I have a question!!!

Yesterday a listed a small Pooh hinged box on Ebay for a starting price of $5. Its only in its 1st day and is up to about $9. The problem is someone has email me wanting to by it right now for $60!!!!

Is it fair to stop the auction and cancell all the bids so far? I have never done anything like this before.

I have got around 14 emails for this box in 24 hours, 2 from Japan!!!

Is anyone else having trouble with the Andale Counters?

Yes, I am. I've not been able to access the site all weekend, and today I'm getting in sometimes, but also getting garbled info. I was so hooked on viewing my auctions that way!

Given that reaction, it is likely that the box will do very well. Only you can decide whether or not to take the $60 and run, but if the buyer doesn't want to bid fairly, he's probably pretty sure he can't win your auction for $60.

In your shoes, I would refuse to end the auction early, but then, I love risk. I also think that ending it is less than fair play, but it is your decision to make. You would have to state a reason to ebay when you cancel the auction, and if you feel uncomfortable bending the truth, that could be an issue for you, too. Good luck with your decision... let us know how it turns out!

Mrs. SG: My weekend went well! I am moving and I'm DESPARATE to get rid of some of my JUNK and it's selling like mad!

I am STILL amazed at what some people will BUY!

I went to my half price Monday 2nd hand place this morning and found 2 out of print Disney films for $2.50!! It aMAZES me what some people will give away without knowing it's value! :teeth:

Most of my auctions have been ending in a staggered fashion since last night..

Not my "best" week.............but sure as heck not my WORST week either!! ;)

I agree...it's amazing what some people will buy - and the prices they will pay for it..

Gotta get listing tonight and tomorrow.. Loads of my own junk - and of course I just "had" to hit some garage sales over the weekend.. LOL

There is NO WAY I would end that auction early!! If you've had that kind of a response so far, you are sitting on a gold mine !!!!

Wait it out - and I think you will be VERY pleased!!!!!!!!

I had a really good weekend. All of my stuff sold! I am also still in shock that an outfit of my daughter's sold for $49.99!!! I was just going to give this away to Goodwill, but was convinced to try eBay by this thread! Thanks so much. I already have enough to pay for my hotel portion of the trip. I may have to upgrade to something better if I keep selling like this.

Also, how long do you wait to issue a NPB? How many times do you harass people? This is the first time someone hasn't paid right away with Paypal or sent a check immediately.

Hi Maggie, glad you had a good weekend...
I stick pretty closely with the ebay guidelines and my terms of service - so I send the Payment reminder in 3 days, then a personally written, friendly message to please contact me, then I request contact info at 7 days (my TOS says communication in 3 days, payment within 7). So at 7 days, when I request the contact info, I may or may not call. Often the fact that they know you are requesting this is enough to get them moving.
If not, then I use the email warning notification (via ebay again), and that one says wait 10 days to resolve the issue. At 10 days, if no response, I file for the FVF back.

Robin, I can't believe that you have time to list auctions in the middle of moving! You must be WonderWoman! :teeth:

I sympathize... moving stinks! After moving 4 years ago, I swore that I will never move again. Well... maybe to FL as a snowbird someday...:teeth:

Good luck, I hope it all goes well for you. When do you actually complete the move?

Mrs. Snowgod,
Are these things that you have written in your auction or is in general and applicable to everyone on eBay? I don't have anything like that written on my auction. Should I? I haven't been paid or even contacted about an auction that ended July 31. The person did fill out the checkout on the 31st saying they were sending a check, but no check as of yet.

Well I finally have my own digital camera. My dad surprised me last week for my birthday. It isn't a really fancy one but it should work for what I need it for at least for awhile. If I need a really fancy one, I can still borrow my friends.

I've been having a lot of fun with it and trying to figure it out.

Yes, here is what I say... in the ebay Seller's Instructions Field:

Seller's payment instructions:
Winning Bidder should please reply to my messages within 3 days of the closing bid. If you choose to send a Money Order, please email and alert me to that fact, within 3 days of the closing bid. PayPal Payments preferred... Credit cards accepted. If you pay within 3 days via PayPal, I will receive immediate notification from PayPal, no need to email. Shipping is completed within 24 to 48 hours of receipt of payment, and I will notify you of the timeframe when I acknowledge your payment.

And then in the text of my item description:
Credit Card payments via PayPal Only, or Money Orders/certified funds accepted by mail. No Personal Checks, Please! Communication with winning bidder is expected within 3 days of close of auction. Payment must be received within 7 days of close of auction, unless other arrangements have been made in advance.

I got a little repetitive on the communication thing because I was having people send MOs and not let me know they were coming. I am slightly lenient on the "payment within 7 days" if I have been contacted and told the MO is on the way. But if I don't hear from the bidder in 3, I use the payment reminder, and if no reply in 7 days, I follow the process originally described.

This is not an ebay policy, just what I choose to use. Some sellers say payment within 10 days, others want it within 3 or 5 days - I'm noticing more sellers accepting PayPal ONLY within 3 days... boy I wish! While it is up to you to choose your TOS, it really is wise to post these things in your auction in order to avoid any confusion or assumptions.

Good luck!

Anyway, TIA if anyone can help. I can also email Baconbuttie, but I figure several of you are using this tool and maybe I'm not alone??? [/B]

Ok, I'll bite, what is Baconbuttie??? :)

I just read in another post that it is ok to give your Ebay name & mention your auctions. I have a bunch of Disney beanies that i'm trying to get rid of for my mom (she collected them for my niece who's shown no interest in most of them & moved to a smaller house so can't have them anyway). Anyway my ebay name is also DKOSTEL (I know I totally lack imagination :)).

Feel free to delete or edit this if I broke any rules - if not thanks for reading.

I deleted my post, sorry, I didn't know it wasn't ok:) Not a problem!!!:p

I ask for PayPal in 3 days, money orders in 10 days. But I usually wait 10 days for all payments. Then I start the NPB process. I usually email them once more at the 10 day mark alerting them to the fact that I need to receive payment within 24 hours or I will be filing an NPB. I mention in that email that it's not being done out of spite, merely to recover fees that I've already had to pay to eBay when they agreed to purchase the item. Knock on wood, I've only ever had to file one NPB and I've been selling for over a year.

Wow, I post an answer to this last night and it just disappeared! Here I go again!

I am actually moving in October! This gives me lots of time to sell the stuff I don't want to move. It's amazing what you find when you're moving. It used to upset me, now I'm delighted to find something else to sell! :teeth:

Happy dancing tonight because I just realized that I've got enough in my eBay earnings account to pay for our hotel for our May 2004 trip. And that's at full rack rate! (Crossing my fingers for a code when the time comes!)

We've got free AP's (which were a gift from our Disney wedding) and our airline tickets are going to free (birthday gifts from my Mom  )

So now I just have to eBay enough for food and souvies and we're set for a 'free' trip! I just had to share my excitment with ya'll because I knew you'd understand. And I wanted to thank C.Ann for her continuted motivation - you rock! :bounce: :Pinkbounc

I don't want to take any chances on seeing this thread closed. We were asked to not post our eBay names in this thread, some time ago. I can see why it would be easy to miss it, it's such a long thread. Perhaps we need a moderator to mention it again, if that is still the rule. We are not allowed to sell on these boards, so that's prob why she said it (I really don't remember why, it's been so long).

The mod mentioned at that time that if you wanted someone's name to use the private message available to you at the bottom of people's messages..or just tell people if they want it. to PM you for it.

Please..lets keep CAnn's thread going!

That's a good point. I didn't remember either where the info was posted, although I do recall your recommending that people not post their IDs for the sake of their own privacy; I would think that is another good reason to refrain. There are no doubt countless lurkers who might decide to get wierd on an ID they picked up here... I don't like to focus on the negative in anybody, but given the NPBs people have been discussing lately, there is no sense courting trouble.

A few questions that you have probably heard before, but...
1. Without a digital camera, is it possible to get Disney pin pictures on the ebay site in order to auction them off? I have so many pins and i know there are others who would like to bid on some of them, and the title of your thread grabbed my attention.
2. for a newbie to being the seller (been the buyer many times), what are some important things i need to know?
Do appreciate your patience in responding. I am trying to go back and reread the entire thread. Thanks. :)
