I just got back from lurking around the discussion boards on ebay. It seems alot of people really don't like paypal at all. They were complaining that paypal makes lots of errors on your accounts, and never corrects them, they never respnd to your e-mails and they were saying no one should use them. But, after reading most of the posts here, I don't remember anyone complaining about paypal. I didn't start sellling yet, I still have to get a few things together first, but now I'm questioning if I should use paypal or not. I would hate not to make it convenient for a buyer. I think alot of people would rather not make a trip to the bank or post office for a money order/cashier check. Has anyone here had any problems with paypal. Are there any pointers you can give me about the service. TIA....

Denise

It seems alot of people really don't like paypal at all.

I'm on several eBay boards (although I seldom frequent the actual eBay owned boards) and I seldom hear any complaints about Paypal (well..other than the cost LOL!). I can't remember the last time I even heard a complaint. They were down for a bit about 6 months ago..I wasn't happy that few days when it was going on..but eBay had just taken them over, and so we just blamed eBay.

Paypal has never had an error in my account (however I can see where someone would think it's an error when you get an e-check, and they place it when it clears on yoru account..or when you refund, you see the persons name twice). The few times I have called with a question (I have a business account, I have no idea if non business gets a phone number), I get through within 5 minutes, and when I email (I had questions about getting a lower rate), I heard back within 12 hours..which is darn good when you consider all the email they must get.

So far (where's teh wood), I have never had a chargeback..which I understand can really make you hate paypal..but if someone charges back to their cc..what else do people expect Paypal to do, but to get the money back from you?

I'd go with it..it's simplified my eBay life.

But the final value fees from these deadbeat bidders sure adds up.

I don't understand why you would be still paying the fvfee's. Those have nothing to do with feedback..everything to do with getting backyour end of auction fee. Plus, if you relist the item (although you might try second chance first, in hopes one of the lessor bidders still wants the item), and it does sell the second time, you don't have to pay the relisting fee. That puts you back to square one.

I wonder if it's like resort issues on these boards.... a few people post negative experiences, and the thousands who are happy never say a word. Then it looks like the resort has a problem.

I've never had a problem with them mischarging me, and I've been happy with the customer service phone line when I needed it.

Hi ms. snowgood and Dmrick!

I know I should file to get my final value fees back but I am still trying to build feedback and am so worried that if I file to get my money back, these deadbeat bidders will feel threatened by Ebay and me and give me a retaliotory feedback even though I still have not given them a negative.

I know, I know I need to be tougher and hopefully one of these days(anyday) I will be.

Its like these people ignore my auction rules which really irks me.
:( :(

It really doesn't help you or others to allow non-payer bidders to "get away with" not paying. It is also not helpfull (to other sellers) if you do not leave neg. feedback on those who do not pay.

I have only had to file one NPB and a few days after I did the buyer did pay for the item. So it may be a way to get the buyer to pay.

Wow, C.Ann, this sounds like a very exciting thing to do! I'll mention it to my dad... he's already selling comic books on eBay, maybe he'll save some of his profit for our next Disney trip :p

One has nothing to do with the other. When eBayers talk about retaliatory feedback, we generally are talking about when we leave a neg for a non payer, and they leave one back. That is the part of eBay feedback that everyone agrees is unfair...that a non payer gets to leave feedback at all. Sometimes they may leave it in retailiation for your reporting him..but all you have to do is respond that he never paid. People who do pay attention to feedback will see that. But again..that doesn't happen all that often. A lot of non payers are newbies..they just move on.

However, in this case, you are actually letting them get away with much more than you should. Your fees for one thing, and as much as I personally think the feedback "thing" is flawed..I definately realize the only way to get rid of deadbeats, isn't by leaving a neg..but by making my voice heard, and herald them toward their three unique "strikes". Three non payment reports, from three unique people, and he's outta there. If the person before you had done it, these jokers may have already been naru'd, and wouldn't have been able to bid on your item. As you can tell, while I really don't care if you leave feedback, I DO care if you file for your fees back...that's what takes the bad guy out of the game.

I totally agree with Doris. Those strikes hurt and they work, I personally know of three people who can no longer use ebay because of their stupidity...

Don't be thier victim. File the NPB, get back your fees and relist your item. I've done it twice in the last month and never heard anything from the "perps".

Right now I have four potential NPBs.... ugh. The process is slow but worth it.

As for PayPal, Mrs. Snow God hit it right on the head when she said
I wonder if it's like resort issues on these boards.... a few people post negative experiences, and the thousands who are happy never say a word. Then it looks like the resort has a problem.
.

There is an old saying that goes something like this, A satisfied customer will tell ten people, an Unsatisfied customer will tell a THOUSAND!

I wish I could ONLY accept PayPal. I'm pretty new with it but I've never had a problem and LOVE the instant cash. I keep my own files and information so I don't depend on them to do it for me.

I don't know of any entity SOMEONE has a problem with. PayPal so far, has been a real boon for me and the simplicity of it is priceless.

And BTW, as a BUYER, I don't buy from a seller who does not accept PayPal. It's just too much of a hassle and very time consuming to go thru the money order or check thing.

Ditto that!

Make it 3... although there have been one or 2 exceptions when I REALLLLLLY wanted the item and the only seller at the time ONLY took MOs... yuck, what a pain!

OK when I start selling, I'm going to be part of Paypal. THis selling is taking me a while to, because I'm the type that no matter how many times I read something it takes some time to sink in. I just don't want to make any mistakes. I think I almost fully understand the shipping guidlines on the USPS. I figure on using priority mail to ship. I think that will be pretty quick for the items to get to the buyer, right? I already have a paypal account from the buying I did, but I'm not sure if the small amount of items are worth it for me to upgrade to a premier account, I'll have to go back to the paypal site to re-read and re-read till it sinks in. I'm sure once I get started this whole thing won't be that hard, after all I'm raising 3 girls, 2 of them teens who are driving and a grumpy husband and I can't imagine anything harder than that. (LOL)...Thanks for all the help & input your all giving me

Thank you for your confidence.

I am going to file NPB Alerts on 3 of these non paying bidders. I will not leave a negative but will file. I will only leave a negative if they give me a negative.

Okay I am getting there. Slowly but surely.

Thank you I really appreciate the support. It really is a confidence booster.:) I will post an update.

I'm also interested in beginning to sell on Ebay. I have many disney pins that I'd like to sell along with books, toys, etc... I'll be posting pictures but how do I find out when these Disney pins were issued so that can describe them more accurately in my descriptions on ebay? Thanks! :)

:earsboy: Staying at the Pop Century in February, 2004 :earsgirl:

I also started out selling Disney pins, but if you are looking to make any profit, it is hard. I think the pin market is rather saturated on ebay. If you want to sell off some extras, and you don't especially mind taking a loss on the original prices, then it is a decent venue to sell pins. Or if you bought a 1.50 trader somewhere and traded with a CM for some LE, then you could make a profit, too.

I don't mean to sound mercenary, but clearly, all of us reading and posting to this thread are looking to make enough $$$ to help fund (or completely fund ;) ) our trips. Sometimes the attitude of pin traders (on DIS boards and elsewhere) is that pin trading is meant for fun and the people who sell pins on ebay are sharks and worthless human beings (or something less than wonderful, anyway!). So, hopefully nobody with that perspective will judge me here!

Anyway, to get to the point, you can get historical info on Pinpics - Click here for the Pinpics site
Use the search feature and you'll find info that pertains to the pins you enter. This is all done on a voluntary basis, and is very helpful info.

HTH - have fun!

Someone posted a couple of pages back that you don't have to worry about the singular/plural thing anymore because ebay had changed the searches to bring up both. I just did a search on pins and pin and did not find that to be true. It still only brought up the word I typed. I think this is something ebay should change, but apparently, at least according to my research, they haven't. Has anyone else had a different experience?

I figure on using priority mail to ship

You might sell your items for more money if you use cheaper shipping methods. If you have books, video games, or CDs you can use media mail (up to 1lb is only $1.42). If you have a very light weight item like a postcard then first class is the way to go. I know when I bid I compare not only prices but shipping too. So if there are 2 items and one ships media mail and the other priority I'll bid on the media mail one.

Has anyone else had a different experience?

I haven't tried it..but this is the actual announcement:

***Plurals and Alternate Spellings***
Date: 08/01/03 Time: 03:19:29 PM PDT

We are pleased to introduce an enhancement to Search that will help you find more relevant search results by including the plural version of a singular word (or vice versa) in your search results. Search will also now return alternate spellings of certain words. Examples of the changes are below.

Plurals: If you search on the keyword Bike, search may return results matching Bike and also return results matching Bikes.

Alternate spellings: If you search on the keyword Ax, search may return results for Ax and also Axe. This will only apply to certain keywords.

If you do not wish to search for both spellings, or only want to find the singular form of a keyword, you can put your keyword in quotation marks. For example, entering "Bike" in the search box will return only items for that specific spelling. You can find a more extensive list of search commands by clicking here.

We hope this enhancement will make it easier and more efficient to find the items you are looking for.

My weekend was wierd! I had 11 auctions end between Sat & Sun, and only 4 of them sold, however while I was listing my new Sunday items yesterday, I had 2 BINs within an hour of posting the new listings! I love that! Plus, one of the items that sold Sat. night was another 25 cent yard sale item and it went for $26!!!! I love that, too!

Hope everybody else did well this weekend.
:D

Is anyone else having trouble with the Andale Counters? More often then not the counter does not show up on the page when I list an item, even thought the "bubble" is marked. Usually I just go into the andeal site and add counter. NP. But today I am unable to add counters even though it says next to the item "add counter."

Is it just me?
