Just a PSA - Since the latest board upgrade, there seem to be threads popping up below the reply box of any thread you are currently reading. Some of these are fairly new, while some are quite old (the infamous "Zombie Threads").

Of course, many topics are still of interest even after some time! But a good number of these threads may be outdated, the event the advice was requested for has passed, or the old versions of running threads (like daily polls, monthly exercise groups, or song games) may be confused with the current ones.

So if you click on one of these threads, remember to check the date of the first post!

Thanks for the heads up!

I’m still navigating this upgrade. I can’t get emoji’s from Dis, and if you try to condense a quote, you can’t get out of it to post your reply.

Ugh … can I say I really do not enjoy learning curves with upgrades. 😉

I noticed on the Oscar Watch Party thread that previous years are showing as similar threads. :headache: I've been thinking of changing the current thread title as it's no longer on "tonight" and it may be around for a while as more and more info and details and debate come up. popcorn:: And of course there will be the decision on what the Academy decides to do to Will Smith. We DISers have to weigh in. ::yes:: :teeth:

But, then I think people will get confused. "What happened to the thread??? Is this a zombie thread someone bumped from the bottom of the page?" Then they accidentally bump up a real zombie thread thinking it's the right one. :headache:

I currently added the year to the old threads. But there is the Emmy Awards thread that is this year. Argh!

Well, the 'similar' threads I see here now are on:

  • Planning tips for your Disney trip
  • ROFR thread Jan to March 2022 (not sure what a ROFR is, hope I am not cussing ....my words in ( )
  • Thread on Jason's passing
  • Another ROFR Oct to Dec 2021
  • And, I love credit cards so much
Those do sound similar.

That crazy box was there before but somehow some did not have to see it, others did, and caused the zombie thread phenomena. Seems that ad-blocker knocked it out or something, but I am running ad blocker and still shows up. I wish there was a working ad blocker for Android. That is a nightmare! with ads up and down the screen, moving ads, etc., etc. I feel like I am in an amusement park fun house when on my phone.

Yes….I noticed this too - it’s kind of annoying.
I‘ve replied to a few and then saw they are over a year old.
I’m not liking this board upgrade at all (if I had smilies I’d be using them)

Only thing Slo, they probably wouldn't be smilies as in happy smilies, right!! :teeth:

I find the posts below reply box annoying. I don't want to see threads from other boards than this one , and I keep clicking on them thinking they are new and might be interesting, and getting taken to ones I have no wish to see, not realizing that they are from the other boards. I also don't like that smilies aren't working at all. They did say they were working on it, so maybe we will see some more changes soon.

"ROFR" is an acronym for "Right off first refusal." It's part of the process of someone selling their DVC contracts and Disney has "ROFR" to match the asking price to buy it back.

But now that you mention it...what terrible, tasteless, offensive, inappropriate thing could "ROFR" stand for? We can't post it of course, but we can think it. ;>)

I don't see Rolling on Floor Relaxing tasteless or offensive at all...

I didn't know there was a software update. It all seems the same to me.

I don't like the way the now running things millennials are designing things. Same color boxes you are suppose to differentiate. buttons that are no longer a different color so you can't see them. Grey text on light pastel backgrounds. I don't get any of it. This forum is actually pretty good in that regard. It's not completely black text, but it is close to black.

However, with this forum, someone will put up a poll and I have no idea what the poll is asking because there's no title. I later find the title in white text on a barely perceptible off-white background.

Worst part of forums these days are everything is new. Click on "new" next to the post and it takes you to the first post from an ongoing discussion that's been going on for 2 years? I have replied the same reply in some threads that I had replied 8 months and 57 pages ago because of not catching the dates and not remembering I replied 8 months ago.

Also the reply box. Start a reply and change your mind. It stays in the reply box. Tomorrow halfway down the thread you hit reply to quote someone and reply to their post halfway down the page and that post you started but didn't finish yesterday is tacked onto the beginning of your post today and you had no idea it was going to do that.

As my eye sight gets worse as I get older, but I can't retire and still have to use a computer for work related stuff, I am not happy at all in how they are designing software these days. Seems like they are designing it on purpose for older folks to use. I have a machine I run and I'm not allowed to wear my reading glasses ever on the floor, I have to wear safety glasses. So, I have to change steam settings on my laptop of which is a tiny grey text on a pastel orange text box on pastel pink background. I have no idea what I have typed into that box, but it's going to be very serious if I typed 27 seconds vs. 2.7 seconds. Nothing I can do about it however, I'm not allowed to be able to see.

The latest upgrade just brings the DIS into the year 2022. DIS is the only forum I frequent where "Zombie Threads" are a thing. All the other forums I am on don't want multiple threads on the same subject. They don't care that a thread on the Oscars goes back years, they prefer that they just have one thread on a topic.
However, I suspect if the Webmasters want to, there are setting that can limit the appearance of older threads.

I read about a different upgrade for just the way the Firefox browser is laid out (noting to do with the DIS,) is that the upgrades are for being able to view stuff easier on smartphones.

I looked at a DIS page when someone said she still had smilies on her iPhone. I looked on my Android, we don't have them. What I did notice right away was that the text box was set up simpler, a lot of the buttons hidden, now accessible when you click on the dots, is so they appear less cluttered on a smartphone. The whole upgrade was for that, not for PCs. Instead of having this format appear on phones only, those of us on a laptop have it too. :badpc:

For the Firefox browser, there's a lot of space between the list of bookmarks on my PC screen. It's unnecessary and throws finding the right bookmark off, as it's way lower that before and I have to scroll to find the right one. Someone in a tech forum mentioned the extra space is to make it easier for those on a phone to press the bookmark without accidentally hitting the one above or below it. So, now we on PCs have to be inconvenienced due to upgrades for phones.

(Smilies appearing only because I happened to have some of the word codes memorized for them.)
