~ºoº November 27, 2010- Western Magic! ºoº~

Welcome, ukintheus. My family will be first-time cruisers, too. We'll be celebrating our 15th wedding anniversary. We're staying in category 6.

Thanks Lisa :) Good to know that there will be others floundering around. ;) It is all a little overwhelming, especially when I have devoted years to figuring out WDW, it's like starting over. :rotfl:

We are thinking about a few days at WDW prior to the cruise too. The Thanksgiving holiday means it will be really packed, but it will be our 10th wedding anniv on the Wed prior to the cruise so it would be cool.

We also toyed around with back-to-back cruises for the week prior, but I don't think we can swing the $$$ AND seeing as we have never cruised there's a possibility we wouldn't like it....but somehow I REALLY doubt that! :rotfl2:

Sorry I went silent, been a busy summer, and well a tough winter ahead for us. I still haven't found a job yet, with not a lot of opportunities and so many out of work just tough here. Then my mom was laid off. So we are pushing our cruises off to 2011 and 2012. Have to do the responsible thing.

I hope you all have a great time I'm very sad.

Just booked on this cruise -- my first Disney cruise -- hubby's second. It'll be the two of us, plus DD (6) and DS (3). We're planning on doing WDW for a few days prior to the cruise.

We live in Franklin, TN (just South of Nashville). I'm originally from West Michigan (shout out to "Kalamazoo") and my hubby is from Western Kentucky.

Looking forward to getting to know everyone!

Franklin, TN...I think I heard that on the tv this morning... Is that Miley's home town? ;) My 8yo dd is DYING to go see it (wherever it is... :rolleyes1)
Congrats on booking your 1st cruise, DCL is the best!!

I am hoping to transfer my Halloween cruise to this cruise date. Hopefully I can remember to do that this week! Once it's transferred, I will post our info.

Hope everyone has a great week!

Welcome Diane!

Tiffany- I think your DD and mine will get along just fine- both of my girls LOVE LOVE LOVE Miley Cyrus! :rotfl:

We are all trying to talk my mom into coming with us (we have 2 staterooms, so plenty of room for her to join us) and my MIL and FIL and thinking about reserving a cabin as well!

Tiffany - Yes, Miley probably calls Franklin her hometown. I believe they live(d) in Leiper's Fork, but would have been zoned for school in Franklin.

It's so funny you mention that, because my DD (5) cried and cried last night because she was trying to get me to remember the time I met MILEY in person. When I told her I've never seen Miley, she screamed -- "YES, MAMA -- YOU DID -- YOU DID!!!"

Thanks to both of you for the welcome -- I was starting to get a complex since it has been a month since I posted ... :)

OT -- I was wrong ... I checked Wikipedia & Miley does list Franklin as her hometown. One of my friend's daughter's went to school with her. We actually have lots of famous residents is this county / area -- Keith Urban & Nicole Kidman, Ashley Judd, Sheryl Crow, Michael McDonald, etc. Middle Tennessee is a great area to see live music at a reasonable price.

Now, back to the cruise -- we are booked in a category 11 room -- 7541. Since we're doing a few days at the Contemporary & the parks before the trip, we really didn't want to spend more $ on the cruise. My hope is to have some $ set aside to try & upgrade at the port.

Hope everyone has a great weekend!

Diane

So, now that Thanksgiving's over, I'm realizing that we'll be in DisneyWorld next year for Thanksgiving, and on the MAGIC the following week! We're really getting excited (well, at least I am). Now the real countdown begins!

Sorry to say we've rescheduled to go on the Wonder on 2/28/2010. Our DD's 6th birthday is 3/5/2010. We decided since we were able to snag the Kids Sail Free offer plus be able to be at DW for her birthday that it would work out better for us.

Hope "ya'll" have a magical cruise!

Diane

Hey everyone, I booked this cruise this morning! We just got off the Wonder (Dec. 3rd 3-night cruise) and had a DVC point incentive to book again within 3days of getting off the ship. This will be our fourth cruise but have only done 3 & 4 nighters and never felt that was long enough--so hopefully 7 nights will be "long enough!?!?!?" We are excited to be going to three ports we've never been to, too! We have a Cat. 9 on Deck 2.

It will be me, my DH, DS (will be 16 then) and DD (will be 14 then). My teenagers love cruising and my DS especially loves the teen club, sports beach at CC, sports deck, and they both love the food! (Don't we all...)

We have never booked a cruise this far ahead before so I don't know what it will be like to plan and wait almost a whole year! But with new ports to check out, excursion decisions will need to be made and that will be fun! Anyway, just wanted to check in and say we're with ya! :woohoo:

Hi everyone - I just got off the Wonder yesterday for our first cruise, and we booked onboard for this one. Everyone loved the 3 day (it was our trial cruise) and we are looking forward to a longer cruise this time!

Our cast:
me (Darcy)
DH (Tom)
DD (Jordan) she is 8 and will be 9 a month after the cruise
DS (Aidan) he is 8 and will be 9 a month after the cruise

I will admit that I didn't read all 8 pages, but did read page 1 and noticed a mention of a website, but didn't see the link. What am I missing? I am still tired from the cruise and really need to finish unpacking, do laundry and clean the house so I can get ready for Christmas, but felt compelled to see if there was a meet thread for this cruise. :thumbsup2

Just got off the last Eastbound Tortola cruise (originally a St. Croix cruise) ... need to catch up on DisBoards. We are sailing sans kids, once again!

We love Disney and the Caribbean ... as we get to visit Passman Galleries on St. Thomas, as well as Grand Cayman.

Future DCL include:
April 10, 2010 - 14 day TransAtlantic to Barcelona, Spain
May 3, 2011 - Inaugural Alaskan cruise

We have only ever booked two cruises less than 7 days. The first was on the Magic in 1999, when it only sailed either 3 or 4 days. The second was a last minute cruise (4/08), when we HAD to use our DVC points - or loose them. I figured a DCL cruise would be appropriate!

In the past few years, we've been on a 10 day (Holland America), 15 day DCL Panama Canal repositioning cruise, and have also booked a 14 day DCL TransAtlantic cruise (4/10). Once you have been on a cruise of that length ... even a 7 day cruise can seem too short!

One thing to think about when going on a longer cruise, is how and what to pack. On our longer cruises, we cannot bring fresh clothes for every day, so we wash WHITES on the ship. The Magic and Wonder have public washers and dryers (each, on two separate floors) ... I forget the cost - probably $1-$2 per load (bring a roll of quarters). You can buy detergent there as well, but we pack travel size laundry packets.

When we sailed the 10 day on Holland America, we knew (in advance) there were NO PUBLIC LAUNDRY FACILITIES onboard. The onboard laundry service was $25-$35 per laundry bag, and was washed by the stateroom host. That was a few years ago, from memory, and on a different cruise line.

I thought they recently changed the washers and dryers on DCL to use your KTTW card instead of cash....

While I'm fine with washing a load on the ship, I also feel I can get through a 7 night cruise with all fresh clothes. We were at WDW for 5 nights before our 3 night cruise and didn't have to do laundry the entire time we were at WDW or on the ship...

Yes, I understand they do use KTTW card now (mea culpa). We did not use laundry services on our last two 7-day cruises (April & Dec '09). When we sailed Panama Canal (Aug-Sep '08), they did not accept KTTW.
:confused3

As for washing ... I was referring to cruises longer than 7 days. We got a little creative on Holland America for our 10 day (no public laundry), but we used guest laundry on DCL 15 day Panama Canal, and plan to use it on DCL 14 day TransAtlantic.
:cheer2:

Gotcha - I will just have to dream about having to do laundry since I don't know that we will get on a longer cruise than 7 nights. :rotfl2:
