ª"˜˜ª¤.¸Team August 2013 Thread! (Part 2)¸.¤ª˜˜"ª&#9733

I hope you stay employed, too! It's never fun to be unemployed unexpectedly or have things go sour at work. Let us know how it goes!

This scenario has been on my mind for my job as well. My boss and the next senior-level employee I work with have been employed long enough to retire. One or both of their departures could negatively impact my position. That, coupled with many other reasons, is why I am trying to pre-empt this scenario by leaving first! My DH and I are currently planning my exit to become a full-time stay-at-home mom by the end of the year. This is one of the reasons our August vacation is on such a low budget--we are getting prepared for the transition! :scared1:

Congrats on that! My wife made the move to permanent stay at home mom last year and it's been wonderful. We've been blessed with improvements in my employment (albeit nothing is ever guaranteed) and with some guidance on having a budget, a meal plan and some maturity that helps us make it successful. Good luck with your transition! :thumbsup2

I phoned CBR to ask about the fridges but they didn't have to much information, just that they were being removed but didn't know if they would be done by the end of August. She said to phone 10 days before we arrive and find out if they were done and if not put a request in for a frige. I was planning on getting some breakfast stuff, water snacks for the room so it would be nice to have one but I guess to be on the safe side I will bring our little softsided cooler bag. I don't want to take a frige from someone who needs it for medication but it would be nice to have one. Fingers crossed that they are all swapped by the time we get there.
She did say some other stuff but I'm afraid my Western Canadian ears had a hard time with her accent! Sometimes I seem to have less problems with British accents then some southern US ones.
Anyone else call them and find out anything?

I said yesterday that the website seemed to be much better yesterday. Today it's back to being all jacked up. Wonder what they are doing with it now...

Thanks, that's encouraging to hear! Even though we have been living on one salary for a year now (and throwing my entire income at the mortgage), it will be hard not to have that as a fallback. Plus, my DH's health insurance has less coverage than mine, so we'll need to make adjustments there. It's going to be quite a change, but having a peaceful and well-run home will be worth it!
BTW, this was just the laugh I needed this morning. Haven't been doing much laughing this week. After dealing with the unexpected car repairs of late June, we had our outdoor hose (which is on the south wall of our house) burst on Saturday while we were away at a family reunion for the day. From the amount of water outside, it looks like it ran full-force for at least 7 hours or so before we returned home and found it :( . Keep in mind we have just had our old driveway removed 3 weeks ago in preparation for a new one, so right now its just gravel (meaning there is no proper drainage or grading until the new pavement is poured......so all the water sank right down into the earth next to the foundation). Needless to say, some of the thousands of gallons of water seeped into our house and caused a little bit of damage to our rec room and downstairs bathroom :furious: . We now need to do some foundation repair before the new driveway is poured......which is going to be another $3000-7000 on top of the $4096 for the new driveway :faint: .

Yep, its been a bad week.

Add this on top of the the new kitchen floor that we installed earlier this year ($1600), the new interior doors we purchased and installed ($2000) and the new eavestrough that was put on in the spring ($1000) and I am almost ready to go crazy :rolleyes1 .

This has been a great house so far (we have been there three years with zero problems before now) and I love our neighbourhood, but quite honestly, for two cents I could list the dastardly place right now and move to an apartment.

Okay, pity party over. Thanks for letting me vent.
Uggh! Sending you good vibes:goodvibes

ETA Don't know why this didn't quote right:confused3

Haha. Famous last words! I booked a 2014 package and now everything is gone. I thought maybe I screwed up my page with the new reservation but it sounds like everyone is having trouble.

And this, dear pigletto, is one of the reasons I think so highly of you. You rock ::yes:: .

Amen, sisters! :thumbsup2

Completely understand. Our house has decreased in value since we purchased it despite money we keep dumping into it. It's supposed to be a starter home but starting to feel like we will be here forever. Feel bad for complaining bc we are fortunate to be healthy am have a comfortable home, but we are working our you know what's off and still stuck. Blah.

I hear ya. We moved into our 'starter' home 8 years ago! We thought we would be here for about 2 years. At this point, we are expecting to move in another two years. We always thought we would sell this house to upgrade, but now we are planning to sacrifice having a nicer house, so that we can get more land. Although it stinks the value hasn't gone up, we are holding pretty steady from when we bought it, so I can't complain. Plus, I am honestly glad we didn't move back then, since our priorities and desires have changed so much over the years!

Thanks ladies :goodvibes .

My mom keeps reminding me "as long as its only the house and car stuff that's going wrong, and its nothing affecting the health and welfare of the people you love, then everything is surmountable". And I know she's right (Mom's usually are :scratchin). But Geez Louise. Enough already!

I am thankful our trip is totally paid and has been for quite some time. That's making these expenses more bearable and less of a burden. I am thankful that we are gainfully employed (all three of us). I am thankful for the emergency fund to cover these unexpected costs. I am thankful that thus far, everything has been fixable. I guess I need to count my blessings. My glass must be half-full, not half empty (that has been officially adopted as this week's mantra).

Speaking of the health of those we love......makes me think of joshsmom and her worries over Josh's latest rejection issues. Are you out there joshsmom? How is the boy doing?????

Okay DIS friends, I need advice. I'm a bit stressed right now due to family drama and I am looking for a Disney craft to occupy my mind and time.

After asking around, it seems that the doors at the family suites at AoA are not metal :( I was really looking forward to decorating my door, especially since I make my own magnets.

So I guess my question is this. Do you think it would work alright if I used suction cups and hung my pictures off of those? Any other ideas of how I could still decorate my door? I know tape and sticky stuff is not allowed so I'm just looking for alternatives! Thanks a bunch!!

Okay, I got lost in the mix so I'm bumping :) any help would be great!!

This was my though too. I'm not one with medical needs so we'll just hope they are done and deal with it if they are not. It means I get to have Mickey waffles every day lol

:confused3

I was one not having issues before and when I looked this morning it gave me error after error. I like to think its cause they're preparing my Mickey mail lol

I'm sorry, I saw your post but have no thoughts to help you with the decorations :-/ good luck
Ditto, I wasn't really sure I had anything helpful to add. Having been on the cruises, where door decorations get 'taken', I would shy away from decorating the door. Instead, I know people decorate their front window from the inside. That way, the pictures they spent time creating stay safe from theft, destruction, or weather, and visitors get to enjoy a nice window display!

Hi everyone I am joining in here.

I'll be there August 25th - 31st at Pop Century

Dining - 28th 50's Prime Time 11:15am, 29th Coral Reef 11:20am, and 30th Plaza Restaurant 12:20

Can I get the team August Mickey head with mickey and the gang in it please.

We will be there at the same time. I'm leaving before you though. Maybe we'll run into each other!~!!

Congratulations on making the decision to stay home! I'm starting my third year at home and I love it. Yes, it was an adjustment, but the home really is better run and more peaceful like you said.

We also had insurance concerns. Fortunately for us timing was on our side. When I first left NY did not yet recognize same sex marriage and DW's employer did not offer it for DPs. But then the law passed and I could get insurance, but we still had the imputed tax. Now with the repeal of DOMA we will save the $432 a month in imputed taxes! The universe has a way of making these things work out for you, so I'm sure you will get used to the change soon! And you will also be surprised at how much money you will save in not needing "convenience" things that go along with working full time.
