Your so lucky if you have a "best" friend...does anyone else

not have a best friend? DH and I have lots of friends, but I'm 41 and have never had a best friend. I hear people talking about how they have been friends since school. I moved after elementary, middle and in HS I had a couple of friends, but they live so far away I only see them every 5-10 years, never really connected with anyone in college. I guess my best friend was my baby sis, who was a year younger than me. I miss that friendship and I'm feeling it lately.

So tell me about your best friend, if you don't have one I'd like to know why you think that's so.

My best friend is my husband. (even though we've been struggling as of late LOL)

I have lots of other friends, online and off.....but no single one BEST friend.

I've known my best friend since seventh grade, so for about seven years now. I've considered her my best friend since eighth grade. We've always been there for each other, and always been able to talk to each other when we needed an ear to hear our troubles, or just someone to gossip with or whatever. Throughout high school she helped bring out the best qualities in me. And if it weren't for her, I wouldn't be where I am now, in more ways than one. Now that we go to two different colleges that are pretty far from each other, I miss being able to see her every day. Of course we do still talk all the time and hang out like old times when we're both home. I don't know what I would have ever done without my best friend.

My best friend and I are 32...ok almost 33. We have been friends since 4th grade...YIKES almost 23 years. We have been through so much together, she is more like my sister than anything. Can't imagine life without her.

No best friend either, but I have 3 sisters, and I am real close to my older and the next sister after me. We walk every nite. One lives across the street, the oldest one block up and the youngest moved 10 miles away. And our road is Main Street USA.

We didn't plan it that way, it was just were we bought our houses. We have to remember to go in the back of our houses and talk when we are done with our walks, cause every one in town thinks we do nothing but talk to each other which isn't true, actually.

I have known my best friend since kindergarden. We had a few falling outs in jr high and high school. Her father died fairly suddenly at the end of our 11th grade year and she ended up leaving 12th grade about half way through. Several years later I had moved across the country, but when my long term boyfriend and I broke up, I moved "home" to FL. She heard through the grapevine that I had moved back, and called me the first week. I was a little aprehensive at first, just thought maybe she wanted the dirt on my breakup (the ex was someone I had gone to high school with), but I was so wrong. She was great, really really helped me through so much, and we became so close again, it was like the years hadn't even gone by. I love her to pieces, and am so thankful every day that she took the initiative to call me (she had been scared I wouldn't be interested in talking to her). Yesterday was her birthday (the day after mine) and we are going out together to celebrate on Friday night at our favorite restaurant. What makes it even greater is that last night her boyfriend of 5 years finally proposed to her (we have all been waiting for this for a long time) and we are just as excited as can be about planning everything.

The best thing about having known her for so long is that she knows all the little things (this can also be a bad thing when she teases you about them ). For example, when we were in the 7th grade and I had my first jr high dance and went with this boy I liked. I had gotten ready at her house and we went together. As the dance was ending and her parents were picking us up she sort of forced this little boy into "kissing" me. When she asked what it was like, the only thing I said was that it "felt like air" (this was because he had done it so quickly he hadn't even made contact to my mouth!!). To this day, years later she still teases me about saying it "felt like air."

Lynn: Like you, we moved around a lot when I was a kid (who moves their kid between 7th and 8th grade???). I was always "the new kid" which is always tough. I've always had good friends, still do, but I really long for a best friend. It sounds silly when I have my family and my DH (who HAS been my best friend since we started dating in high school, but it's not really the same thing, is it?). I know that I am liked by many people, people have often told me that I'm kind and thoughtful, but I seem to be missing a true best friend, someone that I know will accept me regardless of what I do or say, someone that will tell me that my outfit is horrible, someone who will know when I'm feeling blue.

I have a wonderful life, I really do. I just wish I had lifelong childhood friends that knew me way-back-when. It's no guarantee that you'll be friends forever but at least there's that history. Ah well, I'll keep looking. Life continues.

Well, I'm 13 and I had 2 sisters that were my best friends from age 3-7, but then I moved and it's like we never knew each other. For 6 years, now, I have had my best friend always there for me. I have lots of friends, but Meg is closer than a sister to me. I don't know what will happen in the future, but I hope we never lose our friendship!!

I have a few close friends, but I can definately say my DH is my best friend. He's been there for me through some of the worst things in my life. He makes me laugh, he makes me cry, he's a very special guy.

I didn't have the luxury of having a sister actually. I had a hellish stepsister, but let's not get into that one LOL

I guess I've had different best friends over time. But to this day I have what I consider two true best friends. I've been friends with them since I was 10 years old, they've been through the good and bad with me (including divorces, custody battles, and other misc crisises)

Of course my husband is my best friend too as he should be, but I think you are referring to best friends on a social level.

My best friend has been my friend since the first day of 9th grade. She thought I was a senior. I think that's really funny since now at 25 I get carded everywhere. She and I are roommates in an apartment near Boston. She helped me through hard times and I did the same for her. We have the best time together. We still tell stories that start with "Remember that time in high school..." Usually the story that follows is about something dumb I did in high school. I was the dumb one who always made a fool of herself. Actually I still am. I think I would have self destructed years ago without her around. So she is the best.

I have known my best friend since about 9th grade(41 now). We didn't go to school together but we met through a mutual friend. We are closer to each other than we are/were to our own sisters. We are so much alike that we have gone shopping seperately and bought the same exact shirt in the same exact color. We were out together when she met her husband and we were also out together when I met my husband. We were in each others wedding. Today was the saddest day of our friendship. She is moving to MO at the beginning of next week and today we had to say good bye.

Im lucky to have 2 best friends. Best friend #1 and I have been best friends for 22 years, since we were teenagers.
Best friend #2 and I have been best friends for 16 years. They are both awesome ladies and I can count on them when the going gets tough.

Most of my friends in high school were boys, I found the girls to be vindictive and vicious.

I'm 38 and hands down my best friend is a girl I've known since we were 5. We went to the same grade school, different HS's, and I went on to college. Nothing changed though. We're still best friends. Sometimes I don't want to make new friends because I hardly get to see my best friend as much as I want so I don't want to use that time on anyone else. My friend and I never had a fight.
I would do ANYTHING for her and she for me.
On the other hand, my 40 year old sister never had a best friend. Sometimes we thought it was because other girls were jealous of her. She's beautiful, great body, wonderful sense of humour, and smart. Just recently I've noticed that my sister talks an aweful lot about herself. Nothing else will interest her. I think I know why she doesn't have a best friend. Both sides have to give. ON the bright side, my sister may be on the way to a best friend. A girl she's been friends with for 4 years is beginning to turn into great friendship. I hope she gets it because there's nothing like knowing that there is one person in the world you can rely on entirely, call anytime, show up at her door around 6AM for coffee and be welcomed with open arms, and not wear make-up when you visit.
My husband would be my second runner up for a best friend. But it's no fun talking to him about how he doesn't do anything around the house. At least my best friend has a husband like mine and we can go to town talking about them!

Another one who's DH is her best friend. I have friends from high school that I see in Church. But, DH is the best friend that I have.

I think it goes without saying DH is my best friend. He's my partner, so obviously no other friend will ever come close to what I feel about him.

Next in line on the friendship scale would be my brother Jack, he and I are the closest of my 8 siblings and I consider him to be one of my best friends. My sister and I are good friends as well, but we are pretty far apart in age (9 years).

For people that aren't related to me, my best friend is Debi. We've known each other since 6th grade and have been inseperable ever since. We were in each other's weddings and are godparents to each other's kids, and our DH's are best friends as well.

My best friend in grammar & high school into our twenties...then she married and moved away,then divorced. WE lost touch with one another and no matter how many internet searches I do-can't find her.

On the other hand I've kept in touch with my pen-pal Jude from New Zealand since 8th grade. We both loved art and music and ironically do the same sort of work (architectural drafting).

I have three "best" girlfriends - all from college. We are still very close. We were all in each other's weddings. We talk on the phone a lot and get together as much as we can. I love my husband and he is a true friend, but I really don't know what I would do without those three "best" friends of mine! It's so much fun. Anytime we get together, we can instantly pick up right where we left off, no matter how long it's been. We've seen each other through a lot and I know I'm lucky to have them!

My sister is another "best" friend. She is four years younger than me and we are extremely close. We live about four hours apart, but talk on the phone pretty much every day.
