Zombie Threads...what harm do they do???

If someone wants to participate in a zombie thread, more power to them. I just think trying to give advice to someone who's problems were years ago is a little ridiculous. I'll point out a zombie thread just to help folks like @georgina.

I think zombie threads get bumped for a couple reasons...
1) Someone has clicked on one of the "suggested" threads at the bottom of a page and tries to give advice/opinion and not realizing it's months or years old.
2) Some spammer picked the thread to post on (sometimes the mods have already deleted the bumping post before you've read it)
3) Someone has done a google search for a specific issue and try to put their spin on it.

I'm actually a fan of the zombie threads. They're usually some of the funniest/most interesting threads on CB.

Usually the issue is still current, even if the OP may have resolved that issue in their lives.
No worse that a new thread on an old topic. And new threads on old topics are much more common that zombie threads here.
But there is a reason they call it the "circle of life".

There's no harm. I just think certain people can't resist pointing out that it's a zombie thread.

I always check the date of a long thread that suddenly appears so I don't pay attention to the info..it may be outdated, wrong, blah blah blah.

The boards are very boring lately so a heated zombie thread would be welcome. Come on thirteen year old in a stroller!!

I think there's lots of potential for zombie threads to be revived. Regardless of how old they are, the conversation could get good again. But it rarely does because as soon as somebody "post-shames" somebody else for responding to a zombie thread, it dies right off again.

I must admit I'm a little confused about older kids being in strollers without any kind of type of medical reason for doing so.

The only reason I can think of people doing it is to cart around all the snacks they bring into the parks to save money, in particular hotdogs precooked in the hotel coffee pot. Or toasted sandwiches made with the iron.

It could also be handy for a quick get away in the crowds at closing time.

Actually, I'm starting to see the benefits of older kids in strollers now.

I found a nice thread from 2002 that would have made interesting discussion, but it was sadly locked after only 5 pages. And no, it was nothing to do with the two banned topics.

This--so many times it's a thread where someone is asking a specific question about a trip they're going on in X weeks/months. They already have five or ten pages of answers. Thread gets bumped and a rush of new people give very specific advice that only applies to the OP's situation. Except the trip happened five years ago and OP hasn't been seen since.

It's just a time waster for both posters and readers.

Why start a new thread when there is an old one to add on to? A lot of times threads start as one thing and end up something completely different.

No, I make it a point to NOT comment hoping the thread will not be bumped up, and will die a natural death.

I find it annoying to waste my time on something that was surely resolved years ago. If you want information start a new thread!

The thing is, lots of boards lose their mind if you make a new thread. Seriously, you can't win for losing on the internet. I belonged to a board that explicitly stated that if you were going to start a thread, search the topic first and if you find a thread, post there. Then they'd get nasty because you bumped a thread. If it bugs you (general you) then just don't respond. I don't see what the big deal is.

Zombie threads don't bug me. Sometimes I'll get a notification from a thread from years ago and it cracks me up. I admit to forgetting to look at the date and getting invested in one or two only to be left hanging.

I get annoyed taking the time and effort to type out a response to a 10 year old post only to find out someone usually a newbie has bumped it for no good reason. The blame partly falls on me for not noticing the date of the post.

Exactly this. It bothers me knowing whoever asked the question is long over the issue they posted about. It doesn't stop me from living my life but it rubs me the wrong way. And I never check the dang date!!

Well, fairly often zombie threads are bumped by spammers. The mods sometimes delete the spam but the thread is still bumped. No harm to reply, but it can result in a bit of an unusual discussion.
