Hey DMRick - I'm curious.. Why would someone do that - "pretend" they were the winner????

THEY ARE NOT THE SAME PERSON!!! Help, what do I do now? I am so new at this and really don't won't to leave a bad impression. Below is the e-mail that I received from the winning bidder. I e-mailed her back offering to send the money order back. I really have no idea how to handle this situation.

"Well, that sure is strange. I was the one that outbid and someone else used my name and received the items. I am not signed up on Paypal yet. I was just now deciding if that would be good for me to do. So many people have told me that it was safe and so much easier than having to go buy money orders. Now to me.. I may need to reconsider. I just can't see how someone used my ID through Paypal. I do not even know how to handle this situation. I understand that you only have one set of the items. I was counting on all of them for my shop. Let me know what you think. "

Since I just had that happen..I can answer that. Either they thought they were the winner (looked before the auction ended..and I don't buy that), or they decided they would pay quick and get you to send it. They don't "take" another persons ID..they just list it on the form (which is how I KNOW they knew what they were doing) when they fill out the payment form on Paypal. After all, you can put whatever you want in that space. The secret is to match up the email addy. Not where they might write it in, but what Paypal show's as official. If it doesn't match, it's prob not really the winner. Paypal can't (or won't?) do anything about it, because you accepted it. The responsibility is yours to check the email address. They told me that the person did nothing wrong..just paid for something, and once I accepted it, I owed them the item.
I was suspicious because the person overpaid me, and didn't respond to my offer of offering to refund, and he could repay me. He knew he'd be caught. I had already mailed out the item (Disney pin) but luckily I had another for the real winner. I reported it to eBay and they never responded.

Help, what do I do now?

You can email and ask the person to return them..but I doubt that will happen. You'll have to tell the person that this was really out of your control, the other person lied on the form, and you will file with eBay and put that it was mutually agreed to end the sale so it won't be on anyones record. There is nothing else you can do. Report the person to ebay via here:

http://pages.ebay.com/help/community/investigates.html#contact

and move on. Hopefully the real bidder wil be understanding. I"m sorry this happened to you.

Feedback help needed. I won an item on (and paid for it) June 5. I emailed the winner today and asked him if it had been mailed out yet. He said "not yet. I haven't had a chance to go to the post office yet. I will send it out tomorrow." Is a week to ship something a long time? What kind of feedback should I leave?

Also, I had several auctions end 4 days ago. Two winners still haven't responded. I sent the reminder invoice and still haven't heard anything from them. How long should I wait before I re-list the items????

BTW, I've netted almost $258 in 3 weeks. This is fun. But I have a problem. I keep spending it!!!!!

Oh, one more thing. I got a bunch of vinly albums from my grandparents to sell. Most of them aren't worth anything. But there is this one that I'm not sure what to do with. There is nothign like it on ebay which means its worth nothing or its very rare and no one is selling it. Where can I find information on a "political" album?

Is a week to ship something a long time? What kind of feedback should I leave?

No. It would be for me, since I ship within 2 business days..but by eBay standards that's fine. I forget what Paypal says..but it may be that it needs to ship by the 10th day...although if you paid for Priority, it should ship sooner IMO.

I find that people delete the eBay invoices..think it's just more junk mail form eBay..so you may want to foolow up with your own note.

I think lots of sellers only ship on certain days - Tuesdays and Fridays seem to be quite popular.. I don't know if it's because of when their auctions end, if the post office is way out of their way, or possibly they work all week (full-time) and there are only certain days that they can get to the PO before it closes..

I'm lucky in that the PO is right on my way to work (I work Tues,Wed, & Thurs) and because of my hours, I can pop in there first thing in the morning on the way to work.. I'd be in BIG trouble otherwise (especially if I worked full-time) because I don't get out of work till 5 p.m. and the PO is closed. That would leave only Saturday mornings - from 9 till noon!

Even if it means going to the PO on Mondays and Fridays (the days I don't work), I try to get things mailed out as soon as they're paid for (as in the next day) - with the exception of items that close on Friday nights.. I will NOT go to the PO on Saturday because I'm either up to the lake or the PO is a ZOO!!

Of course sometimes people run into legitimate problems (my van was out of commission for a week and I had NO way to get to the PO or even work for that matter - my DD was in Maine) and then the very next week we had a death in the family that created situations that took up much of my time I would use for eBay..

Personally I would email again tomorrow to see if he did in fact ship the item.. If not, I would ask for a firm shipping date and hope that he adheres to it.. Not sure what the rules are on eBay about length of time to ship, but I'm NEVER in a hurry to file complaints about buyers OR sellers because life doesn't always go the way we hope it will.. Stuff happens and I try to be patient until the point where it's getting ridiculous..

That's just me though! Others may have different thoughts..

1) I used Turbolister last night to upload 15 auctions and it took FORVER!! It took at least 45 minutes. Does anyone know if this is normal? I waited until 10:30pm so my auctions would end at a decent time, but I never expected it to take so long to upload. Next time I will know better...

and

2) Do any of the tag fairies hang out here on the eBay thread?

Thanks!!:D

Was most of this time taken up by downloading the updates? What I do to avoid that so that I can list at a decent time is put one auction in my ready to upload folder and then calculate the fees on that one a few hrs. before I want to upload. Then you have your download out of the way and it only takes a few minutes when you get all your auctions on your upload page.

Okay, there is definitely more to Turbolister than I first realized. I had 13 auctions ready to go and I clicked "upload all" to eBay. Are you supposed to calculate fees first?

Are you supposed to calculate fees first?

Not unless you want to. I just do that with one auction to avoid uploading when I connect the 1st time. Since they is usually a download you have to do and you don't how long it going take, I just do that, so that when I want to upload I can do it at exactly the time I want. (And I don't want one auction to end a few hrs. ahead of the others.) HTH

Okay, I just reread your first response. I was confused when you mentioned the download, but now I see you meant for the updates. I did do that first (download the updates) and yes, it took awhile, but I wasn't counting that in my 45 minutes. The 13 listing were in the Waiting to Upload part and I just clicked upload all. It would literally say uploading 2 of 13 for over 5 minutes. I finally hit cancel and tried again, but it still took a long time. Based on my rereading of your post, it sounds like this should not take so long. We have a cable modem, so that's not a problem. Maybe a lot of people were listing because of the half price listing fee sale.....

So, you don't have any connections with those mysterious tag fairies?? ;)

I've had that happen a few times where it wouldn't upload them quickly (after the update). Sorry my posts are confusing. One time when it wouldn't upload, I just waited till the next week. It probably was because of the listing sale. I uploaded 6 last night, though, and it didn't take me long, and I don't have a cable modem!! I will next week, though, can't wait:p

And no, no connection with tag faries here. I hear though most hang on the Community Board though and the Budget Board is where I spend 98% of my DIS board time:) BUT, if there are any tag faries hanging on this thread, I would love to be bestowed.:p

I am SOOOOOOOO excited!!!!

--------------

I had the dumpster delivered today so I could start going through the garage and in barely scratching the surface I have found SOOOOOO many things I can sell on eBay!!!!!

It's hard to get to things though because it's raining here so I can't drag everything out in the driveway.. Darn!!!

If you guys could see this garage - a 2-car and you couldn't fit a toothpick in it!!

I'm going to make some serious MONEY so I can.......................

GO TO DISNEY !!!!!!!!!

---------------------------

Yaaaaaaaaaaaaay eBay!!!!!!!

Wow, what an accomplishment! I've just finished reading through all 60+ pages of this thread - took me over a week, because I had to get started listing again!

Thanks to all of you who have provided hints, tools and great advice! I had previously sold a few Disney pins, and now I'm moving on to old VHS movies and other household items. I have a cellar full of stuff my in-laws have been storing for 1 year and a half, and have listed a few things that haven't sold in a yard sale recently. No bids yet, but we'll see how things go when the listings start ending Sunday.

C.Ann, you are an incredible motivator! You are clearly capable of great things, and have been quite an inspiration!

DMRick, your practical advice and voice of experience has been wonderful.

I really enjoyed reading shovelhd's contributions... hopefully s/he is at WDW and will be back soon.

And all others too numerous to mention who have contributed as well, thanks to you, too.

Sheesh - I just read through this and I sound like I'm accepting an Academy Award - LOL :D

Seriously, I've wanted to chime in so many times, but promised myself I wouldn't reply until I had the full scoop. So now I'm here, and I'll let you all know how my listings go!

Thanks again, all of you. What a great crowd!

Why thank you!! I don't know if I'm "capable of great things" but I know I'm capable of getting to Disney World on the money I'm getting from eBay.. And please don't misunderstand.. I don't have a lot of high ticket items that I'm selling (at least not YET anyhow - LOL) so the money comes in little drips and drabs, but I get SOOOOOO excited every time I can add a little more to my Disney envelopes! I'm sure that some folks wouldn't be too happy if they ended up only clearing two bucks or so on some silly little thing, but for me it means I'm two dollars closer to getting to Disney and seeings how this is the ONLY way I have of coming up with the money, I'll take anything I can get!! The two bucks here and three bucks there are REALLY starting to add up for me and I already have enough in the envelopes to pay for several things..

I do my best to keep everyone motivated here because some weeks the sales just aren't as good as others, but I truly believe that perseverance will get me to Disney and quite frankly, I'm not going to settle for anything less!!!!!!!! ;)

Yaaaaaaay eBay!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That's the kind of focus that will surely spell success!!! Between the $2 here and $2 there, soon enough there is a pile of money!

That reminds me of one of my Dad's favorite sayings.. He always used to tell me, "If you don't save dimes , you'll never have dollars ..."

I have QUITE a pile of "dollars" here - LOL!!!!!!:)

hmmmmm..... maybe I should spend more time on the Community Board... :p

Wow, this has been a week of FIRSTS!

My first broken delivery

My first INTERNATIONAL customer

My first Second Chance Offer

and my FIRST NON PAYING BIDDER!!

This guy bought something from me on June 1st, I sent him an invoice the same day, then a reminder June 6th. I have never heard back from him, not once. He had ZERO feedback so I was suspicious but I couldn't be too judgmental because that was ME three weeks ago.

Well, I had eBay send the EMAIL and let's see what happens....

On the other hand...

I read that estate sales are the bread and butter for unique things to sell on eBay. I went to one today and got my FIRST good buy!

I found an antique clock that turned out to be authentic! And I bought it for $3! Hope it sells well!
