Yuck! Poop in the SSR pool!

WDW has very strick water monitoring of all their pools and the water in them. I have never been at any of their pools or hot tubs and NOT had one of the techs make rounds to do a water testing. The gentleman said they test for Ph, adjust chlorine levels, as well as screen for "fecal". That being said, he told us he wouldn't swim in the pools/hot tubs because they had so much chemicals in them to make them "safe" and he knew how much adjusting did have to be done on a regular basis. He did advise that anytime you have been in one of the pools, shower very well to get the chems off.

Oldest DS is a lifeguard at a theme park here in CT with a waterpark...he said they often have the problem in the wave pool where someone will vomit and they need to evacuate the entire wave pool (LOTS of people). the maint guys do a major dose of chemicals and wait for 20 mins....that is the time for the entire water volume to cycle twice thru the filtering system. This is a major inconvenience during peak times, he said he has lots of people complaining about payng their money, its hot and they want to be in the water.....but once he tells them what happened and why they cant go in....the arguments seem to stop

It happens at all public facilities...I would assume that there is enough chemicals in the water on a routine basis, that when you get the little kids with the leaky diapers, but nobody "knows" about it, there wont be any health issues.....I bet Disney maint plans for that

I knew a couple people that were lifeguards when I was on the CP and they said we'd all be shocked at how often that happens. Almost daily.

Oh, and the Disney code for this is AFR (accidental fecal release) if you wanna be "in the know" (throwing up is a "protein spill")

I had a ridiculous 'Caddyshack' flashback when my DD8 saw a 'floater' in the ASMo pool 2 years ago. I yanked her out so fast and other parents pulled their kids from the pool too. Granted stuff like this happens, I haven't been able to bring myself to go back to that pool since.

There are a lot of condos in SWFL that will not allow non potty trained kids in the pool and no swim diapers either.

We were at the Poly in Oct and they closed down the big pool very unexpectantly...it was down for a few houses...maybe this is why?

Yes, I know that a lot of resorts (other than Disney) do not allow any children that are not potty trained in their pools even with swim diapers.

Can you imagine the outcry of families if WDW changed their pool policy in regards to not allowing swim diapers or not allowing non potty trained children into the pools.

When you were staying at the PR, when the pool closed suddenly for a few hours, it probably was due to a bowel movement.

Last November we were swimming at the main pool at OKW. I followed the kids up the steps to the slide (inside the light house). I saw "brown stuff" on the steps as I was walking up, and then I noticed a not so nice aroma. I went down the slide and then swam straight over to the lifeguard and told him about it. He immediately radioed for some workers that came over to check it out. Surprisingly they didn't close down the pool, but they did close the slide down briefly to "clean" out the stairs. All I saw were a hose, a bucket and I think one of the guys had a pool tester. I asked the lifeguard if it was what I thought it was, and he nodded yes. I hope it got cleaned up enough!

I've seen it happen at a local waterpark several times in their kiddie pool. Not sure there's much that can be done at about it after the fact, that's why I always as DS a zillion times if he needs to go potty..... I don't want him to be the one clearing out the pool!

I have a friend who is in the pool business and he says that those swim diapers do NOT hold in anything - they just don't balloon up like a regular diaper. He says that all babies and toddlers should wear the elastic / rubber pants over a swim diaper. I know this is what I will have my 1 yo doing this summer. All I can say is that it WON't be my fault if a pool closes due to an AFR!

I do the same thing. I just make sure to remind DS4 to let me know if he needs to use the potty. I even did this when he wore swim diapers last year. Kids are usually having so much fun they don't want to leave the pool. We also make them use the btahroom before we go to the pool. Definately don't want my DS clearing the pool . When we were at Poly in October they closed thge pool one afternoon for a AFR.

During our trip to POR Aug 2006 we headed to the pool and bar and came accross the pool are blocked off by all the lounge chairs and were told what happened. They said they drain, steam clean and refill in a few hours. Oh well grabbed a beer to go and found a quiet pool.

OMG, I have that same scene running through my mind.

When my oldest was a baby, almost 26 years ago now, I put him in training pants and plastic pants over that. Disposable diapers would fall apart in the pool. Maybe Disney should start enforcing a swimmers and plastic pants rule to bring your non potty trained child into the adult pool.

Oh man this thread is making me sorta sick! I do have to say everytime we stay at the Disneyland Hotel in California, that pool closes at least twice during our stay due to this problem.

And we had it happen at Port Orleans French Quarter once which really stunk since that resort only has one pool. All these sad swimmers walking the bridge over to Riverside, major bummer.

I know accidents happen. I do believe all responsible parents should use swim diapers and plastics pants to protect their kids and other peoples.

Do you know how many little kids swallow water at the pool?
