Not too bad for a few "sheets of paper" - huh? Best part is I still have many, many more I can list..

If you have the same items..don't forget Second chance offering. You don't pay listing fees..so it's often worth it to offer to the next high bidder!
Congrats..if there was a prize for being a packrat, I'd surely present you with it LOL!! Great, the way you are turning trash into treasure. Your items will prob end up being part of some display of the places, or as wall decorations for the places in the area.

Yep! Me.. And the teller at the bank wants to know if she could call me at home so I could help her get started doing eBay.. LOL! Lots of people are "interested", but just don't know how to get started.. It DOES seem rather intimidating when you first start reading all the tutorials and such....

Thanks, DMRick! That's what I figured, but I appreciate you verifying it for me. Thanks also for providing the eBay policy info. I had a hard time finding it amidst all the verbage on their site.

Now that that's clarified, in your expert opinion do you think it would be more advantageous for me to put up my item while the other seller's auction is still active, or to wait until his/her auction has ended? Any suggestions from anyone would be greatly appreciated! :)

Last night I sold 5 brochures (3 individual auctions and one that was for 2 brochures) for a whopping total of $24.75 !!!!!

Wow, C.Ann!

I know you probably don't want to say what they were, but were they older? We've never traveled much, and I would only have a few things from the past couple of years.

Yep..I am wondering too since I have a TON of travel brochures. I am a travel agent:) I know people collect the Disney ones but any others?

Not a very good answer..but the feelings from some, from other boards is..wait until after, so they bidding will keep going up, and not be divided between you both...and the feelings from others is to put yours up, while there is interest and as the bid goes too high, the bidders start looking around.

Not much help, eh?

Shelle, Surely this has to be a joke! Would someone really pay $14,999 for that? Maybe I'm missing something???

I looked at the ghost in a pickle jar, which I thought was weird until I searched on completed items and found some much weirder stuff (Before my computer mysteriously shut down on me! )

OKAY - serious question: A few people mentioned that they don't bid on items that say final sale/no refunds, so I am assuming that your auctions DON'T say that.

I am still tweaking my terms, and I changed it to "All sales final unless I have grossly misrepresented the item" - is that similar to what you guys do?

My DH has been SO helpful (for real) in taking pics of all of my items, but he had to go out last night and I wasn't able to list yet. We have three kids and I am determined that this is going to be FUN FOR ME, so I don't want to stress over not listing yet. I'm going to get everything set up for Sunday night and list all 36 items then. Would something like Turbo Lister work better for me? Is there a fee for that? Thanks!

(I see by the times on these postings that there are some night owls out there!:D )

All sales final unless I have grossly misrepresented the item

I don't say anything..but I would take care of my customer, if there ever was a problem. I don't want to put it in their heads, there might be something wrong.

As far as the ghost in a jar..that price is cheap..one closed for much more the other day...all "pretend" name bidders are still listed as bidders. The "real " bidders all cancel their bids. The person's who ended much higher this week, will ahve the final fee put on their credit card, until eBay reverses it, when they file for final fees.

DMRick--two questions for you

First off, I don't get your explanation about the ghost in the pickle jar thing. Could you explain the real/pretend biddre thing again and the deal with the final fee/reversal? More curious and confused than anything else. Is this some ebay insider joke?

Also, regarding the spam issue. I sold some business supplies awhile back from a direct sales business I was in and was contacted by somoene wanting to find out if I was interested in joining THEIR home business company. Is this illegal on ebay? Seemed to me like it shouldn't be, but I couldn't find a specific prohibition about it. Not sure if I would do anything anyway, but I was wondering because it bugged me.

Thanks for all the info you have shared with us novices!

Are you kidding?? My "ladies" actually look forward to seeing me! I NEVER used the Post office this much before even though half of my family works there, the other half works for the IRS... so this is new for me. Yesterday, one of the clerks told me that we (ebay people) are one of the reasons she has a JOB!

I guess that makes sense. I have seen so many auctions that say no refunds, all sales final, that I thought that I should also. In fact, seeing that so often I was AFRAID to leave it off! I hope that most people will be honest!:D

More curious and confused than anything else. Is this some ebay insider joke?

I don't know if it's an insider joke..but it is a joke. Some wierd auction will go up (during really slow times, some on line sites have contests for the strangest, or the best written (like barbie the shopper) auctions. It gets posted on Auction Watch, or yahoo eBay boards, )or now, here) we all go to look, the counter shows a really high amount of lookers, and some people who have signed up for eBay for the day, may bid. When it gets to be the last day, either the bidder or the seller will start to retract the bids. You can see the retracted bids at the end. It's just for amusement...although some wierd auctions (like the dryer lint..the lady did stuffed animals and was thrilled to get all that dryer lint for cheap. It was only a $1 for 20 pounds by the time everyone else retracted (LOL!) and it actually end up selling. In other words..no ghosts are really in that jar.

Also, regarding the spam issue. I sold some business supplies awhile back from a direct sales business I was in and was contacted by somoene wanting to find out if I was interested in joining THEIR home business company

It would be Spam. You could have reported them. eBay does allow you to set up (with permission from the bidders) a mailing list. Here is what they have to say about that:

"You may include a discrete link or other messaging within your standard transaction emails to encourage your buyers (or sellers) to join your mailing list."

Oh wow. I didn't know that about those wierd auctions. The link was posted on another board that I read and I thought it was funny. I did look at the bids and noticed some were retracted. Don't people have anything better to do with their time? Wierdos. :D

What happens if you retract a bid? I'm afraid I've gotten detoured from my plans to sell on ebay. The Barbie prices are way too low for me at this point. I can't sell them for less than I paid for them!

Unfortunately, I am now addicted and have alot of bids on items, and have won my 1st 2 auctions! It is sooo fun!!! :Pinkbounc :bounce: :Pinkbounc

What happens if you retract a bid?

eBay has this to say about retractions. If you
have enough, you could be suspended..however, most people that bid on "wierd" auctions, use a fake ID...or eBay seems to take it as the joke it's meant to be.

Bid Retractions

Before bidding on an item on eBay, be sure to read the item description and check the seller's feedback. If you have any questions about the listing, email the seller directly, before you bid. Remember: Every bid on eBay is binding (unless the item is listed in a category under the Non-Binding Bid Policy or the transaction is prohibited by law or by eBay's User Agreement).

Under exceptional circumstances, eBay allows you to retract a bid.

It's OK to retract a bid if...

You accidentally entered a wrong bid amount. For instance, you bid $99.50 instead of $9.95.
(If this occurs, re-enter the correct bid amount immediately).
The description of an item you have bid on has changed significantly.
You cannot reach the seller. This means that you have tried calling the seller and his or her phone number doesn't work, or you have tried emailing a message to the seller and it comes back undeliverable.
It's not OK to retract a bid if...

You change your mind about the item.
You decide you can't afford it.
You bid higher than you promised yourself you would.
When you retract a bid before the last 12 hours of a listing, you will eliminate all bids you have placed in that item. If you are correcting a bidding error, you will have to bid again. When you retract a bid within the last 12 hours of the listing, you will eliminate only the most recent bid you placed. Bids you placed prior to the last 12 hours will not be retracted. To retract a bid, use the Bid Retraction form.

Your total number of bid retractions in the past 6 months is displayed in your Feedback Profile. To learn more about the Feedback Forum, click here.

We thoroughly investigate bid retractions, and abuse of this feature may result in the suspension of your eBay account. Bids retracted within the last 24 hours of a listing may be viewed as Bid Shielding, which is a serious violation of our policy.

Special Retraction Rules

If you place a bid before the last 12 hours of the listing: You may retract that bid, but only for exceptional circumstances.

You will not be allowed to retract that bid during the last 12 hours of the listing.

If you place a bid during the last 12 hours of the listing: You will be allowed to retract the bid for exceptional circumstances, but only if you do so within one hour after placing the bid.

If you are not allowed to retract your bid during the last 12 hours of the listing, you may contact the seller to request that your bid be canceled. The seller will have the discretion whether to cancel your bid.

Note: You may retract a bid anytime if the seller significantly changes the item's description after you bid.

I'm back again!

Had to attend a funeral; go to the doctors; go to the drug store; go to the bank; and get groceries.. Sheesh - I'm wiped out now!

For all you curiosty seekers (re the brochures) if you do some research on whatever ones you have (and be sure to check the completed items as well) you will be able to determine if you have anything that will sell.. Age doesn't seem to have as much to do with the items popularity as does the fact that the place has changed somehow - is no longer in business - or is some kind of favorite vacation spot.. Also, special events brochures can also do well..

And that's all I'm gonna say about that! LOL

---------------------------------

Hope I can catch my second wind to do some listing later.. My son-in-law is throwing a guilt trip on me again - he wants me to go up to our place at the lake this weekend but I can't list from there and I would much rather stay home and make MONEY - LOL.. Maybe I'll go up sometime tomorrow and stay over for one night..

Doesn't he understand??? I am a woman on a mission..

Mission Disney World !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yaaay eBay!!!

Thanks, DMRick.. Can you explain how to do the second chance offering? And also, the one that sold for the highest amount - I have quite a few - so I assume I would offer one to the highest bidder (via second chance offering) - and then relist the others one at a time and see where the bids go?

And yes - I most certainly AM the "Queen of the Pack Rats" and I worked darn hard to get that title!! LOL Right now I'm sitting here looking at a few things that people in their right minds (which definitely leaves ME out) would never have hung unto but people are BUYING them on eBay!! Amazing!!

At the rate I'm going with this little stuff, it's going to take me a 100 years before I get to any of the bigger stuff! Guess that's what I get for saving EVERYTHING - huh?;)
