your blood type and your children's blood type

Your Dh has a hidden - allele...

Or the Mailman has some explaining to do! :teeth:

:scratchin

I know my Mom's blood type is A+. I thought my Dad's was B+. Maybe I'm wrong. I am 0-. So, my Dad would have to be BO. Correct?

Correct. They both have to have the O allele to pass to you.

Okay, you all had me freaked out for a minute.

I looked up some info and parents with an A type and a B type can have a child with an O type blood.

I'm glad I didn't call my parents and yell at them. :rotfl:

DW is O- and I am A+ so she had to have the shot for both pregancies and she still hasn't forgiven me for that ;)

My oldest child has my blood type but our youngest did not have either mine or DW's, so I had to google blood types to realize that you don't always inherit one or the other :)

After all, I might have had to convince my wife that the child was really hers. :teeth:

Rh negative is recessive and so is the O type.

So two parents who are A+ and B+ can have an O- kid, if they both carry the recessive O and the recessive -. Both AA and AO will produce Type A blood.

We know my DH carries the O, as he is B+ and his Dad is B and his mom is O (she had nothing but O to give him, so he must carry the O allele). I am A+ but don't know if I carry O. So it would be possible for our kids to have any blood type if I do carry the O, and if I don't, they could be A or AB. DD1 is A+ like me but we don't know what DD2 is. DD1's blood type was done at birth, but they didn't do DD2's when she was born :confused3

::yes:: and if you eat greasy KK donuts then your blood type is Ragu! ;) :rotfl2:

I didn't realize it was common practice to know your blood type. :confused3 I found out mine when I was in the hospital having dd. I found out hers right after she was born (obviously). But that doesn't mean I remember what they are. ;)
