know that we will get on a longer cruise than 7 nights. :rotfl2:

Hmmm, so my DW (Donna) was dreaming in front of the washer last night. Odd ... it sounded a LOT like she was complaining! ;-)

:rotfl:

Any way you slice it, I'd rather do laundry on the Wonder, the Magic or the Dream instead of at home!!!

WOO HOO! 11 months from today we'll be on The Magic for the Western Cruise!!! :cheer2:

For our last trip, I had an 18 month countdown, so less than a year will fly by for me!

Happy New Year Everyone!

Just bumping up in case anyone else has booked htis cruise to join our meet thread!

OK, I suppose I can come out of the shadows since it is 2010, (I booked our cuise last May!). I know, it's a sickness. This will be the 4th cruise for my DW and I, (2nd Disney). Our DS's will be 15 and 13 when we sail. We will have some friends joining us for their first DCL experience: DM, DGM and DS, age 12. Hope I got those abbreviations right. Not much better than enjoying a cruise with a first-timer. I tried to figure out if anyone started a fish extender list but I'm not sure if there is one with this group. Anybody know? :cool2:

The person who started the thread was going to be in charge of the FE, but then had to cancel the cruise. I haven't been able to figure out if anyone else took it over either.

This is our 2nd cruise (just went in December) and loved it. Since it's a high of 18 here today, I just keep picturing being at Castaway Cay in 11 months...

Our family is me, DH, and DD and DS who will be almost 9 when we cruise.

We're in the same boat, so to speak. Our 1st Disney cruise was Jan 09 and we talked it up so much a friend of ours decided she wanted to go. It didn't take much to convince us to tag along! It's early enough that we can hopefully put together an FE group. Hate to have those who haven't participated miss out. Even though our boys are getting to the teenage years, they really enjoyed that last time. Of course my DW and I thought it was kinda fun too.:)

Welcome to our group! Glad to hear there will be more teenagers aboard to join my DS (will be 16 then) and DD (will be 14 then). This will be our 4th Disney Cruise but our first 7-nighter so we are excited! We brought friends and first-time cruisers along on the last one in December 09, and they absolutely loved it (joined DVC at our recommendation, too). They don't want to be left out of the fun and are seriously considering joining us again for this longer cruise.

My DS is sports-crazy and spends lots of time playing basketball, ping pong, etc. The teen club was a favorite this last time, also (he said the counselors were awesome on the Wonder!) so there are plenty of things to do for teens. I need to start examining the excursion options--the planning is (almost) the best part!

Sorry, I don't know anything about the FE exchange--we have never participated in that....

I've not checked this thread in some time. Sorry!

We were busy planning our November WDW trip along with our December 3rd Wonder Cruise so this wasn't on my required reading list :).

No one has taken over the FE list. It was really simple when we did it on our December 3rd cruise. We had about 12 or so cabins that we delivered to. One person just volunteered to collect everyone's info via PM and created a spreadsheet. We decided to put a cut-off date of 11/1 for our 12/3 cruise. I'm thinking that we could have the same cut-off date of 11/1 for this cruise as well. That gives people time to make sure and get enough items for everyone.
I'm not the one that organized ours for our last cruise as it was my first FE. But, I don't mind doing it, unless someone else wants to.

I'm so looking forward to going back on a cruise. We had a lot of fun on our last one and it was like vacation after 5 days at WDW with a 12 month old and a almost 4 year old. I'm hoping that Castaway Cay water is less windy (all excursions were canceled when we were there but at least we got to dock). We did have fun and I never knew you could get sand in so many places :confused3.

To answer a question about the laundry--the washers are now High Efficiency. I would recommend using their soap or making sure that you have HE soap so it suds less. They also use your KTTW card so no need to bring quarters. The other good thing is that they give you a very accurate time of how much time is left on your loads (just like my machines at home).

Guess I need to start planning for this cruise. I'm hoping that my 4 year old doesn't outgrow his pirate costume since I know I'll be making my 13 month old a new one this year. I also have to start planning on our t-shirts for this trip. it was so much fun for our boys to have their matching shirts and got us noticed by everyone on the ship.

Mousebrat, if you are able to handle the FE list we will certainly sign up! Even though it's a small part of the cruise, the kids sure enjoy it. They handled all the deliveries AND collecting the goodies! I know it can be confusing to maintain a list like that so you may end up qualifying for some extra goodies from Wisconsin if you volunteer! (Is it working? :rolleyes1)

MinnesotaMouse, how on earth could you stand cruising for LESS than 7 days? It must have been so difficult for you each time you pulled into port to disembark. I do admit we sailed for less than 7 days once. That was 20 years ago when we were on a land & sea package for our honeymoon...3 nights aboard the Big Red Boat and 4 nights at WDW! We were hooked after that. BTW, if your DS or DD want to contact my boys prior to the cruise just let me know and they can PM if they would like. My youngest has actually kept in touch with a couple kids and at least one of the counselors he met on the Magic.

We cruised for less than 7 days because we didn't know any better....plus we must be slow learners because it took three short cruises to figure out we needed MORE!! :) I'll tell my DS about the possibility of contacting your teens sometime before we sail. He is outgoing and makes friends easily. They probably won't hear from my DD, however, because she is kind of shy and the opposite of her brother.

That's funny! Of course any cruise is better than no cruise in my opinion. We just did the western last time so it will be like "deja vu all over again" as they say. If the kids don't communicate prior I'm sure they'll run into each other on the ship. They are very excited about going to the teen club since my oldest decided to stay with his little brother last time and went to Ocean Quest. They loved it, but are really looking forward to the new experience.

--Anything less than seven days is considered a PRACTICE cruise! :lmao:

---We're also booked on the April 2010 TransAtlantic ... I think we're up to over 40 FE cabins. It's not just fun for the kids, but the adults as well. There are many variations on how FE's can be handled, many are dependent upon the quantity of cabins, adults vs children, etc.

I would be glad to handle the coordinating of the FE exchange. Please PM me the following information and I'll start making the list (I have a format from our December cruise)

Your DisBoard Name
The cast members of your group and their ages
Your Stateroom #
your Email address

It will be easier to email the final list instead of individual PMs.

Looking forward to it in just 312 days!!!

So I guess we've had enough "practice" cruising now, so we're ready for the "big time!"

I'm just wondering--how many pieces of luggage will it take for four people x 7 days/nights -- ??? :confused3 PLUS suits for the guys?? Ugh! I don't look forward to the packing....just the planning!

If you've never sailed on a 7 day cruise, I think you will be amazed at how much more you will experience. It is much more relaxing, and there are far more activities to be experienced.

As for luggage, for a 7 day cruise, my DW and I typically pack two large suitcases (one each), plus one shared garment bag. The garment bag holds my tux (or suit), dress shirts, ties, and a few dresses for semi-formal and formal night. I bring multiple accessories for the tux (or suit), so it can be worn on different nights - in different variations. I do NOT pack dress shoes in the garment bag, as they can get crushed in transit. On the other hand, I *do* fill up the garment bag with t-shirts, etc ... to fill up the garment bag, and make more room in the other suit cases. I put my dress shoes in the bottom of one of the suit cases, and stuff them with socks to keep their shape, and cut down on wasted space. Instead of folding t-shirts, polo short, shorts, swim suits, etc ... try ROLLING them. They will take up less space, and you will get more into a suitcase.

On a 7-day cruise, we typically do not need to do any laundry. On longer cruises, we typically pack the same clothing, but wash a load or two of whites. If we need to wash colors, my DW throws a packet into the wash, which sucks up any color from getting absorbed by the whites. I forget the name of the product, but can find out, if desired. We also bring a can of wrinkle release, for use as needed on dress shirts, suits, etc. If a suit, dress, or anything gets badly wrinkled, consider the ship's dry cleaning services which can usually PRESS (only) for about half the cost of dry cleaning.

We seriously underpack. We have one large suitcase, each of the 2 boys have a suitcase that is carry-on size and DW and I have a small carry-on. We tend to dress pretty casual. I don't go beyond khakis and a dress shirt. DW tends to wear a nice pants outfit, (not a dress girl!). I used the pressing service for our nice clothes and have been very happy. Saves us time and hassle and looks great for minimal expense. We tried the packing cubes last time. The boys really liked them. They were helpful. The "rolling up of clothing" advice really does work! :cool2:

After checking out my list from our last cruise, I just need to amend what information I'd like to receive for the FE list. Please PM me with this information and I'll add you to the list!

I am thinking the cutoff will be a month before our cruise, so 10/17/10, then I'll send out the final list to the group. Any questions before the final list, just let me know!

Your DisBoard Name
Your Family's Name
The cast members of your group and the kids ages - please also put DD or DS so we know the # of boys and girls
Your Stateroom #
your Email address (It will be easier to email the final list instead of individual PMs.)
If you are celebrating something (anniversary, vow renewal, birthday), let us know as well!

So, mine would be:

DLW8
The Walsh Family
Tom, Darcy, DD9 Jordan, DS9 Aidan
Room # XXXX
Email@email.com

Thanks!!!

The list has been started, we officially have 3 rooms on the list....

Okay, I know FE = fish extender and it's for the door. But what kind of FE thing are you organizing? I'm sure I'll want to participate but I'm clueless. Thanks!
