You HAVE to try this!! EBAY your way to DISNEY!!

If you are shipping within your state, in most instances sales tax should be collected. However, that being said, I don't know of any instances (at least not on the boards I'm on) where a casual seller has had a problem with their state for not collecting sales tax on garage sale type items. I do know of a person who was reported for not collecting sales tax by what seemed to be a disgruntled friend who didn't like that their "friend" was doing so well on eBay, and the person selling was fined. She collects sales tax now. Are you supposed to be collecting sales tax on all items sold and shipped within your state (if your state has sales tax)? Yes.
I treat ebay as a business. As such, I collect for the state of NY, sales tax, and pay it to them.

OK, DMRick, or whoever else can help me. I still can't get the USPS shipping assistant program to work for me. I can't get it to print. I type in all the info on the shipping page form, but I just cannot figure out how to get it to print a label for me. I hit the submit button and it gives me a confirmation #, but I can't figure out any way to print a label. If I hit the Display Label button it tells me the viewer isn't working or something like that. Any suggestions? Thank in Advance!

Also, I encountered a customer service issue at the PO tonight. I usually print my Priority Mail labels online so I can get the free DC. Now, I just print the label, I don't pay for postage online because I don't have extremely accurate scales. Until tonight, every single time I have been to the PO with one of these packages, they have scanned the bar code before they put the postage on the package. Well, tonight, the person taking my packages didn't scan the labels, and when I asked her about it she said they didn't do it:confused: I told her it had always been done and asked her to do it for me anyway. Well, at that point she basically refused:mad: She said that the reason it's free is because it is supposed to make it easier for them. Well, I can understand that, but I don't want to not have DC on my packages, and I wasn't sure I would if she didn't scan them. She gave me her super's # and told me to call him. (This is at 10:30PM and I need these packages to have today's postmark.) And that she wouldn't do it. She said the other person might scan them but she wouldn't:mad: So I asked the other clerk and he said he wouldn't. Finally, I said, well, please just scan and I will call your super and if he tells me that's not policy I won't ask to have them scanned again. So, anyway, (sorry to be so long-winded) my ? is, what do other PO's do for those of you who use these labels? Do they scan or not? Thanks for any help.

After you hit submit, you have to click on Display label. That will open up the label in Acrobat Reader (must have it on your computer, or you can d/l it for free), and then you can print.

When they first started the on line DC, they did not scan. They decided that just printing it was enough. Then it changed (and the supervisor can find that in the rules) and now it gets scanned. They had too many people saying the items weren't showing up.

I will ask at the PO tomorrow for the rule number that says they need to scan it. In order to be scanned, your PO has to have the scanning equipment. They all don't. I shipped from Cape Cod a few weeks ago and they did not have the scanner, so they stamped the half of the DC label I keep with their PO name stamp.

Ok, when I hit display label, I get a message saying "There is a problem trying to use the image display module. Please use an external image viewer application to view the labels." I do have Acrobat, so I don't understand what's going wrong. I guess I'll have to try to figure it out on Mon.

Also, the clerk finally did scan the labels for me. If you find out that rule # for me, is there a place on the USPS site that I can go and print it off, so I don't have the problem again. I started to ask the clerk if it was "easier" for her to stand there and argue with me than to scan the labels:p, but I didn't. I might next time, though, LOL.

Thanks for all your help DMRick.

It sounds to me like you may need to update your acrobat. What version do you have? I'm using verson 5.

I asked my hubby to ask today when he ships out our packages..but if he forgets, I'll ask Monday.

I'm so worried. I listed a Pearl Harbor Director's Cut DVD on eBay. It is 4 discs and brand new!!

BUt I am worried because it only has 2 BIDS at $1.25 and ends in 2 days. I'm really worried that it wont sell.

I hate setting reserve prices or starting it too high in fear that someone wont buy it....I wish I had a friend or something who could bid real high on it so that I wouldn't have to sell it to someone for so cheap.

THere is no way in heck I am selling that DVD to someone for a few bucks....I did research and saw the other dvds and they seemed to get up to at least $14 or $15.

ARGH this is the one thing that drives me nuts about ebay - all this waiting!

Hopefully you'll have a bidding war at the end and sell it higher. That's the hardest thing, I think, deciding on how to price your initial bid price. You've got to have a high tolerance for risk, and be sure that you are willing to actually part with the item for your minimum bid amount, otherwise use the reserve option.

I can't tell if you mean that literally, but you might want to be careful with that kind of commentary... and I say this in the spirit of constructive feedback. I think that you've provided enough info here that I could go and find your auction, and avoid bidding on your listings if you are unwilling to honor your initial list price. No offense intended, here, just some friendly advice.:D

Good luck with your auction!

Hey, based on DMRick's praise of Turbo Lister, I just started using it today. I really like it - it was easy, and the price was right - free!

I did a stupid thing, though, so maybe others can avoid this mistake. After installing, I didn't launch it immediately. Then, the first time I used it, I closed the initial welcome screen that starts the new user set-up wizard. I poked around, then created a listing.

Good thing I only did one before trying the upload process, because I had to create my User set-up, and once I did that, I lost the first listing I had created. So, any of you out there who decide to give it a try, make sure you set up your user info first! :D

That would be shilling and would lead to the immediate suspension (for at least a month) if caught, to both you and your friend.
You should never start an auction for less than what you are willing to get for the item. I personally won't buy from someone who cancel's their auction because the bids weren't going high enough. I'd rather see (as much as I don't care for them in most instances..although if you have a really expensive item, you might need to use one just to get people to look) a reserve. Most of all, I like to see thing's started at what the seller is willing to take.

If the item usually sells for a lot more, I'm sure you'll have more bidding in the next two days. If not, you can consider it a learning auction : )

Ok I sure won't do that shilling! I didn't know your account can get closed.

It's just hard sometimes. I mean I get kind of ticked when I see things listed at ridiculous starting prices - a lot of times I could just go to the store and find a better deal! And I feel bad setting a reserve price for something like a DVD...

Then again I've got 2 days to go, and I'm the kind of person that gets real anxious...and checks the auctions 5 times a day! LOL!

I have made quite a bit from eBay though in the past 5 years and always try and research other listings before I list!!

BTW - does anyone else scour the house trying to find thigns to sell??? I do it all the time....hehe

Not my praise LOL..I use Vendio (formally Auciton watch).

Now that you mention it, I think it was erinch... oh well, you've certainly given plenty of great advice!

You bet! I even have something that I can't identify, but it looks like an antique... I think it's a double candle snuffer, but DH thinks it's a handle that broke off of something else. It is brass with eagles on it, and it's probably trash! I spent about an hour looking at all the candle snuffer listings on ebay, and couldn't find anything like it. Are there any antique experts out there who'd like to see a picture? LOL ;)

Not here..I sold a toaster for what I thought was a rug beater..after she bought it, the bidder told me how much it was worth..dang!

But, if youpost a picture on the eBay community board at Vendio, someone will be sure to give you the items history. You do have to register to post..but it's a dandy board.

Doris, thanks for the link... that looks like a good place for me to lurk, but I couldn't see any way to register for the discussion boards there without actually signing up for the Vendio service. It looks interesting, but I don't think I'm ready for that quite yet.

I did, however, find a thread going in the antiques forum on the ebay boards, the "What is it?" thread:
http://forums.ebay.com/db2/thread.jsp?forum=13&thread=8105&modifed=20030614125636
That looks promising, so I'll post it there. We'll see!

without actually signing up for the Vendio service.

They got rid of a lot of troll's by making everyone sign up for a service. But you can sign up for the per auction service, and never use it..if you never use it, there is no cost, because it's not a monthly fee. But lurking is free! Of course you can't show your item if you can't post : (

My buyer did not pay the s&h fee in there paypal payment. I've sent an e-mail requesting it. Also, they are requesting I mail it to another address. Is this o.k.? After the incident I had on Friday with a paypal customer, I'm kind of leary now.:(

I would refund their paypal by goign to their payment, details, and the refund button is way down on the bottom (put in the space, incorrect amount shipping was excluded), and send a request money bill to them. I sometimes send to a different addy, when we have made arrangements in advance. But not if we didn't...so once they repay you, then write and tell them you are sorry, but to be under Paypal's protection, you need to ship to the Paypal addy.

O.K., I refunded the money and then I went to the request money form and filled it out, but when it asked for seller ID, I just put my name. I submitted it but it never confirmed if the transaction went through. I know I must really sound ignorant here, but where do I find my seller ID? Is it my name, my e-mail address or what? Boy, I don't know what I'd do with out ya'll. Thanks for answering all these stupid questions.

I know I must really sound ignorant here, but where do I find my seller ID?

You don't sound ignorant at all. It's not something you had to know up til now. Your seller ID is your eBay ID. Not your password..they'll never ask for your eBay password, but the seller ID. Putting in your name is fine (see how wasy it would be to put in another personls name? That's how the crooks get away with it). You can got to Paypal.com and look at your account, and you will see this request listed as pending, with a place to remind and cancel next to it.

Well I'm back again!!

Yesterday my son-in-law and I spent ALL day cleaning out the garage and YES - I found some "goodies" that should sell quite nicely on eBay!!

I have a couple of questions though..

Found some old dishes that are selling quite well.. How would I pack them if I sold them? What is the BEST possible way to avoid breakage?

Also - found a whole bunch of Star Wars posters.. Where do I get tubes to ship them in?

Last but not least, how do you take something to the PO to have it weighed accurately - and can it be done BEFORE you're actually ready to ship the item out?

"Oh my...lions and tigers and DOLLAR SIGNS !!!!!!!!!!!!"
