ª"˜˜ª¤.¸Team August 2013 Thread! (Part 2)¸.¤ª˜˜"ª&#9733

Welcome!! We will be there 8/18-8/27 and doing a split stay too (BC and Poly)!

Jealous! We almost did BC for our last 3 days but my 11yr old wanted AoA. I figure there may not be many years left of that so BC will be our next trip for sure. We love Poly!

I just called POR regarding the refrigeration and she said the refrigerators in POR will be replaced by July 31st and August travelers will have the refrigerators

:thumbsup2

Phew...library had not one, but two copies of Lady and the Tramp! And its sequel - who knew? :confused3

Scratch the cheesecake - I can't afford the weight watcher points :rotfl2: Nothing like dropping a huge chunk of change on a half marathon clear across the country to inspire some healthy (er?) habits lol. So it's Italian cookies instead!

Menu printed, sauce cooking, and movie night is on :)

Awww, this is a great idea!!

Can I join in on the fun?? We are a family of 4. We have 2 DD's, one will be 12 in Sept and the other will be 4 while we are at the parks, celebrating at CRT. We will be at SSR from 8/15 to 8/23 and then AoA from 8/23 to 8/26. We are probably the only family of girls (minus DH) that will be in a Cars Suite :) So excited!!

Welcome! We're at AoA too the 25-31. When we booked our family suite the cast member assumed we'd want lion King, but our 4 year old DD insisted on Cars!

About a week ago I received an email with an offer to receive a $25 Disney gift card if I agreed to take a 10 minute telephone tour for the DVC. I called and they had a record of speaking to me before (they contacted me right after I booked the August trip, I never signed up to be called) so at the end of the call they told me I didn't qualify for the gift card. I wasted 15 minutes, but oh well.
Well today FedEx brought me a lovely $25 gift card anyways. I gave it to DD and told her it was from Mickey. She is SO excited!

I contacted AoA about the fridge situation (my father is coming and has medicine he needs to keep refrigerated) and the CM told me that the family suites would not be affected - if that's applicable to anyone else. I've read online that people contacting resorts directly are getting different answers, but at least that's one answer in my favor!

Welcome! We're going to be there 8/17-8/23 and are staying at AoA in a Cars Suite. Out of the 5 of us I'm the only guy. :lmao: We wanted Nemo but moved to Cars to get a discount. Going to be a great time.

Man oh man! All these people staying in the Cars suites like us...but either RIGHT before or RIGHT after our dates.

Nice to hear that the suites won't be affected. That makes me feel a little better.

I think if you enjoy the desserts and prefer that over appetizers or something else, the DDP is great! I prefer to eat my desserts a little while after dinner or while wandering around, so OOP is better for that.

To be honest, the most painful part of paying OOP is buying the mugs! I will ask the boys if they even want them this trip, but if they say yes, which they probably will, I will buy them. DW will drink the $100 worth of coffee by the end of the week so it'll balance out ;).

I hate buying the mugs too. They should be free for resort guest...wishful thinking!!

We don't do the dining plan but I use my 'free' Disney money on food so I am really saving, right?? I have around $500 on the DV & I have another $400 in Disney gift cards from either quick rewards or sunshine rewards & then we throw in all our loose change so that is nearly $600. We will obviously use the gift cards & DV money first before we use the money.

NOOOOooooooooo.........

Hey has anyone ever driven to Tampa or St Petersburg from Orlando?

Yes. Actually we drove from CT to Ft. Myers in April & I was surprised at how short the drive was to Tampa. I never did that drive before. Heck I was surprised at how short the drive was coast to coast but there is so much to see (aka the Disney signs or Universal Signs or Busch Garden's signs) vs driving thru treeville Carolina.

Did anyone else hear they are removing the fridges from most Disney world resort rooms due to defect? And that you won't be notified of this until you arrive with a letter In your room? This sucks for our breakfast in room plan!

I saw that too but saw that the Poly wasn't affected (or is it effected??). I was thinking of bringing my soft sided cooler as a back up but I will have my sisters car that first night for a grocery run if I need to.

It was amazing. A lifetime of memories. It definitely made her happy at a time when she was really struggling. She has had 30 surgical procedures and had a kidney transplant. Post transplant she's been healthier than she ever was before. However, there's a part of me that holds my breath in the background waiting for there to be problems. Luckily she's 15 and doesn't yet think of such things. Thanks for asking!

We are at 25 days...in a way I don't want to get there because I'm not sure when we'll be able to do another trip so right now I know we're going, after this...

I am sure you heard it before, take it one day at a time but as a parent you just worry instead. So happy for her & you & your family!

Somebody called Poly IPO and it doesn't seem the Poly is affected by the fridge situation. :-)

YAY!!!!!!!! I saw that. They would be dumb not to work out that kink while redoing the rooms. FYI, we will be at the pool Saturday the 3rd & Tuesday afternoon/evening (maybe) & all day Wednesday and Saturday the 10th (but I think you are gone by then). I am hoping to make my kids hang out in the quiet pool. I have always preferred that pool, even as a teen when they had the old volcano slide. SIghhhh...I miss that.

Like Like Like! Lucky ducky!

Monorailsilver - we will more than likely see you around then!! I need to get a LGMH before the trip! :-/

Darn, we will just miss you - maybe we will get your room :)

I heard that too. It's pretty disappointing. I was counting on that fridge!

I have heard you can request a 'fridge if you have medical needs, special diet due to medical need, medications to be kept in the 'fridge etc.

I heard the same thing. I also heard it will take up to 4 months to fix or replace the fridges.

This would REALLY suck and interfere with plans. Can someone point me to the FB group so I can read more about this. I'm thinking of calling my resort to ask about this, any reason I shouldn't do that?

Definitely call! My TA checked for me today and it is true :-(. You can find the Facebook link on page one ;-)

I guess we'll just have to suck it up and eat Mickey waffles every day lmao!!!

Had a wake up call yesterday that makes me realize that the trip is closer than I thought!

Went to the Disney store in the mall to kill time while my cell phone was being worked on and saw they had gotten rid of all of the summer stuff and had back to school items already on the displays! :scared1:

I was hoping that we could get some of the bathing suits with the swim shirts for the girls but they didn't have any summer stuff at all. There is some on the website but the only swim shirts they have are boy themed and while my girls like Cars and Toy Story and such I don't think they want it on their swim suit. I'd rather them have the swim shirts both for modesty reasons and for sun protection, so I'm hoping we can find something girly.

Think I'm going to have to hit Wal-Mart or Target here soon to grab something on clearance.

On the upside though having the back to school stuff available is great for our plan to have autographed backpacks. :thumbsup2

I just got a few of those bathing suit shirts for my daughter at Target and The Children's Place...good luck shopping!
