Re: whether it's auction interference to email a former buyer to ask whether an item you want to buy washes well--I would go ahead and do it, but use a throw-away email address (Yahoo, Hotmail, etc.), not your Ebay email address, to ask the question.

Is there some way to email another ebayer without it going through ebay? That would be the only way you could choose to use a different email address, and I have been under the impression that communications between ebay members must be via ebay's "Ask seller a question" link only. So, unless the buyers in question are sellers as well, is there even a way to contact them? I realize that some ebayers still use an email address as an ID, but that practice is discouraged.

So, the topic of appropriateness aside, how would you even do it?

Ooh, Mrs. Snowgod, I didn't think about that. I list my email address on my "About Me" page, so I frequently receive emails from non-registered email addresses. I forgot that you have to go through Ebay now in order to email other buyers and sellers.

I realize that some ebayers still use an email address as an ID, but that practice is discouraged.

eBay wants the control so much, that they have now made people using their email as their ID to change it. You'll notice you won't see but a few of them around anymore. I'm not sure when the deadline was to change your ID or they'll change it for you, but it may be the 1st of December, judging by how many recently changed.

I assume your about me page may have your addy, but I don't know if eBay will take it down if they find it. YOu are allowed to have a link to your website..so that may be a way to get it.

In this case I was thinking more in terms of that the item pictured in the auction was different from the item that was shipped,

I'm too lazy to go back and reread what she said..but I thought the description said that wasn't the picture of the item..it was similar or something like that. As buyers, you always have to be on your toes. Isn't that a shame?

Hi, I asked this yesterday and I think that it got lost in the conversation.

Anyways, could anyone tell me about bidpay? Can you use credit cards to pay for Ebay auctions? and if so, who pays the fee?

I used c2it once I found out that the buyer is the one to pay the fees and that was kinda nice.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

bafmrf,

I got the same thing in an e-mail from ebay this morning. Sounds pretty good to me.

I've been a little lazy since returning from the World and need to get back in the swing of things but have no motivation. How hard is it to keep up with all this during the holdiays? Is it worth it?

Thanks,
Cass

WOW, I was going to list some things later today!!!! YAY for me!

Just wanted to be sure you are all aware that whatever price you set (the "fixed price") is what the item will sell for.. There will be no "bidding up"..

I have a bunch of stuff ready right now that I'm not too particular about so I'm going to go ahead and put it up.

Also got a Christmas gift for my DD today - with the fixed price - for a little over ONE DOLLAR !! Needless to say I'll be checking on other items all day... :)

Where do you find stuff for sale on a fixed price? Do I have to look under the particular category, and then go from there?

Or is there a way I can search just for fixed price listings?

--------------------------------------

This is how I do it..

I type a specific category into the search - like Disney; books; or whatever..

Then on the left (where it breaks it down more) I choose what I want more specifically and then click on that.

Once that page comes up you then click on "Buy It Now" instead of All or Auction. (The "fixed price" is showing as BIN)

Then when that page comes up - according to what is at the top - I either click "going, going, gone" or "lowest price first"..

I been getting some great gifts that way for the past few days! :)

Has anyone successfully used the Fixed Price special on a relist that they change to Fixed?

I have an item that I get in quantity and keep relisting, and half the time it sells with BIN. I'd like to do a separate auction using the fixed special, but don't want to type it all out from scratch.

TIA!

sure, you can change it to a fixed on a relist. I did about 50 of them today : )

Doris

I keep forgetting to ask...

Did that guy ever get back to you about the magazines or pay for them?

Hope so!

Yes, finally last night he paid, after I fild the initial NPB. I meant to post. Thanks for asking. I was really dreading having to relist them all.

The seller did email me and he apologized that the item was not what I thought it would be. He said the picture came directly from the manufacturer. He also said the box was intact when he shipped it. He offered me a refund less shipping. Do you think I should pursue getting the shipping cost back? Or just cut my losses?

Martha

Martha,
My own opinion--the seller should reimburse your shipping because HE made a mistake. He should not weasel out of this. I think I would write back to him and say something like, "I expect complete reimbursement for the item plus shipping since the item was not as represented."

Then if he continues to refuse to send the entire refund, I would tell him I was filing mail fraud charges. (It's easy to file with the on-line form, and I've heard the Post Office contacts the seller ASAP).

I have bought and sold on Ebay for over 5 years and I think it's outrageous that he doesn't want to refund shipping. The one time I made an error in my description, I refunded all costs to my buyer including the cost of shipping the item back to me to return it. That's the ethical thing to do. I wonder how many people he's made this "mistake" with before?

I definitely agree with floridagirrl2 - the seller should be able to discern whether or not the photo displayed was accurate or not. And if the box was intact, why did he tape the wrapping to it?

Good luck!
