Your BEST WDW theme park secret! Part II

Hi gang!

I just returned from a quick weekend trip to Disney. I didn't do much, but I did meet a wonderful Cast Member working inside DHS (Ray from Portland, OR). (I have his picture still on my camera, but once I get it off there, I will post it here for all of you to see.) He worked in a gift shop on Hollywood and Sunset. He possessed a wealth of Disney information, and I encourage each of you to meet him next time you are at DHS.

He gave me some "hidden" information that he learned on a Cast Member tour of the Haunted Mansion. Here is what he told me. I confirmed all of this with another CM working at the Mansion:

There are SEVEN (7) hidden Jack Skellingtons inside the Haunted Mansion. Here is where you can find them:

1. Inside the first "room" you enter, watch the aging portrait over the fireplace. Once the final, skeletal image appears look over the Master's right eye. You will see a shadow impression of Jack's face.

2. Once your Doombuggy enters the Library, look at the table by the Donald Duck "rocking" chair. On top of the table is a book--the binding of the book features a Jack. Also, on the floor--there is another Jack.

(As you know, the Library is very dark. Both CMs suggested riding HM during EMH at night when it is empty and either shining a flashlight on the scene or taking a flash picture. Do this at night, as flash ruins the experience for other Guests and is normally not permitted on "dark" rides.)

3. Enter the Attic...in case you aren't familiar with the whole Attic story, Google Jack Spence from All Ears and read his blog post(s) on the Attic. There is a whole story and set up inside the Attic. LOTS of hidden and fascinating information inside the ATTIC!

In the Attic-Husband No. 2--Table on your right--look for a plush Sally; also look immediately to the left of the 2nd husband at the cover of a big book for a picture of Jack

Husband No. 5--Plush Jack and a JS snowglobe both in this scene. The snowglobe is one that used to be sold in the Parks, so you may recognize it.

Other "Hidden" item(s):

The actual ax (the Bride used to kill her husbands) lies on the floor at her feet. It is a little hard to see (I could never see it), but if the light is just right, I have heard you can spot it.

There is a bird cage in each scene - this signifies the Bride's "flying the coop" from each marriage.

In the last scene, there is a suitcase - signifying her leaving and moving on.

The Raven on the outside of the house once you get to the attic scene - his name is Lucifer. He was originally designed to be the narrator of your ride, but once speakers were put into the Doombuggies, the need for the crow disappeared.

**********

I know these facts may be publicly and commonly available around the web, but I never knew they existed.

It was nice to meet Ray and hear all his stories.

**********

Here is something else Ray told me --the largest Hidden Mickey used to be DHS, but when they put the Sorcerer Mickey hat in, they covered it up.

If you look at the ground surrounding the hat (I did this), you can still see Mickey's two eyes and his grin. These are gray-colored cement areas, and if you stand at the front of and under Mickey's hat, you can see the eyes perfectly. (Mickey's face points toward the GMR.)

Mickey's smile can still be seen in front of the GMR Theater.

If you get a Guide Map for DHS and turn it upside down, you can see Mickey's nose and smile still on the map in lightly-shaded gray.

**********

Since they've covered this giant HM up, the newest and largest HM is now Expedition Everest.

Disney, itself, tells CMs this when they take the EE backstage CM tour...Ray said if you pull up EE on Google earth you can see it perfectly.

I haven't done THAT yet, but I can't wait for my boys and I to check it out. (UPDATE: A friend of mine did and posted it on my fb wall. AMAZING.)

**********

Ray is a true delight. I think I am going to do a blog post on him and the information I just posted here.

I can't wait to ride HM again in the future....this is going to be a lot of fun trying to find all the Hidden stuff in there!

I hope you guys enjoyed these new secrets!!!!

Thanks!!! Very cool info!

Thanks for the new info, Dcanoli! I emailed you a week ago or so asking for the list of secrets, as I'll be going on vacation soon too. I'm glad you had so much fun! :)

Could you please post a pic of Ray when you get the time? He reminds me of a CM I used to visit when I was young at DHS (at that time MGM), he would tell me all sorts of secrets. I was fascinated by him, and would spend at least an hour with him every time I'd see him. He would hang out around Animation Courtyard, and I haven't seen him for at least 8 years! :( He told me the same info regarding the ground DHS HM, but since the hat was in the way the RNR track was the largest HM, as in the three loops at the beginning. Here is a satellite image of the EE HM that I wasn't aware of until you posted about it:

Thanks again! I can't wait to read the other secrets in your list! :)

Nightmare Before Christmas is my all time favorite disney movie. (huge Danny Elfman fan):thumbsup2i was crushed when i found out florida does not do the HM decoration for Jack!!! I am over excited about our November trip!!! i will ride it several times looking for it all!
Thanks a ton!

Wow! Fantastic! Thanks for posting that link!

I also emailed asking for the list, but have not received it. I will try and email it again.

Hey! I forgot two things!

1. When they refurbed the Mansion, you may have noticed they added Surround Sound to the stretching room.

Stay behind after everyone leaves (as long as you can); you will hear the Gargoyles giggling and laughing, and if you are REALLY quiet, you can hear a small, faint voice whisper, "GET OUT."

(Yes, it's there; I heard it this weekend.)

2. Husband No. 5 -- look very closely -- Do you recognize that Imagineer? It's the world famous JOE RHODE! :)
