oh boy, where do I begin.
I was at Meijer getting groceries and I had a huge cart full. I had just switched banks and the new checks started at 100. I went to pay and the girl says "Oh, we don't take checks till they are past 199."
Me- "It's ok, you can call the bank to verify funds, they're there"
Her- "We do don't that."
ME " Ok, but it's there, it's good. I just switched banks"
Her "Then go to the bank and get cash and then pay."
me where is it stated that you don't take checks like you are saying
her- it just is.
the manager comes over and says the same thing.
i say 'you mean to tell me that you don't take checks from anyone with a new account even with all the people coming and going with Chrysler and the Airforce base.'
her yes, that's true.
Me- well that's to bad, now you can pay someone to put all these groceries back.
now on the other end,
As a service business, I do go out of my way to help people. I NEVER am on the phone when checking them out, I kindly ask the person I"m speaking to, "Can you hold for a moment"
if it rings by the third ring and I know I still can't get it, I will answer and say Thank you for calling party store, can you hold for a moment.
I finish my transaction and give my customer at the counter my #1 priority, then I get the phone.
But I'll tell you, as the years have gone on, I have been yelled at, thrown things at me, called a liar and other stuff. Me being all there is, no corporate behind me, I'm lucky when someone does treat me or my staff with a horrible attitude, I have no problem telling them where the door is.
I had a customer that didn't want to pay for their printed napkins till they were done and she approved of them. I told her store policy was all personalized items were to be pre paid. She asked what happens if she doesn't like them, I told her we would make it right so she did like them. I added that since I wasn't that busy, i could do a proof, she said sure! She approved the proof but said, 'I have some errands to run and I do want those. Can I come back later and pick them up and pay for them then.' Thinking she was ok with what I had shown her, I said sure.
She comes back in with an older lady and when I gave them to her, she said "These are not what I wanted and I'm not going to pay for them." I was SHOCKED!
I told that yes, it was what she wanted and if she wanted to take them, she was going to pay. The older lady said "Even if we aren't happy with these, you're going to make us pay." I said, "If you want these, which was you approved, you will pay." They started going at it "That's stupid, we don't even like these and I can't believe that I have to pay for them"
Which I replied after I got the money, "Well I guess you don't have to shop here either."
So I can see how customer service people can be callous. But I also understand old "Treat others as you would want to be treated."
