ª"˜˜ª¤.¸Team August 2013 Thread! (Part 2)¸.¤ª˜˜"ª&#9733

I just got a few of those bathing suit shirts for my daughter at Target and The Children's Place...good luck shopping!

Target still had summer stuff out...Babies R Us not so much. But that also meant I picked up a couple of bathing suits and a sundress for DD for $6 a piece. :-)

Reading a few rumors on here that I don't like and are making me question just what is going on with Disney. Some official word on plans would be nice.

The refrigerator thing is concerning that they aren't notifying guests prior to arriving. What if you make an order with GG or someplace or even bring your own stuff and then have no way to keep it? I'm definitely not ordering anything now just because I don't know if I'll have a fridge to put it in.

Also seeing a rumor that the Osborne lights may be going away to make room for expansion at DHS. While we don't go at Christmas time every year it's really an awesome display and my wife and I went there during our first trip together and it's a special place for us. It was one of the things we looked forward to most last year when we went.

I understand there are reasons for doing some of the things they are doing, but unless there is official announcement about new things coming it just makes you wonder what the plan is. I priced out a trip for June next year and it's coming out to about $50 more without flights than what we're paying this year for our trip with flights. I know it's different seasons, but it's still a pretty steep increase. :confused3

Oh please for the love of all things holy. Do NOT tell me they are thinking of not doing the Osborne lights this year. I have dreamed, wished and planned for a Christmas trip for YEARS. I have cancelled my August trip. All I want is my December trip and one of the absolute highlights of that trip is going to be the Obsborne lights. If it is not running this year I swear to god I will bring MILLIONS of tiny lights, sneak into the park at night and string them all up myself. Then I will call them Piglettos lights and chain myself to a lamp post in protest and refuse to be hauled away. Yep. No Osborne lights and I will totally lose it folks. It won't be pretty.:rotfl2:

I agree! I'll chain myself with you! We are flying down just for the weekend in December for MVMCP and the Osborne lights.

I would visit Disney to see this version of the lights!

Okay DIS friends, I need advice. I'm a bit stressed right now due to family drama and I am looking for a Disney craft to occupy my mind and time.

After asking around, it seems that the doors at the family suites at AoA are not metal :( I was really looking forward to decorating my door, especially since I make my own magnets.

So I guess my question is this. Do you think it would work alright if I used suction cups and hung my pictures off of those? Any other ideas of how I could still decorate my door? I know tape and sticky stuff is not allowed so I'm just looking for alternatives! Thanks a bunch!!

Forget the Osborne lights, I'd much rather see this!

I woke up this morning to another email from my family about the Asiana flight crash - they've been sending me links to plane crashes, train wrecks, car accidents, anything horrible and transportation related because it terrifies me. In 45 days I will spend most of the day traveling. 2 hour car ride to the airport, two planes, a bus ride, round trip monorail and a bus again. Does anyone else get stressed out over this?! (Or maybe just the flying part like a normal person?) I was fine until I had kids. Sheesh.

I get stressed when the weather is off on the day we fly. I like to see clear paths to our destination to reduce the chance of turbulence.

In 2008 we flew across Canada to see my FIL and on our way home Alberta was having the worst wind storm of the year. Of course we didn't look at the weather and our flight was on time so we went... Long story short the ride home was horrid turbulence and my dd was violently ill most of the way back with a 'big finale' as we landed! I will never fly in that kind of weather again! It took her three years before she'd let us book to WDW again cause she didn't want to fly lol!

I'm not so much worried about a crash in that way but leaving the ground in a small metal tube is frightening especially at take off and landing!

Amen, sisters! :thumbsup2

BTW, this was just the laugh I needed this morning. Haven't been doing much laughing this week. After dealing with the unexpected car repairs of late June, we had our outdoor hose (which is on the south wall of our house) burst on Saturday while we were away at a family reunion for the day. From the amount of water outside, it looks like it ran full-force for at least 7 hours or so before we returned home and found it :( . Keep in mind we have just had our old driveway removed 3 weeks ago in preparation for a new one, so right now its just gravel (meaning there is no proper drainage or grading until the new pavement is poured......so all the water sank right down into the earth next to the foundation). Needless to say, some of the thousands of gallons of water seeped into our house and caused a little bit of damage to our rec room and downstairs bathroom :furious: . We now need to do some foundation repair before the new driveway is poured......which is going to be another $3000-7000 on top of the $4096 for the new driveway :faint: .

Yep, its been a bad week.

Add this on top of the the new kitchen floor that we installed earlier this year ($1600), the new interior doors we purchased and installed ($2000) and the new eavestrough that was put on in the spring ($1000) and I am almost ready to go crazy :rolleyes1 .

This has been a great house so far (we have been there three years with zero problems before now) and I love our neighbourhood, but quite honestly, for two cents I could list the dastardly place right now and move to an apartment.

Okay, pity party over. Thanks for letting me vent.

I agree. It's definitely a kids thing. I never liked flying, but since having kids, now I won't fly. If you keep receiving emails like that, delete them without even opening, and tell your family to stop sending them!! Or, you can send them links to some of their worst fears. :thumbsup2

About a week ago I received an email with an offer to receive a $25 Disney gift card if I agreed to take a 10 minute telephone tour for the DVC. I called and they had a record of speaking to me before (they contacted me right after I booked the August trip, I never signed up to be called) so at the end of the call they told me I didn't qualify for the gift card. I wasted 15 minutes, but oh well.
Well today FedEx brought me a lovely $25 gift card anyways. I gave it to DD and told her it was from Mickey. She is SO excited!

Woo Hoo!!! How cute to tell your DD it was from Mickey!

Seriously though, I hope they don't do away with the Osborne Lights.

I get like this too. My rational brain says not to worry because the chances are slim, etc.

The irrational anxiety that I feel though is much harder to ignore. If all of us (meaning the five of us) are flying together, I am fine. It's when we fly without the kids or they fly without us that I get nutty. At the end of next week the boys will go see their grandparents in Texas and we will go to London. I got nauseous just typing that :rotfl:. I do plan these things so that they will be settled before we take off and we will be home again before they leave Texas. But that doesn't mean I won't be stressed out for the entire two travel days!

I think it's ok to be nervous as long as it doesn't debilitate you to the point that you don't travel or let others travel. And tell your family to quit with the horror stories - no need for it as there is no way to predict the future.

Ugh! Big hugs!! I'm sorry you are having so many expensive house problems. :worried:

I don't get worried about that stuff. Kind of bogus that they would be sending that stuff to try to ruin your joy. Ignore them. You'll be fine and have a wonderful trip.

Life, and especially homeownership, can be stressful. You're welcome to vent to your virtual friends here. :)

I just found out that my boss is quitting after 15 years with the company. Not sure if or how this will affect my job but I'm praying that I remain employed. I'd hate to have to cancel the trip to pay the mortgage.

+1 on seeing Pigletto's lights.

I told my wife about the possibility that the lights would come down (probably only temporarily while they remodel) and she was sad. Our first trip to Disney together was at MGM at Christmas just after we got engaged and found out we were pregnant with DD1 so it's kind of a special thing for us. We're not planning on Christmas trips in the next two trips but it would still make us sad knowing they were gone. We've talked about going back at Thanksgiving again after last year's trip so it's not out of the realm of possibilities.

Still waiting on Mickey Mail. Any day now it should be here.

Thanks all. I am grateful we have an emergency fund set aside for times like these......while its upsetting and maddening, at least we have the means to deal with it financially. Otherwise, I think I would :faint: .

Fingers crossed for you squirrel that your boss's departure doesn't affect you negatively. Ugh, I hate change ::yes:: .

I hope you stay employed, too! It's never fun to be unemployed unexpectedly or have things go sour at work. Let us know how it goes!

This scenario has been on my mind for my job as well. My boss and the next senior-level employee I work with have been employed long enough to retire. One or both of their departures could negatively impact my position. That, coupled with many other reasons, is why I am trying to pre-empt this scenario by leaving first! My DH and I are currently planning my exit to become a full-time stay-at-home mom by the end of the year. This is one of the reasons our August vacation is on such a low budget--we are getting prepared for the transition! :scared1:
