You know you're from Pennsylvania when....

This was no little hurricane. Not only the Wyoming Valley but the Susquehanna Valley was seriously hit. The river came to within a few inches of our house and normally it was about a quarter mile away!!!

There's another "Pennsylvanianeese" thing.
You know how to pronounce AND SPELL "Susquehanna" (Sus- kwa-han- ah)

ROAD DIRECTIONS!!! ???
You shoud try that in some of the "Dutchy" areas!!! And I don't mean the Lancaster (Lank-iss-ter) area! I'm talking about the "boonies" areas.

Example:

"How do I get to --- " (what ever you're looking for)

"Vell, you go daun da rote...."

"Wait, excuse me. To where?"

" Da rote!"

"Where's 'rote' ?"

"DA ROTE! DA TING YOU DRIFE ON!"

"Oh, right, gotcha. The "rote". Go ahead."

"Aund you turn leff at da olt meel"

"Ahh-- is that on the left or right?"

"Ach! Iss not dere any more! Id burnt daun sixty yearss ago!"

"Oh, yeah (not that old) I remember that"

This is what you get for asking for directions in "certain" areas of the "Dutch" country.

I grew up in PA--and the state you describe sounds nothing like where I grew up---oh wait

I grew up in Philadelphia---the sub state of PA----so I suppose it is a whole different world

Thanks, that was very funny! And I agree Isaly's chipped ham is the best! I especially love it with a tall glass of pop.

Just remember, my fellow Pennsylvanians, that cheesesteak-lovin' Ed Rendell won the Governor race over Primanti-lovin' Mike Fisher!

Cheesesteaks and Ed Rendell RULE!! :)

I prefer to go right out side of the only good part of the state and go to the Strip!

Ah! Now I know why I never heard those words!

Hey yo! Philly girl here, sorta. No pop, soda. No chipped ham (thanks Pam :) ), cheese steak or soft pretzel. No "rotes", we go up or down the avenue or street. :p Some people say they're going "down the street to visit Aunt Sue", some say, (from the same location), they're "goin' up the street". :p

*sigh* I SO miss hoagies....

And don't forget we all know what nebby and cupboards mean.

I grew up on Sah Side and used to shop at the Jynt Igl. My stepdad worked at Jaynell LOL.

I grew up in the "Burgh" and my mom grew up in Sliberty and we both grew up on Isaly's chipped ham and my favorite, Orange pop.

While I was in Ocean City this past summer I asked the man in the Deli for a pound of chipped ham and he just stared at me:confused: I was like, What??

I am so ROTFLMBO!!!!! This are hysterical. Beast, I am LOL. I was thinking the same thing!! When you ask for directions here, you get the old "turn where so and so USED TO BE!!!!!! LOL LOL
I live near Boyertown, where we are surrounded by the Pennsylvania Dutchies. We are 10 minutes from the Famous Zerns Farmers Market, where they sell the most amazing things.
And, scrapple is just plain gross. It's made of what's left over after they make hot dogs!
I love going to the firehall for Sunday breakfast. It's my favorite place to go!!!
Saffron, we're soda here, too.

Oh Goofy Girl, those are fightin' words!!
Just remember, my fellow Pennsylvanians, that cheesesteak-lovin' Ed Rendell won the Governor race over Primanti-lovin' Mike Fisher!

;)
Did you see that commercial over on the Eastern side of the state? I have to admit that that was one stupid commercial. Although the two sides and their cabbie commercials made me snort more than once!!

Saffon, dear - it is POP!!!!!!!

TC,
As a matter of fact, we do warsch our clothes - and in the summer we head down over the hill to take a dip in the crick. And here we have breakfast, dinner and supper. None of that high-falootin' lunch and dinner stuff!

Pam

Actually Columbus and Pittsburgh are very similiar nowadays.

I would assume the best cheesesteaks in Ohio can be found in Columbus. (More a PA reference than Pittsburgh)

We have Iron City Beer

Those that aren't Browns fans are Steelers fans (don't ask me - I'm a Deadskins fan......I mean Redskins)

There was an old joke that when the license plates said "You've got a friend in PA", they should say "Yous got a friend" in the east and "Youn's got a friend" in the west.

I can make fun - I'm a Slippery Rock girl who lived in Philly for many years!:p

Someone I work with who just moved to Pa. from Boston asked me why everytime it snows,do people feel the need to run out and buy all the meat, bread and milk off the shelves? I could only laugh because it's true. One word of snow and people are out buying their snow meat and milk!
